  1. Not sure what dictators have to do with Islam. There are horrible dictators throughout Africa, some are Muslim and some are Christian. Indonesia is the most populous Muslim country in the world and it has a mostly healthy democratic system. Violent Muslim extremists, along with a some twisted policies (re: Saudi Arabia), are the problem.
  2. This video has a lot more very important historical facts the other vid missed, like the Balfour Declaration and the Peel Plan etc. However, it misses many other. It barely even mentions the 1967 war. This isn't a summary of the conflict, it's an argument of how the Palestinians have missed out on multiple opportunities to have their own state with much more in deals that included much more land than Gaza/WB has now. This claim is mostly true, the Palestinian have missed out on these opportunities that given the recent situation they look mostly foolish for rejecting, but hindsight is 20/20 I guess. However, this film is clearly biased against the Palestinian side in tone and the facts it covers. It's not really any better than the OP video IMHO. It's criticisms of Palestinians/Arabs are far greater than that of Israelis/Zionists.
  3. How is this possible when I don't really have a "side", and if forced to choose I'd probably go with the Palestinians. So your assumptions about me are 100% wrong. You're being foolish because any criticism of this video automatically makes me an Israeli-backer anti-Palestinian xenophobe? I acknowledge every single criticism of Israeli actions in that film. I agree with them! The video just doesn't make much of an attempt to balance that with criticism of Arab/Palestinian actions. Tell me this: do you side more with the Israelis or Palestinians? Or are you neutral?
  4. This is the crux of the thread, something betsy doesn't understand.
  5. You can't "cure" a pedophile, short of artificial means like hormone therapy or castration. Even then that's no sure thing. Same as you can't "cure" a homosexual, a bisexual, or a heterosexual. Save weird chemical intervention, pedophiles will always be sexually attracted to kids, like you'll be attracted to whoever or whatever you like. The only thing a pedophile can control, same as a heterosexual pr homosexual or bisexual, is to act or not act on his/her natural desires.
  6. Yeah, exactly. I couldn't imagine anything less Christ-like than all this bullcrap. Shame on you betsy, and anyone who thinks this vile nonsense. This kind of thinking is really damaging, and yes it has driven people to commit suicide or suffer serious mental illness like anxiety or depression. This is no different than me loving chocolate ice cream a lot more than vanilla ice cream, but me being taught chocolate ice cream is wrong or unnatural, so my thinking is re-engineered to make me think I dislike chocolate and like vanilla more. Sorry, that's ridiculous. I could repress all I want, but subconsciously I'll always love chocolate more than vanilla.
  7. Could you explain why exactly? Can you link their specific policies to the jobs growth? Since the US has also experienced strong job growth in November, it appears to me that the overall economy has showed some growth. Good sign.
  8. Maybe they believe what they want to. I knew a guy who was a math whiz, graduated from high school with a 99% average. Then he dropped out of university halfway through to become a priest.
  9. If the US doesn't figure this out by the deadline, should Canada and the rest of NATO invade?
  10. Hate is a strong word, but having a good amount of distaste for your government, especially when they act like ass-hats, is healthy I think. Much better than loving the man. Harper is an ass but I disliked Chretien at least as much. i think most people dislike him because he's very controlling, prorogues Parliament for personal political reasons, has made Canada more militaristic, is a dork, doesn't care about climate change and suppresses science, and is generally a social conservative when most the country is to the left of him (though they don't seem to vote LOL).
  11. If I could post a pdf of the book, I would, smart-ass. Here's another hint: http://www.toronto.ca/ourtoronto/fall2010/servicesforresidents/images/article16_407.jpg I'm not saying what is in the video is factually false, I'm saying it leaves out a lot. It offers almost no criticism of the Arab/Palestinian side. It's consciously biased toward one side. Just because a Jewish organization made it doesn't magically give it an objective spin. That's like saying Al-Qaeda and the Taliban are pro-Muslim/Arab and anti-West when in fact they have killed far more Muslims/Arabs than Westerners.
  12. Well, you have to show a lot more than that. You have to link the immigration with GDP-per-capita growth. Much of our recent and future growth has been and will be in the Alberta oil sands, but many immigrants have to been going to Toronto and Vancouver. Last time I went to Toronto it took me 15-20 minutes to drive through a sketchy low-income area dominated by visible minorities, many of whom I assume have come here since 1982. What is the gdp-per-capita of all immigrants over the last 30 years? That would be an interesting stat.
  13. Read this a few years ago, shows the different narratives of the different point of view of the conflict, along with the historical context. It's not an "alternate history", it shows different alternate histories: http://ca.wiley.com/WileyCDA/WileyTitle/productCd-1405175389.html
  14. Yes, but those 2 sides aren't included in this film. So as a self-billed short introduction to the Israel-Palestine conflict, this video is terribly one-sided and incomplete. It's a propaganda film with an agenda, whereas it should be much more objective if it's supposed to be an intro for people to the conflict. I think it's you who only wanted to hear what you want to hear. What I want to hear is the perspective of both sides.
  15. The video is massively biased against Israel. It's 6 minutes of "Israel has been terrible to Palestinians". No mention of Palestinian rockets or suicide bombers. There I just saved you 6 minutes, Bud you owe me those 6 of my life back. The video is a piece of garbage.
  16. Should Benjamin Netanyahu be on the list, considering his influence in the region and on US policy? Should Xi Jinping, leader of a nuclear-armed emerging economic powerhouse of 1.3 billion people, be ranked higher? Abdullah bin Abdul Aziz al Saud is powerful, but should he be that high, and does he even compare to Xi Jinping in power? Maybe in terms of world oil and regional stability he does.
  17. gonna pick that one up soon.
  18. The letter didn't dispute climate change: The letter said that the earth hasn't warmed significantly, so technically they are disputing recent global warming not climate change.
  19. Geologists study the history of the earth, and can see changes in the climate through history via ocean and lake sediments, fossils, glaciers and their carven paths and their rock/sediment remains. Geologist can also study ice and ice cores.
  20. It's difficult to not like this song:
  21. Compare these quotes to: Welcome back Mr.Canada!
  22. Good video
  23. Why can't there be something beyond our universe? What if our universe exists side-by-side trillions of other universes, just like a single cell in the human body exists side-by-side trillions of other cells. Just because humans can't observe beyond our universe doesn't mean nothing exists beyond it.
  24. Ya that's what makes me scratch my head. If God is, say, some kind of powerful force of energy, or a powerful being, or whatever he/it is, how did God come to exist? If believers in God's creation of the universe argue that the universe had to be created, then didn't God have to be created too? Why does the universe have to be created, yet doesn't since "he always existed" as they say. Maybe the energy & matter of our universe has always existed, but before the big bang there was a "big crunch" where a previously existing universe shrank into the small ball of matter that was existed the moment prior to the big bang, and our universe has simply existed always cycling through an infinite number of big bangs and big crunches. Who knows.
