New Submarines: Carney vs Poilievre
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Canada does not need submarines, or F-35s. As a taxpayer, I object. Kinda my point. -
Poilievre: How to deal with Trump
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Strongly disagree. ==== Trudeau Snr understood that we Canadians get along. Let's do a deal. -
1. Target in Canada 2. Berlin Airport

Montreal Municipal Elections: 2025
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
I fear that many people voted in Montreal for Soraya - for exactly that reason. -

Personne ne parle de Thibodeau. ===== IMHO this is the Reagan/Trump story in this election. -
New Submarines: Carney vs Poilievre
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We live in a different world. -
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-submarines-carney-south-korea-9.6959659 No doubt what to do.

Poilievre: How to deal with Trump
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Before, I reckon Poilievre should have tried to win with nationalism. What do I know. -
Carney apparently doesn't. Trump understands federal Canada, English/French. Quebec/Alberta - Ontario. ==== Trudeau Snr famously noted (I misquote): The Toronto Blue Jays are largely American ball players - playing for a Canadian team.

As I say, we Canadians have all the benefits of being American - without any of the costs. Trump? I agree. Let's do a deal. Get along.

PQ First Mandate -Referendum
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Agreed. ===== But without either Alberta or Quebec, Ontario would be Michigan. And Toronto would be Detroit. -
Montreal Municipal Elections: 2025
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
In Quebec, we vote on Sundays. Our municipal election date is Sun 2 Nov. In Montreal, I predict "Soraya" (the federal Liberal) will be Montreal's next mayor. ===== Rabouin/Sauve divided the vote. There was no Mamdani. -
Or imagine if Prince Charles had died in a plane crash. We would have this guy on our money. Opening our parliament. ===== Strongly agree.

Kittens meow. Older cats do not, among themselves. But among humans, older cats have different noises (meows) - depending on the human. ==== In heat, female cats are noisy. They drop an egg/blood only after, uh, insemination. (Human females drop an egg/blood every four weeks or so -regardless.)

Georgia: America's Quebec
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in State Politics in the United States
I'm Canadian - I have no desire to be a 51st state. But these written words from the Enlightenment are, uh, still amazing. -
Newfoundlanders are risk takers, they look for the place to fish. Get rich. They fundamentally don't understand that Churchill Falls is not about finding fish. It is about borrowing money, engineering, building dams.

Three Thoughts on Trump - 2025
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Our federal PM, whether Carney or Poilievre, is facing a problem with Trump, MAGA. And another problem with the future PQ governement of PSPP. ===== Mulroney and Trudeau Snr faced both. Laurier lost an election on reciprocity. -
Three Thoughts on Trump - 2025
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
These lumber duties/quotas make some Canadians richer - at the expense of Americans. Trump is correct. We Canadians are hypocrites. We "Canadians" favour free trade - if it benefits some of us. -
Montreal Municipal Elections: 2025
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Local Politics in Canada
Thibodeau has zero chance. For many reasons, large urban elections vote "left". ==== Rabourin and Sauve divided the vote. Soraya Ferreda, a federal Liberal, will be Montreal's next mayor. -
Like Smallwood, there's always the dream of a better deal. ===== People have survived for 1000 years on Iceland. Icelanders have a sustainable community. People have survived for 300 years on the island of Newfoundland. Around the world, people know the Newfoundland accent.

Chrissy, You make my point. When struggling, put in a marker. (BTW, AI can't do that.) McCartney like Bacharach could imagine melodies. Mozart could imagine such melodies across many instruments. George Martin was the fifth beatle. Lennon could write words, like Pushkin. ====== Cobain? And which Gershwin?
