Harper did save the country between 10 and 20 Billion by getting out of the kyoto scheme. As far as saving the planet goes, if you believe all the doom and gloom, we're all doomed unless india and china reduce their emissions. You might as well grab the first woman you see, tell her the world's coming to an end and make sweet love to her. That's a winning strategy to me.

I agree. The whole "left vs right" is largely an emotional argument. It has little to do with current reality. To me, government doesn't have to be left or right, they need to be problem solvers. This is where the Liberals get an F in my books - trying to solve gun crime with a long gun registry, signing on to a carbon credit scheme to help the environment and "defending healthcare." Raiding the UI fund was a good idea to their credit. Harper's been pretty good in my books. He doesn't often let popularity be a barrier to probem solving (i.e. income trusts, kyoto). That's rare for a politician.

So basically you're saying "There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know." No, you can't be wrong.

Global warming (with or without man-made CO2) could possibly lead to people living in certain regions to be displaced. Earth has been warmer in the past without man, so it likely will be again. If this happens, there will be a cost to relocate people. But it might not happen for 1,000 years or it might not happen until the Leafs win the Cup, which would be never. We don't know. Til then, it's best not to give away money due to carbon credit schemes or waste food for fuel. So far, the latter is the only real consequence of global warming. If only there had been time to debate that one.

Kill off the planet? That's silly. Earth has been much warmer and much colder and it seems to be still around. Or is this hell?

Which path is that, asking a poster for a citation? I asked for a citation about whether an election promise was made. In response I got: If you check that citation out the date of the article is Jan. 2007, so saying she's been promising an exit strategy before the election is still not backed up, is it? She did meet an election promise to meet with the Tobacco Marketing Board. The article did answer my second question of whether their views didn't get to Ottawa. Apparently they did: One thing the government did do is dump $900 million into the CAS, so all farmers with low incomes have been getting some federal support. http://72.14.205.104/search?q=cache:FaUl-L...;cd=1&gl=ca Will some tobacco farmers vote against her to send a message to the government. Of course. All the Liberals have to do is promise they'll deliver an exit strategy, whether it's a good idea or not. I would have to see what the proposed exit strategy entailed, what crops farmers want to transition to, what equipment they'll require and how large the average tobacco farm is before commenting on it. If the exit strategy was some sort of loan program to purchase machinery, etc, that would be a viable idea.

Tilsonburg? My back still aches when I hear that word.

Do you have a citation regarding an election promise made? How about one saying their views didn't get to Ottawa? Really, the story is these farmers want taxpayer money so they can grow more lucrative crops. No where does it suggest they are down and out or losing their farms. They just want to make more money. I assume their cries fell deaf on the last govenment too, because they're down on the priorities list for good reason.

She likely didn't suggest jdobbin wasn't a strong Tory supporter either. By not suggesting something, does it now mean you're suggesting it? If so, I'd like to not suggest that the columnist isn't an idiot. Maybe the Liberals can run on putting soldiers in the streets.

I'd just like to see Canada as the world leader in common sense. Maybe all the leaders could get together and discuss whether recent events like "whoops we forgot to take the oceans into consideration, just give it 10-20 years" might suggest that there is in fact time for debate and we won't all be doomed if we don't act before 2012 as promoted.

Conservatives Chide "DIONS" Candidate
noahbody replied to madmax's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not a big fan of Dion, but trying to smear him with Elizabeth May's words is undeserved. If there's one good thing about Dion (I can't think of two) it is that he's a strong federalist. Doesn't reflect well on May though. If she had half a brain, she would have said "If you don't like the conservatives, vote green." -
The Poor, Misunderstood Khadr Family
noahbody replied to WarBicycle's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This article isn't about Omar, it's about Abdullah and his sister. Regardless, it seems they all participated in terrorist acts after becoming Canadian citizens. If you can't revoke citizenship for that, it's pretty sad. -
You might be on to something. Maybe it was a setup by Judy Sgro.

Albert Einstein says 'Belief in God 'childish,'

Trying to use the sickness of a child to further your native agenda is beyond pathetic. How selfish can you be? And really, trying to save a child's life is genocide? Think that one through.

Well to be a threat, she would have to be "in"with the mob. It appears she was "out." Also, she would have to have access to information that was relevant to the mob. Please tell me why the mob would have any interest in Bernier's portfolio. If the mob wanted to infiltrate the government, they'd run someone for office. Maybe they have done so. The mafia did it rather successfully.
-
I'm not sure which is less likely, the mob asking her for a favour or she doing the mob a favour? Apparently, since the mob gave her fiancee the ultimatium of marry her and you're out, it would appear she and the mob weren't exaclty close. And since the mob tried to ruin her plans for marriage, I'd say she likely wasn't a big supporter of the mob. http://www.canada.com/montrealgazette/news...a6-ad69c391a634 Knowing that, do you think she was the threat?

Canadian society is ever-evolving. There have been times such as the Depression when it was about family survival, but today it is mostly about individual identity and success. The native culture, IMO, is about group identity and survival. The success of the individual isn't given much importance. And if it involves joining mainstream society, it can be seen as leaving the group and culture behind.

On the news they reported with chemo there is a 50% chance of remission. If it was only 10% then the father's positon would be understandable.

The Liberals would be far better off coming up with a platform and making a big deal out of it. There strategy of tying to paint the Harper government as corrupt is a poor one. The Tories aren't perfect, but they can't compete with the Liberals in the corrupt category. That's why "but the Liberals" keeps coming up. The Liberals live in a glass house and they're throwing stones at a house with windows. They need to get a leader, get a platform and start offering a viable alternative to voters.

And you think Harper knew why?

We pay while Indians live in luxury
noahbody replied to geoffrey's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Sure, let's start by agreeing the Six Nations has no right to any resources on the Haldimand tract. Since the crown never issued them a deed, they obviously didn't grant them mineral rights. Do you agree or disagree? -

That would make you over six years old. I don't believe it. -
The Moscow Leafs has a nice ring to it.
