  1. When I posted this, I was beginning to understand that the Seven Years War was in fact a minor war between Prussia and Austria. Then, the British and French got involved. In 1763, the first important treaty was signed in Saxony: Palace of Hubertusberg. The second unimportant treaty was signed south of Paris, and it changed Canada's history.
  2. The same happened in Newfoundland. ==== I know that you westerners hate Trudeau Snr but IMHO, he wanted to protect the individual - and the province. He was a federalist. René Lévesque was a democrat.
  3. 1. I generally oppose this fixed date idea. I prefer the idea of a fixed mandate - five years max. 2. Milliard, Fréchette, PSPP. Duhaime - WhoTF? ==== PSPP and Duhaime I sorta know. Too short to know the others. Let's see.
  4. In the US, few sitting house members switch sides because the President has nothing to offer. (LBJ excepted.) I once voted BQ but got NPD. It happens. In Canada, our elections are not rigged. In the US, the elections are rigged. Why? How? Americans vote the way we Canadians submit census forms.
  5. Strongly disagree. ==== Yeltsin's Russian Federal Constitution had 89 independent states - each with a governor decided locally. Putin changed the Constitution so the President decided the local leader.
  6. PM Carney with a majority is not like President Trump. In Canada, our only protection is provincial governments.
  7. If I were Poilevre and Lewis, I would agree to defend Canada. Heck, even the Bloc would agree.
  8. Canada is a federal state with various governments -even various legal systems. We get along.
  9. This describes the federal Liberal Party: "We're here to help." ======= This place Canada is more complicated.
  10. Trudeau Snr bought/delayed his majority when Jack Horner crossed the floor in 1978. ==== In 2026, we are in the same world -but faster.
  11. There is no tax difference between a TFSA and a RRSP. Both avoid taxes.
  12. Do you have a kid to drive you to the MRI? In Canada: Do you have a smart kid who knows a friend to drive you to the MRI?
  13. 1. If you are working, have any income - delay OAS to 70. Otherwise, I would take it at 65 or ASAP. Note: OAS is based on years in Canada. 2. CPP/RRQ payments are complicated. 2a. I knew a Russian woman who took the money and ran. She gets about $110 monthly. 2b. I started to receive mine (RRQ) when I was 63. But I still contribute.
  14. If Carney gets his majority, we will have an opposition in Quebec.
  15. True. But disagree. Avi Lewis and Poilievre want to help ordinary people.
  16. Federal Liberals are pushing this. === Harper/Fortier managed to build our new Champlain Bridge.
  17. Note to the BQ: You matter. Cette partielle de Terrebonne.
  18. Like Trump, they know modern media. I reckon that Lewis wants to help ordinary people. ==== This guy Carney is an arrogant bastard. Like in 1914, he is a specialist expert - about to lead us all into a disaster.
  19. Years ago, I was riding in a metro in Sweden (Finland?) beside my daughter. We were tourists. I looked around. I said to her, in French, these Europeans don't understand assimilation.
  20. Americans let anyone into their country. We Canadians prefer foreigners who get along with us.
  21. My opinion. I think the definition of a Canadian Citizen dates back to the federal law of 1948, under King.
  22. Prior to this federal Citizenship Act, it was not clear who was a Canadian. Pierre Trudeau passed this act.
  23. In 1976, we Canadians adopted a federal law defining citizenship. If any person is born in Canada, the person is Canadian - has Canadian citizenship. (The only exception is children of diplomats.) BTW, we Canadians can also have several passports.
  24. I disagree. Bu many Canadians agree with you.
