  1. Strongly disagree. ====== Reagan defeated the Soviets in 1991.
  2. About 70 years, or so. Three generations or so - grandchildren know their grandparents. Do you know/remember any of your four grandparents?
  3. 1. In Canada, we have many restrictions on trade: milk, cheese, banks, airlines. Oil pipelines. This foreign guy is doing our fight. 2. In Canada, we have no politician who is able to confront our internal lobbies - and yet win enough votes/seats to win. 3. You Americans have a wonderful constitution that protects you against a dictator: -In Canada, we only have a Charter of Rights.
  4. Search "What's Up **** Cat" for Woody Allen's involvement, opinion. "Take the Money and Run", true talent on display. ==== Kubrick had a similar view of movies.
  5. Maybe. Woody Allen did original stuff after the 1970s.
  6. The Bible has two "books": The Old Testament (Jewish) and the New Testament (Christian). ==== Sustainable society? I think the lesson of the New Testament is more useful. "I will turn the other cheek until you don't." Tit-for-tat.
  7. Herbie, You must be a small-town lawyer or a smart accountant. I am neither.
  8. CdnFox, disagree. Some individuals/people/families don't save for the future. A successful/sustainable society saves for all.
  9. The CPP and Caisse force people to put aside their effort for the future. The Caisse is uh "wisely" doing this in Quebec with the REM. ==== Who should decide our future?
  10. We all contribute to the CPP. -Women live longer than men. -The CPP means we don't consume - what happens to this effort?
  11. Younger people know about minimum wage Middle people: key rates Older people: know all about OAP, Gains
  12. Stupidest forum title ever. Maybe I have responded before
  13. Exactly. Boomers? Old people have dogs/cats - because they can't deal with humans.
  14. In Canada, there is no "estate tax". But when a person dies, the entire estate is sold - including RRSP, home, cabin/cottage/chalet -and becomes an "income". It is taxed as income.
  15. Buddhists do not avoid this fundamental problem.
  16. Turn the other cheek is fundamental to Christians. It makes Christians different from Jews - and even Muslims. Tit for tat.
  17. McCartney first wrote "Yesterday" as "Scrambled Eggs" until Lennon changed the lyrics. And Brickman told Allen to remove the jokes on the script of Annie Hall.
  18. Compare: a) What's Up **** Cat? b) Take The Money & Run ====== He wrote both. He had the control of the second.
  19. True, in English-Canada, a big deal is not being American. But in French-Canada, it is best not to be Protestant. Yet, for centuries, we Canadians got along. We even inter-married - along religious lines.
  20. Fer gawdsakes, no. My Canadian grand-children are not going to die so Taiwan is different from China. If the Chinese want Taiwan, let them have it. If the Russians want Crimea, let them have it. ==== We defeated the Soviets, Communists, Maoists, Socialists. Let's get along.
  21. We English-Canadians view you Americans as French-Canadians view us. This understanding changed my view of life.
  22. Not new. Robert Redford was embarrassed to be American
  23. Disagree. For a brief period, 1984-2014, individuals were free. More precisely 1991-2002. Nowadays, this idea of a nomad coder is a fiction. ==== Agree. We Canadians enjoy the benefit of being American without any of the costs.
  24. One born in 1935, the other in 1942. Both, by luck, before a huge post war baby-boom. Both still alive. Young, both men had older, supportive women. Both young, quickly understood I reckon that they had a natural talent: -Allen could write jokes -Paul could create melodies By all accounts, both are hard working guys. By nature, they show up - every day. ==== I recently watched "What's Up **** Cat?" -What a disaster. Imagine if McCartney had never met Lennon. Or George Martin.
