Both French (Wednesday 16 April) and English (Thursday 17 April) debates will occur in the new Radio-Canada atrium. I was curious about the place. The previous Radio-Canada building was built in 1973 - under Trudeau Snr, a determined federalist - but recently demolished because the building had asbestos.

Trump opposes Free Stuff - Rand Paul

Rand Paul is an ideologue. Your founders made it difficult for him to be President. -
How effective was the Carbon tax...

Apparently, the planet Venus suffered from "climate change". Too much CO2. Kennedy? Check out: -
Such are lottery stories. ==== You can't time the market. It's a fool's errand.

Pierre Berton was wrong about the railway, railroad, the so-called National Dream. 1. The significant difference between Canada and the US is our monetary history. 2. In Fall 2008, I was astonished when Bernanke stood beside Bush Jnr. ==== In Canada, like Keynes, we have always kept money separate from government.

CdnFox, We should be sending probes to Venus to figure out what happened. No human will ever live on Mars. -

Statesmen? Your founders designed a system that makes it very hard for a psychopath to take power. I reckon that Lincoln, weird, was no psychopath. Trudeau Snr similar. -
Why/how did the Great War of 1914 start?

Rapid? It takes time for politicians to change. In 1989/1991, there was a large change in the balance of power. -
Trump is dividing us -We Canadians get along
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
At the time, Turner opposed free trade with Americans - he wanted barriers as Trump proposes now. Irony. ===== At issue however is "nationalism". Mulroney was correct. He is a Canadian. -

Just as Trump divided Americans to get votes, the federal Liberals are doing exactly the same to divide us and get votes. Vote Liberal to protect us against the nasty Americans! -
How effective was the Carbon tax...

Disagree. Strongly. The theory of climate warming (now, climate change) is based on the greenhouse effect. In this theory, our problem is not carbon. It is excess "carbon dioxide". cougar, do you know the difference between carbon and CO2? -

Compared to the US Civil War, the Riel Rebellion was nothing. The Plains of Abraham was a minor, irrelevant battle in a much larger war between Prussia and Austria. To understand, Margaret Thatcher wisely said that England has always sided with the weaker power in Europe. In the 1700s, it was Prussia. Prussia defeated Austria. England got Canada. -
Like Carney, I'm a boomer. I've traveled lived abroad. Canada is good! Hey kids, pick your parents better.

BTW, we Canadians often vote across religious/language lines. The first premier of Ontario was a Roman Catholic: In the 1890s, our first federal Roman Catholic Prime Minister was a Conservative: John Thompson Our first federal francophone PM was Wilfrid Laurier. People across Canada voted for him in 1896. He was Catholic. He is on our five dollar bill. -

We Canadians have never fought a violent civil war between ourselves. (In 1837 there were minor fights in Ontario, more serious in Lower Canada - but nothing like the Americans 1861. Riel?) Europe? Europeans? ==== We Canadians have a civilised society: a federal state with two federal official languages, and no official cultural. Imagine. -
Secret? There is no secret war. ====== Some Americans (eg. Victoria Nuland, Jake Sullivan) wanted to achieve regime-change in Russia. Like Bush Jnr and Saddam Hussein, they wanted to change a regime. They wanted to oust Putin. Make no mistake. Why? Power, control. Nuland/Sullivan wanted to change the world. Make people more respectful of gays. This has always surprised me.

Many EnglishCanadians -women in particular- are voting anti-Trump, anti-American. The federal Liberals are using this nationalistic card - "the federal Liberals are Canada". Carney may win with it. With Singh, the NDP cannot play the nationalist card. === The Bloc? I fear this kind of politics. -

Years ago, early 1980s, I found myself in the midst of a Sri Lankan civil war. I was alone. AG, you had guys beside you. ====== As a young boy (1970s?), I once spoke to a man who had fought in the Great War. I still remember his answer: "We were together. I had him beside me. He was with me. We went together."

Mulroney vs Harper, Trudeau Jnr, Chretien: Legacy

IMHO, Justin Trudeau was like his mom, crazy. Many voters chose him for the name, and women voters thought he was cute. ====== Carney is another story. -
How effective was the Carbon tax...
August1991 replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Disagree. If you tax something, people will stop doing it. If the price is higher, people will do less. === How did the federal Liberals sell this incentive idea? (Note where Steve Guilbault is now.) -
Years ago, I had time in Germany. Curious, I started looking at the battlefields of the Seven Years War - significant to Canada. I soon discovered that it was a war between Prussia and Austria. I could understand the battlefields in Saxony and now in the Czech republic. Austerlitz. This battlefield was immense. Napoleon (like Hitler, Trump, Putin) wanted to show they are not a loser. Borodino. I have been to Borodino. In 1912, the Russians put stones to indicate places. Plaines of Abraham. Laurier put stones. I can walk. It takes a car/hours to go between the stones of Borodino. ===== Did you know that the Seven Years War had two treaties? The Treaty of Hubertusberg: far more important at the time. The Treaty of Fontainebleau, signed later.
