Some Vegetative Patients are Conscious and Responsive
Moonlight Graham replied to scribblet's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
Maybe they should ask him if he wants them to pull the plug? -
I bet I could raise my kid as an atheist (which I'm not) better than 95% of Catholics raise their kids. I could raise my kids to be spiritual, even to believe in many of the things Jesus stood for, or even to believe in God, without raising them to follow any particular religion. You don't have to be religious to be moral, and vice versa

Well she goes to church sometimes, but just not every Sunday. Has a cross above the bed, a rosary laying around etc.

Objective of an electoral system
Moonlight Graham replied to Mighty AC's topic in Political Philosophy
No, I would think only that voters think the current system is better than the proposed systems.- 172 replies

My gf is Catholic, but not the regular church-going type. I was raised Catholic but am not religious anymore and am more agnostic. I asked her if she wants our hypothetical future kids to be Catholic - she said yes. I said I don't. She said "what, you want them to be atheist?". I said "No, I'll let them choose whatever religion they want or not want". This almost started a fight LOL so we dropped the subject for now, to be continued... One this is certain, I won't be showing my future hypothetical kids this thread.

Anti west slogan on war memorial

Not unreasonable? Ask yourself how many times such a thing has occurred in Canada? Or the US? Or any Western country? -

Oooh Valerie Jarrett...scary! Who? LOL. Negotiating with the "enemy" (one that CIA & Mossad says doesn't even have any nuke weapon program) > starting wars. http://www.haaretz.c...weapon-1.419300 and this if from a popular Israeli newspaper... -
CIA Director Petraeus Resigns
Moonlight Graham replied to a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Maybe someone had threatened to blackmail him, so to avoid this he revealed the affair. Unlikely scenario thought. Director of the CIA is a very busy job. If he had an affair his marriage may be under threat and he may have promised his wife that he would give 100% attention to their relationship instead of being at work all day and night. This has happened before. I remember Hall of Fame baseball player Ryne Sandberg retired in the with no warning effective immediately in the middle of the season during the prime of his career because he was having marital problems. He took a year or 2 off, ended up getting divorced, then returned to baseball right after that. Whenever a high-profile person "resigns" from a job it could mean anything. He could have been fired, and they let him make up this excuse of resigning for him to save face. Happens all the time. -
Republican President in 2013
Moonlight Graham replied to Big Guy's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I think the public uproar over a GOP being President would likely mean that Hillary Clinton would end up as President. It's the next obvious choice, and I don't think people would have a problem with it, and probably would prefer her over Biden. -

I'm having this same issue and have had it consistently ever since the update, and experience it about 80%-90% of the time I try to post, especially when I use the "quote" button and quick-reply window. I must copy/paste and reload the reply and then that works 100% of the time. I use IE 9, latest release. I need to use this browser because of other websites I use. I've also tried clearing all my browser cache and it doesn't seem to help.

He wasn't crapped on like Bush Jr. We can also say that the partisan ideological divide in the US has rarely been at the divisive level it's at now. -
US election prediction thread
Moonlight Graham replied to a topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I think some of it is, but calling him a socialist/communist, a radical, a divisive president...I don't see this as primarily racist. The "he wasn't born here" thing may have some racist tones from some, as well as him being Muslim. No doubt there are GOP supporters who are racist, but it's really hard to separate racism from good ol fashion partisan bashing. Point is some of it is racist, some of it isn't, how can we really tell? -

Presidential Race Results
Moonlight Graham replied to jbg's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Democrats aren't as left or as naive as, say, the NDP. Democrats lean more to the center, maybe a bit left of center at most. Most Democrats are a lot more sane than the increasingly far-right wing Christian fundies that makes up a lot of the GOP base. Both are a bunch of lying murderous sellouts though. Romney might have done a better job on the economy, who knows. But the GOP, in terms of social issues like gay rights & women's rights, are on the wrong side of history. In 50 years people will be disgraced at some of the GOP's social conservative stances just like people are disgraced with the racism and sexism that existed in the 1950's. Romney lost the race for many reasons but a large part was due to his archaic social stances.
