Are the Liberals damaging Green party chances...?
noahbody replied to Savant's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm sure he believed in global warming and global cooling. I doubt he was convinced that man-made emissions were fully responsible for the rise in global temperatures. Nor should you be. Given the data that might be true. Are you under the belief that because of man Earth has cooled for the last time? Did higher CO2 levels in the past stop the world from cooling? The science that needs to be observed is the science of human behavior. Fear of the unknown is a powerful motivator. The idea that we're experiencing something unprecedented is what drives this fear. The NASA data correction alone should have been enough for the IPCC to say "whoops." But somehow the fact that it's even been warmer within 70 years seemed to fall on deaf years. We even had an ice age scare shortly after that. Fool me once shame on you. He wasn't an alarmist by any means. -

Good lord. Are you suggesting cutting the GST wasn't a bad thing to do? -

Right. People can knock down their homes and build smaller ones. That wouldn't cost much. -

Can you name one person, left or right wing, who doesn't believe in global warming? Or do you mean global warming 'the world is coming to an end' hysteria? Gore's mentor didn't believe that. Was he right wing? -

Again, it's not a right wing/left wing issue, it's right brained versus left brained. Emotion tends to blind people. -

The gun registry was the most idiotic idea and biggest waste of money ever. Criminals hadn't registered their handguns for 70 years. Was it likely that they register their long arms? No. So basically, we spent $2 billion to prove this. And now will keep it going at the cost of around $25 million per year, which works out to $200.000 per homicide with a registered gun. Number of lives saved: 0. When you look at a proposed solutions like the long gun registry, it's good to ask "so what?" The police access it 5000 times a day. So what? How many times a day can the police rely on the information? Zero. Because if the registry says there are no registered guns it doesn't mean there are no guns. A criminal record check provides much more valuable information. Green Shift shifts taxes. So what? Are shareholders going to flip the bill? No. Is Joe Consumer? Yes. And how will funding social programs help the environment? -

Funny, I was just thinking this morning that a good tag for the Green Shift would be "Brought to you by the same people who thought the long gun registry was a good idea." I can't wait til Dion bombs a shopping mall with live turkeys. -
I'm starting to think Dion was chosen as leader because the Liberals wanted to punish Canadians for not re-electing Martin, who was entitled to rule Canada for years.

Will lower crime rate hurt Conservatives?

What do you mean? His idea of bringing Taliban prisoners over to Canada would have not only solved the associated problem, but it would have also raised our population thereby lowering our per capita greenhouse gas targets. That's brilliant. -
It takes years for a tree to grow. If we don't act by 2012, we're DOOMED!

Dion's "Liberal Green Shift" carbon tax Plan

Unfortunately, there is about 30 percent of the population that would drink poison if the Liberal Party said to do so. The Green Shift is just another example. -

A better poll question would be: How much more of your take home pay would you like to see go towards subsidizing low income Canadians? -
The money going to public transit is a good investment. Spending $2 billion to capture what is a fraction of emissions is idiotic. What a waste of money.

I think it was his boyfriend who coined the phrase "Jesus Christ that hurts." -
But we will feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

Dion is passionate and principled and might have more integrity than most politicians, but he is a follower through and through. From what I've seen, he's far from intelligent. He might be book smart, but that's about it. He has a big heart that unfortunately gets in the way of his brain. The idea of bringing Taliban prisoners over to Canada was one of his best.

You drove all the way from Bountiful and turned around? Was your husband missing all of his other wives or just the 14-year-old ones? -
I guess if we were in an election campaign your comparison would be dismissed as a joke. But we're not. If Harper believes he can win the debate, he is better to leave it for the campaign. Canadians have short memories.

I googled that quote. It came up with 2 results, both from Oleg Bach.

By chance, do you know where I could pick up a bumper sticker that reads "Honk if you love the stingy bastard"?
