How do you pay for health care?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
I reckon that a doctor/nurse should be able to work both in the public - and in a private system - simultaneously. More important, no one in the 2020s should be using a fax number. ======= Conflict of interest? Public school teachers often write textbooks - and offer private tutoring! -
How do you pay for health care?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Share my files between the two? The private clinic sent me reports about my health as an attachment by email: no cost. The public system first gave me a fax number. Then asked me to return next week and sign a waiver so they could access the information. -
In Quebec, I sometimes show my health card (carte soleil) but more often I use my Visa. I often pay out of pocket - I keep the receipt to claim on my income tax. ===== After meeting my private doctor, who sent me to a public specialist: I need a MRI: -my other public doctor explained: put your name in the queue- you should be called in 3 or 4 months -I chose to do the MRI next week for Cdn$800. I'll get the travel points.

Canadians vs Europeans/Americans
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
We Canadians speak two languages. We even have different religions But unlike Americans and Europeans, we have never fought each other. -
Canadians vs Europeans/Americans
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Europeans? 1618-1648 -Thirty Years War 1789-1815 - Napoleonic War 1914-1945 -World Wars ===== You Europeans fight each too often. We Canadians get along. -
Japan 1945? Avoiding a Iran Ground War: Drop the bomb
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
The US dropped two on Japan- it achieved regime change. BTW, it was a Democrat president who dropped the bombs. -
We have few pet fish/mice/rats/snakes? But we love cats/dogs? Why did dogs/cats adapt/learn to live with us? -Dogs protected our territory from other humans -Cats protected our work from other animals About 50,000 years ago.

Herbie, cats are mammals. By nature, they burrow, go underground. Chickens do not burrow.

Canadian? All the benefits - without the cost
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
Strongly disagree. Do you know anything about the "Thirty Years War"? How about the "Napoleonic Wars"? At the time, even several decades later, people would have noted that there was no single war. ===== The period between 1914-1945 was a disaster for all humans on this planet. In August 1914, civilised Europeans foolishly commit suicide. -
Diane Keaton was born in 1946. Robert Redford was born in 1935. === It happens.

Japan 1945? Avoiding a Iran Ground War: Drop the bomb

I agree. ==== But in Japan, the A-bomb showed the fanatical that they had lost. -
Canadians vs Europeans/Americans
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Europeans typically fight each other after a generation. You Americans are now divided = like 1860. We Canadians get along. -
Andrew Coyne/The Economist anti Trump
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Media and Broadcasting
The salary/livelihood of Chantal Hebert and Andrew Coyne is largely based on federal taxpayers. More concerning to both and others, a change in federal government could affect their pension. ===== Soviet? This is how Putin controls Russia. It is how federal Liberals control Canada. -
If O'Reilly ever said that, show me the context. But he did say, "We'll do it live."

Peace in the world: after 1814, after 1991
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
I largely agree with both Kissinger and Mearsheimer. To his credit, Kissinger (like Trudeau Snr) applied his ideas. -
Peace in the world: after 1814, after 1991
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
Europe established a structure of peace in 1815 - it lasted to 1914. In 1848, there was a revolt (like now in Tehran). The Russians intervened and maintained the structure of world peace. -
Peace in the world: after 1814, after 1991
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
To have world peace - a structure of peace, America must get along with China and Russia. Iran is an irritating but minor player. I suspect that this supposed peace with Iran is based on America (Trump) talking to Russia/China. ==== We now live once again in a multi-polar world. -
Iran -China, Russia? Reaction to Trump
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in The Rest of the World
I reckon that you are a nationalist. ==== Too many young male Europeans have died for such. -
Canadians vs Europeans/Americans
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Endless wars? Europeans have periodoc wars - every 100 years or so, when the young males have forgotten. -
Quebec -Oil, Natural Gas -Frechette

Q My general opinion is that people in Quebec hate Trump. -
Herbie, I trust that you're a real, uh Canadian? Or, are you one of those Americans who pretend to be a Canadian.
-
You are a rich person, as Keynes predicted.
-
Americans have Trump and Obama. Europeans have a metric system -but endless wars. Australians have kangaroos. We Canadians have two federal languages but no official culture. We get along.
