Defeating the Federal Liberals
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Trump layed the card. Poilievre should have played the nationalist card, strongly: Defend Canada, Quebec. === Carney was the better card player. -

In our federal parliament, the Liberals now have a majority of seats. This guy Carney, and these federal Liberals do not have a majority. -
Mark Carney = Mackenzie King?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
King was born in 1874, the grandson of W. L. Mackenzie. Despite what you read on the Internet, Rockefeller paid for King's education at Harvard. Carney was born in 1965. His family paid for his studies at Harvard and then he worked for Goldman Sachs. Both men are extremely ambitious: I suspect King moreso. -
1. Both were ambitious. 2. Both lacked charm. 3. Both were cutthroat. 4. Both were in thrall to the British crown. ===== Carney is arrogant - smartest guy in the room. King was not like that. Carney speaks decent French. King deferred to a lieutenant. Carney is Catholic, married to a New Zealander. King was probably gay.
-
I agree. ===== But people in various parts of Canada should receive mail, have access to the Internet, speak to federal bureaucrats in French/English.

Defeating the Federal Liberals
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
The federal Liberal Party will defeat itself - there will be a public perception of corruption. Carney has already started it. ==== In the past, many Canadians believed that Jean Chretien (like WalMart) was on their side. -
1. Mulroney did it in 1984. 2. Diefenbaker did it in 1957 - then decisively in 1958. 3. Harper did it progressively. === All federal Liberal politicians are corrupt. Carney? His cabinet?

Toronto-Quebec City High-Speed Rail
August1991 replied to 500channelsurfer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Peterborough route? We are not Osaka-Tokyo. WashNyBaWash. It makes no sense to build a Quebec-Windsor train. ====== Like Tesla cars, this is a virtue signal. Unlike Tesla cars, this will never been built. -
April 13 by-election results
August1991 replied to Barquentine's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I was surprised about the Terrebonne result. ====== The federal Liberal machine is remarkable: they defeated Poilievre in Nepean. -

Herbie, At present, the federal Liberal Party does not have the majority of the country. Before, the federal Liberals could appeal cross ethnic lines. Under this guy Mark Carney, it cannot. -
https://www.ctvnews.ca/montreal/article/quebec-liberals-lead-pq-in-new-poll-as-caq-remains-distant-third/ The PLQ under Miliard s 32, the PQ is 29. ==== Canadians want to get along.

How do you pay for health care?
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Strongly disagree. I am not a Libertarian: Canada is a successful federal State because we have provincial governments. -

Spanky, you raise good questions. Health care is complicated. It often concerns end of life; indeed life itself. Our current Canadian system of "all-covered" doesn't work. I prefer the the Quebec/European system. ==== Quebec doctors/nurses should be free to work on both sides. -
Who will control the World's Oil?
August1991 replied to Goober National's topic in The Rest of the World
In Christian protestant church pews, there were benchmarks: where to sit. There are two world oil price benchmarks: Brent and WTI. Watch them. -

I strongly agree. Adopt an older cat from the SPCA. MAiD is a permanent solution to a temporary problem. -

You could also move abroad. Such is modern Canada when we don't have kids - or kids we agree with. -
2026-10-05 Lundi - Quebec General Election
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
With a bare Carney federal majority, I predict a strong PQ majority. The National Assembly has 125 seats. ==== On island, the QS may manage. I haven't looked at various ridings off island - but I suspect the CAQ will be devastated. -

I tend to agree, Zeitgeist. IMHO, wlll the CPR/CNR, local jurisdictions agree to the rights of way? Can the federal Liberals -Carney- get everyone to agree? ==== Harper, Fortier, Charest got everyone to agree to build the Champlain Bridge. -
Le 13 septembre 1759, la Conquête and so on
August1991 replied to August1991's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
When I posted this, I was beginning to understand that the Seven Years War was in fact a minor war between Prussia and Austria. Then, the British and French got involved. In 1763, the first important treaty was signed in Saxony: Palace of Hubertusberg. The second unimportant treaty was signed south of Paris, and it changed Canada's history. -

Thoughts. -
The same happened in Newfoundland. ==== I know that you westerners hate Trudeau Snr but IMHO, he wanted to protect the individual - and the province. He was a federalist. René Lévesque was a democrat.
