  1. As a foreigner, I'm struggling to see the difference between McGovern and Trump. What's the difference?
  2. Disagree. Strongly. ===== Rather, you Americans are now voting the way that we Canadians submit our census forms.
  3. Harris and the Democrats will never do such things. Trump is the kind of guy who thinks outside the box. ====== The US has government debt (federal/state/local) over 150% of GDP and rising. US governments are borrowing more than GDP is rising. In the US, the government debt ratio to GDP is rising. This is not sustainable. US governments are a Ponzi scheme. === US governments (federal, state) must cut spending or raise taxes.
  4. Rebound, Pelosi? Clueless. You have no idea how parliamentary democracy works.
  5. https://www.ian-leslie.com/p/why-margaret-thatcher-didnt-jump Pierre Trudeau was born in 1919. Margaret Thatcher in 1925. ===== Kamala Harris was born in 1964 - after the wars.
  6. I read books as if the writer was speaking to me. I listen to Hugo, Balzac, Dickens - as if they were on Audible mp3. ===== I have never listened to/read Macchiaveli this way.
  7. Modern English is surely easier to understand than PHP. For example, what is the difference between: if x === y and if x == y and I am confused with x != y
  8. I had a chat with a colleague. We reckoned that: -LLM was based/trained on Wikipedia -Copilot was based/trained on stackoverflow Let's see.
  9. It is not simple to use words in a language. Across languages? I think John Lennon should have won the Nobel Prize; not Dylan.
  10. The Prince is one of the few older texts that made sense to me. It is not satire. I have tried Plato and Aristotle but I saw obvious flaws. My favourite is Adam Smith. And Hume. Never understood Wordsworth. Or that guy who ran off to Corfu. ===== Balzac is better than Dickens. Tolstoi is good. But the best of all is Hugo. Characters and story-telling at their prime, weekly publications to literate readers. Netflix before daytime TV.
  11. The population is about 50/50 so we have different washrooms for each group. One of the main points in my OP is that architects seem to interpret this to mean that the square footage of each group (M/F) should be the same - for equality. I feel that this is a wrong idea of equality. A poster above noted Hongkong and scarcity of space. As it happens, I have noted that private hotels/stores usually have larger/better spaces for women's washrooms. I recall a Ann Taylor's washroom at a mall in Delaware. As to trans washrooms? Strongly disagree. In Canada, we have two federal official languages. We have no federal official cultural. The federal state has no business in the washrooms of the nation.
  12. In 1975, many men opposed Thatcher as Conservative leader. In 1979, they voted for her and then re-elected her. Men voted for Golda Meir. They voted for Indira Gandhi.is IMHO, these claims of a glass ceiling in politics are false. === Politics is a contact sport: each player has their own style, successful or not. Harris is no Thatcher. And Trump is no Carter.
  13. Disagree about good and evil. When you are praying, you are talking to yourself. Think about that. ===== As to abortion (killing pre-born), I have a different opinion/thought. Why do women bear most of the burden of child-birth? Aside from a 9 month pregnancy, there's also the first several months of child-care. By world standards, Quebec has a relatively generous maternity leave policy but it hardly corrects the imbalance between men and women in child bearing. === A woman surely has some control over her body. I agree with you that the unborn child should have a voice in this matter. But the father? Maybe he should bear some of the costs - on behalf of the kid.
  14. Trudeau Snr had his walk in the snow. In the late 1970s, Jack Horner had his walk across the floor. ===== We Canadians get along.
  15. Disagree. This guy Kissinger described our Canada. The European world after Napoleon - peace for a century.
  16. His father kept the federal caucus in line. Heck, he brought an Albertan onside ==== We Canadians get along.
  17. I disagree. Israel has no support. ===== But far more important, we in the West do not want war.
  18. I hadn't thought of that. Delay the making of the deal.
  19. I live in urban Montreal. By some accounts, a 3 1/2 costs about Cdn 1800 dollars monthly rental. The 1/2 is a full bathroom. The 3 is other rooms: bedroom, kitchen, living room. About 90 sq m. in total
  20. I figure that the federal Liberals will either a) fold and give the money b) prologue (dissolve, restart) ==== Trudeau Jnr wants more time, he thinks that he can win - like his father in 1978.
  21. Thinking back, far back. St-Laurent stayed too long. Diefenbacher stayed too long. Harper stayed - and clearly lost. Mulroney and Trudeau Snr walked away. ==== Harper was correct
  22. On the OAP issue, this government will fall. Maybe milk. We will have a Winter election
  23. Strongly disagree. This Middle East war has lasted for years, centuries. ==== We Canadians get along.
