Party Leader: Singh, Trudeau Jnr, Carney etc
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I strongly disagree. 1. Without civil war, our federal State has existed for far more than four score years. 2. We have two federal official languages. We get along. 3. In all means, we are no longer a monarchy. -

PP? Singh. I fear that he is NDP leader because of a tribal vote. Capture of a party. The federal Liberals recently excluded a potential leader for the same reason. -
The 1910s? Mussolini, Putin, Mao, Hitler? - not the 1930s
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Given technology, like people in the 1910s, we in the 2020s have a wonderful world. We can travel and buy from abroad. We live in peace. ==== And then the foolish elite created a War, supposed short, and from 1914 to 1945 we ordinary people suffered. I fear that we face the 1910s. -

Humans Living on Mars vs Robots on Venus
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Hot? No human will ever sustainably live - procreate - on Mars. We humans have evolved to live in the environment of our planet, Earth. ===== But we can learn alot about our planet from other planets/moons. I reckon that sending probes to Venus will tell us more about Earth than wasting engineers' time sending probes to Mars. -

Henry Kissinger, an ambitious Jew, knew more than I ever did. As Kissinger wanted, let's create a structure of peace. -

I very strongly disagree. === In these 2020s, we are involved in real politicis. Let's get along. -
Federal German Elections - Feb 2025
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Let's see what happens The federal parties will create a cabinet of nonsense to avoid the AfD: elephant in the room. === And everyone in the West will explain nonsense for the AfD in East Germany. -
Brunch? There's your tell. The true tell of a person is how they eat breakfast.

Gawd knows. ==== By record, we Canadians have a long history of voting for politicians not in our tribe. We get along. -

Cold War won? Change other countries too?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
After 1815, ordinary people in the European world lived peacefully. For one hundred years, a century, ordinary people had peace - more or less. Then in 1914, when all the politicians said that we were defending "whatever", fighting for "whatever", this peace collapsed. And ordinary people suffered for the next 30 years. -
2% Defense GDP by 2030
August1991 replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Canada / United States Relations
I know and understand all that. Sweden and Finland today are not as before - in the 1940s, let alone the 1980s. In 2021. Biden believed that he could change the regime in Russia. He wanted to depose Putin. -

Maybe. I reckon Biden, Sullivan gave alot of money to the Finns and Swedes to join NATO. ==== In 2021, Jake Sullivan thought that he could achieve regime-change. -

Define "rich woman". and define "poor country". It was Sri Lanka in the 1980s. Her English was far better than mine. -
I simply don't know. You ask good questions.

Pierre Poilievre? ===== I have argued on this forum that what makes Canada civilised is that we Canadians have a tendency to cross party lines. Even when a Catholic is on the ballot, Catholics vote for a Protestant. Even when an Anglophone is on the ballot, they vote for a Francophone. -
1. Quebec has one. Our federal constitution allows this. 2. It should be transferable. That is, if someone works in Alta and then retires in Nfld - or vice-versa, the calculations should be the same. 2a. The rules of contribution/payment should be the same across provinces. 3. Quebec has a Caisse bureaucracy that decides how to use these savings. Why not Albertan bureaucrats? 4. Musk's point: I reckon that there are huge errors in the US Federal Social Security scheme. 4a. Quebec bureaucrats also administer payments in the RRQ. 4b. PEI? Centuries ago, as a graduate student, I recall a conversation with a student from Summerside, or Charlottetown - is that how you spell it? Anyway, she was from PEI. We were discussing student loan problems. To correct my problem, I was discussing what to do. I'll never forget her answer: "When I have a problem, I phone Mabel." ==== In PEI, at the time, there was a single person who knew every graduate student.
