PQ First Mandate -Referendum
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The PQ may then do best of two - a run-off. -Culture sovereignty would win ===== How would Alberta think about this? -
This will be the question -three choices: -Status quo (no change) -Culture sovereignty -Complete independence ==== This vote will show the true colour of people.

How to make Canada Great Again

We Canadians have all the benefits of America without any of the responsibilities. -
How to make Canada Great Again
August1991 replied to paxamericana's topic in Canada / United States Relations
In 1910, people in Lvov spoke several languages. People nowadays in Lvov only speak one language. Still today, people in Montreal speak two different languages. -
In Canada, you also need someone (family, good friend) who works in the provincial health system. 1. The rules are complicated. You need someone to explain them so you know what to do. 2. Within the system, you need someone to argue on your behalf.

Advice? Have kids. Herbie, do you have kids - uh, a beneficiary?
-
You explain the problem.

How to make Canada Great Again
August1991 replied to paxamericana's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Herbie, I agree. Unlike Americans, we Canadians have never had a civil war. And unlike Europeans, we Canadians still have a city where people speak a different language - yet live together. -
Huh? The federal NDP is close to zero. And we all must wait for the next Quebec election, and the Albertan referendum. ===== Ontario is not Canada.
-
..... Trump knew exactly what he was doing. He wanted Carney as Canada's leader.
-
I know the story, the history. ====== As I watched/listened to this weird transformation of history, I thought about a future musical in 2080 or so. Nixon! Born poor in California, meets Mao, Dean as a nemesis, and a singing Haldeman!
-
From the perspective of most Albertans and Quebecers, Doug Ford is a typical guy from Ontario, an Eastern American. Most Quebecers view English-Canadians as how you view Americans. As I say, Ontario is not Canada. ===== MG, most foreigners view us as American. And as I say, we Canadians have all the benefits of being American without any of the responsibilities.

The best hook is this song:

The show was for you young Americans. I am not a young American. As I say, it was Disney Broadway circa 2015.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Passwords
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Herbie, Here, I disagree. Old computer? It is slow. Screen looks like crap. Change! ====== My issue is with AI. If this Artificial Intelligence idea is so good, why can't it solve a basic problem that everyone has: passwords. -
Humans Living on Mars vs Robots on Venus
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Health, Science and Technology
CdnFox, I entirely agree. We know about these places largely through "robots". To do this, we did not send men - humans -to these various moons, planets. We sent devices with AI. The two Voyagers are still sending info back to us. The original-coders are now dead but their children can fix problems. ==== Terraform? You lost me there. We humans are not going to make Venus, Mars liveable. -
Mark Carney does not have a majority. If I were Poilievre, I would do as Trudeau Snr in 1980. Poilievre should promise the NDP status, make a deal with the BQ. Whatever. Get their votes. He must defeat the federal Liberals in the house - and provoke a federal election. ====== And then, Poilievre must run as someone who can protect Canada.
-
You may be right. I tend to agree. Poilievre did show a remarkable lack of instinct. ==== Trump threw him a bone and Poilievre missed it. Instead, Carney saw the bone and ran with it.
-
Agreed. Doug Ford is no Trump.

Years ago, I wanted/planned to see it on Broadway. I finally saw it in Montreal. 1. Too long. Repetitive. It was 2h45 - it should have been 2h15. 2. Orchestra? There's no orchestra - no orchestra pit. (I watched as a guy in front of a piano raised his hand. Apparently, it has 10 "musicians" under the stage.) 3. Very DEI, post-Obama, Disney American. Impossible to understand unless you speak such a language. As we walked out, I took a US 10 from my wallet. "Look carefully, I said. It's about him." 3a. She said? "Las Vegas est mieux."

Why hasn't Alberta joined Team America?
August1991 replied to paxamericana's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
In Canada, we get along - and we also pay our way. ==== The American federal state has too many governments borrowing faster than they can generate tax revenue. Your central government and too many of your state governments are ponzi schemes. -
Why hasn't Alberta joined Team America?
August1991 replied to paxamericana's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
You raise good questions. I wonder too. 1. Alberta and Saskatchewan have no access to oceans. 1a. So, why not dividing BC into north south - as Oregon, California should be? 1b. You Americans divided Virginia. 2. Retirement scheme? 2a. Our CPP/QPP is fully funded. We borrow lower than GDP growth. 2b. You're far too generous with Social Security/Medicare. They are not funded. You borrow faster than GDP growth. 3. Equalization payments. 3a. In Alberta, GDP/capita is twice PEI.
