Will Stephane Dion become Prime Minister?
noahbody replied to 1967100's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I think Dion has a good chance. The reason is that many people have bought into the "Harper would be different with a majority" propaganda. So they will vote for a minority government thinking enough will vote for Harper for him to keep power. It will be a little like Canadian Idol when the only guy that could sing, Greg Neufeld, was gone early and Canada was stuck with Brian Melo. -
Where exactly does it say the fad is confined to the US? Nowhere. Does mention this though:

At least the liberals are consistent. They accomplish little in government; little in the senate. On this issue, the only loser is Canada.

Not all land sales were legit, but that one was. Payment was made to the government in trust for the Six Nations as per their request and a crown deed was issued. The governent is responsible for the amout of the payment plus promised interest (which accounts to little as they were only promised and increase in their trust by $3,000-$5000 per year on the entire '41 sale), but there is no claim on the land itself.

Tories to present confidence motion

How about a Roadside Bomb Registry? That ought to work. -
No surprise you spelled kindergarten wrong.

There is a need for crime to be the qualifier. To easy to plant a gun in your wife's car should you want a vacation.

Sorry, I linked to unrelated statistics in haste. You're noting unrelated stats as well as it's not specific to firearms. I'll give a proper link later.

No. I did get sick of eating peanut butter an honey sandwiches every day as a kid though. I'm talking about the drugs. If you think medicene would be where it is without capitalism, you're dreaming. Canada is a blend of capitalism and socialism. Do you have any specific criticisms with Canada you'd like to discuss?

When you become seriously ill, be sure to ask your doctor to give a perscripiton that wasn't developed in the capitalist world.

Toronto School Board eyes "Afro-centric" school
noahbody replied to g_bambino's topic in Local Politics in Canada
The history of where we all came from really shouldn't be the priority. It should be the history of where we came. Our history and how it relates to who we are today. Today we are multicultural. Our history is one of acceptance. The natives accepted the European just as we've accepted other cultures and peoples, even outcasts such as draft dodgers. Every Canadian student should know the meaning of The Underground Railroad, but they don't. Many can't recall our first P.M. Beside a need for an improved curriculum though, this likely started with a parent or two who could accept that their children weren't doing well in school. They likely first blamed the teacher, but found out other students were doing fine. It had to be something else. In reality, it likely has more to do with poor parenting or the fact that some kids, no matter of race, are just dumb. One black student interview on CBC said he'd never want to go or have his children go to an Afro-centric school because he would want to accept the idea that he or his kids couldn't make it in the regular school. I'm sure he and his kids will do just fine. Good on him. -
Supremacist group praises Liberal MP's proposal

I'd say the line is drawn at inciting violence. It's difficult to promote freedom of religion without allowing people to hate each other for no good reason. -
Well your thinking is definitely abstract. You're against guns and jail. You're likely against crime too, unless it involves jail. I'm against crime, against gangs and for results. If you want to target a gang, you target its membership. That's what the police can do with a law in which committing crime while in possession of a gun carries a stiff mandatory sentence. For example, if the police bust a drug deal and those involved are armed they go away for long enough that the membership is weakened. They don't have to go to jail forever, but it can't be a vacation. They have to be effectively out of the picture. Agree?
-
The prosecutor's version is based on the police investigation.

A and B are actually letters. Should be easy enough, even for a 1st grader.

Maybe we can make them put warning stickers on the guns like: Shooting your crack ho might lead to prison time."

It comes from my ability to interpret statistics. Since you're ranting about Harper now, I assume you'd rather not debate whether spending over $2M per homicide is wise Yes I'm sure you think Kyoto, without the participation of the problem emitters, was an effective solution. I just would like to focus on the growing problem of gang violence, so some poor sap, maybe you, doesn't get hit with a stray bullet. Though you're begining to change my mind.

Byron Powless and Richard Smoke were both adults, sorry. That's when the judge does this: You might want to take into consideration the inaccuracies of the accused original version (i.e 5 on 2). Hint: this is known as lying.

Cost of running registry from 2003-2006 (not including overruns) = $100 Million Number of homicides with registered long guns from 2003-2006 = 48 $100M/48 = $2.08M Mandatory minimums keep gang members, who are likely to re-offend, off the street. All parties campaigned on mandatory minimums for a reason.
-
We could also just make murder legal!

We're talking about the '41 agreement, so yes they did. I believe you're referring to some of the blocks the Brant sold/leased that were in default.
-
Nobody is saying nothing can be done about crime. People are saying the long gun registry does nothing about crime. The cost once again works out to over $2 million per homicide with a registered long gun. That's completely idiotic. Prisons do have their place, especially for keeping gang members off of the street.
