Trump is guided by God
August1991 replied to Gaétan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Disagree. Donald Trump is Mel Lastman. Ask any Anglo-Canadian from Toronto. -
Federal Liberals Turner 1988 -Protect Canada
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
My grandfather was a Newfoundlander, on the Labrador coast. Mulroney apparently said, "Fish where there's fish." My recollection of my grandfather was: "What does this have to do with the price of cod?" -
Federal Liberals Turner 1988 -Protect Canada
August1991 posted a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In the 1988 federal election, the federal Liberals (left anglos) opposed any free trade with Americans. "The Americans will steal our water." In this 2025 federal election, the Anglo federal Liberals oppose Trump: "Americans are bullies." -
New CPC Strategy Idea: Stop Pandering to Quebec
August1991 replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I strongly disagree. I am a Brian Mulroney Conservative. I think free trade is good. We now have a federal VAT. And I think that we Canadians can get along - even if we're not Liberal. -
Uh, missed the context. ==== Make no mistake: Radio-Canada is not CBC.

Rethink: What does Trump want?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Many years ago, I had a friend who worked in a restaurant in Toronto parking cars. Valet service. He once parked Mel Lastman's car. So, I asked? Answer: "It was a Rolls." ==== I have struggled to understand Donald Trump. Mel Lastman is my best answer. -
Rethink: What does Trump want?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I tend to agree. -
If China sends us low cost cars (free Teslas, like the Sun sends us free energy), how is that bad for us?

Every small business person needs an accountant. Someone to do the books - keep numbers straight. And every small business person needs a lawyer. An advisor for legal issues. Nowadays, every small business person also needs a tech guy. Trump got Elon Musk. ===== Donald Trump is a small business person. For people who know Toronto, Donald Trump is Mel Lastman.

Rethink: What does Trump want?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Trump is not stupid. He wants a better world for Americans. What's his game? -
For nine years, Canada has been on the wrong track.
August1991 replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You mix apples and oranges. 1. Home? Rents? Some people do not want neighbours. NIMBY. (I was recently in Portland Oregon. They are like Westmount - until they're Rhodesian.) 2. Canada has lotsa space. Let me be clear: Canada has a lot of square meters. 3. Location. (In Canada, it is very cold in January and February.) -
Liberal Party Takes Lead in Polls
August1991 replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
In a country such as Canada, Carney is not a good candidate = he's no Trudeau - young or old. But he may get teh federal Liberals enough seats to form a government. -
Mark Carney = Michael Ignatief - Humility
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hey kids, This forum is in Canada. Not Chinese TikTok. -
September 2001, Americans refer to 9/11. Unlike Churchill who stayed in London during the blitz of 1940, Bush Jnr flew away from Washington Florida in his Air Force One 747. ==== America's elite was more or less good until Sept 11, 2001.

Nationalist, The sun (on clear days) sends us light/energy for free. Free! No cost! Cheap labour! Gut our workforce? Should we block sunlight so that people in Ohio still have jobs?

Ukraine? August 1914: A foolish war in the balkans
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
The collapse of August 1914 was avoidable. JFK said this. Trump said this. -
Mark Carney = Michael Ignatief - Humility
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
People vote weirdly - if at all. Why bother? I suspect that PP's wife will garner more votes than Carney's wife. Have the federal Liberals tested the wives? -
Poilievre to Win: Wrap yourself in the flag
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
If Poilievre wants to be PM, in every venue, every image, he must have a huge red maple leaf behind. Trudeau Snr style. -
Ukraine? August 1914: A foolish war in the balkans
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
In 1910 or so, Europe was at the end of a structure of peace -created in 1815. In 2020s, we in the world need a new structure of peace -1815 style. === IMHO, our world today is very similar to the 1910s. I reckon that we can avoid the disaster of August 1914. -
Liberal Party Takes Lead in Polls
August1991 replied to TreeBeard's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
And in 1993. they favoured the Tories. And in 2016. the polls favoured Clinton. ===== There are bigger issues now: 1. No one knows who Mark Carney is. (In French Canada, this matters more than elsewhere.) 2. To the extent anyone knows Carney, he's an international banker. (For young male voters, that's a loser.) -
Years ago, the economist Robert Lucas wondered about this very question and he tried to put it into mathematical form. He imagined an archipelago. You know the number on your island - but not the other islands. Lucas died a few years ago. In its obituary, The Economist described Lucas' idea as an amusement park where prices change.

Bully. I have seen this word now used to describe Trump. Putin, Xi, Hitler. My daughter, when she was 12, had a different word.

Mark Carney = Michael Ignatief - Humility
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Agreed. Federal Canada is a difficult but civilsed country. Ontario seems to dominate. Indeed Ontario is the bully in Canada - but unlike Trump, the anglo-saxons in Ontario don't understand irony.
