  1. What the #@#$@? Did you see this in a Liberal campaign advertisement? Oh come on, you really believe all Canadians are stupid. Anyone can see that, it is written for goodness sake. Problem is there are people who are doing everything they can to deny the hypocrite that Harper is. The reason Harper is a good leader is partly that he is a rational, not emotional person. He doesn't let his personal beliefs overshadow the pulse of the nation. He does in the end what he thinks is right for the nation, not for him. If you don't think he likes gays, you should be applauding him.
  2. Right. The Sunnis and SHi'a will never make good bedfellows. Best create two states or have Jack Layton go over there and fix everything.
  3. Saddam encouraged people not to hate Americans for the actions of their government. If its ememy can realize this, you as its neighbour should be able to too. I'll agree with you that Bush has been a disaster. He had the world behind America after 911 only to fk it up royally.
  4. Okay, how about this. We don't change the charter, we merely pass a law that would hold preachers of any religion to account to what they preach. For example, holding someone like Elmasry in Vancouver accountable for his preachings of martyrdom and murder when one of his congregation acts upon his teachings. Would this be any different than holding Charles Manson responsible for the killing of his disciples? Ah, so you did have a specific target group in mind, thought as much! That would already be covered under criminal law, directing/inciting acts of hate/racism/violence/murder and all of that kinda stuff. So really, again why would we need another law, when we already have one? My specific target group would be extremists who promote violence. Elmasry is a good example as a member of his congregation went over to Chechnya. I wonder if he is still preaching. Anyone know? For the record I do have muslim relatives who left the mosque as it was too radical.
  5. I think that fits under the "There's a sucker born every minute" clause.

  7. Shoud the right to freedom of religion be absolute? Is it time we revised the Charter and altered it to "freedom of peaceful religion."? In my opinion, it is time Canada protected its society from extremism and the nevative aspects of religion that keep other parts of the world from becoming civil. What's your view?
  8. Harper hasn't shined in the polls mainly because many look to the media to form their opinions. Also, it's been so long since we've had a leader willing to make unpopular decisions for the good of the country, many people don't respect him for it. He funtions as a leader of the country as he should, versus the leader of a party who's decisions are based solely on politics.
  9. The government does have a plan to create daycare spaces, which is practical. Paul Martin was promising universal daycare for everyone. Stop to think how much this would cost. It would be the biggest boondoggle of all time. As far as the $100 per child per month goes, as a parent it helps. It's basically family allowance, not a new concept, but worthwhile.
  10. I hadn't heard a news report that day, before I read your post. Lest we forget.
  11. Well no its not war,As the CONS put it,its retribution for 9/11 and helping to clean up the American mess. As for the excuse for killing these innocent people. As I said, its a made in the USA excuse.." we warned him and fired warning shots but he ignored" No one buys that phonney excuse anymore. Now because they know how bad it looks they are saying.. " we thought we saw wires coming off his body" Of course there were no bombs,no wires, jus dead innocent people This just in: people get killed in a warzone.
  12. "...in it's attempts to justify the Afgan war" It is the Liberals who took us into the Afgan war and rightly so. The war was justified, necessary and our duty. All the poll indicates is that Canadians are too apathetic to get informed. What a surprise.
  13. Irrelevant. Not really, the family should be charged with treason and jailed. CC: They sent their Canadian citizen son to go fight against Canada, all of them should be jailed. Or perhaps we need to bring back hanging? I have little patience for people like the Khadrs. So ya, let's get him released, and sent back to Canada to stand trial with the rest of his ungrateful terrorist family. Exactly. The laws are already there, punt them. Beyond that, we should start protecting are society and outlaw extremism. Freedom of religion like any other right has never been absolute. Poligomy is not allowed. Preaching death to fellow citizens shoud not be tolerated either.
  14. I'm not defending the Liberal plan at all. I just don't think the Tories have one either. Dion's defense of 10 years of nothing was that he was just about to act when the election was called. If this is the case, he should be able to tell the country his plan tomorrow. He must have it written out somewhere. He'll just need to find it.
  15. Liberals were investigated and the RCMP found nothing. And CEOs aren't fired when their number 2 man gets arrested for stealing. Why should the Finance minister get fired? *This* is how the private sector works. http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2006/...r_walmart_.html Was the Wal-Mart exec incompetent or was his number 2 man in breach of trust and a breaking the law? They charged one guy for insider trading. There was obviously a leak. Millions of dollars were made. Nice scandel if you can get away with it, as they did, again.
  16. Beneficial in what way? It is not possible now that the CPC dumped it all over ago, but we can get close. What are you talking about red? Buying credits doesn't clean up the environment. And no, Canada can't get close unless all industry is shut down and people stop driving cars, heating their homes and eating steak.
  17. Perhaps it is time for an election. I certainly don't think the Liberal plans for the environment was great but many people are still not convinced the Tories really believe in global warming anyway. The next 60 days will tell. Who cares if they believe in it or not? They have made it a priority because they hear Canadians. Whether it is real or not, should it be the number 1 priority? No. It should be drastically overhauling the medicare system that will bankrupt the nation in the next 10 years or creating massive wait times due to the aging baby boomers. The Libs don't have the nuts to touch this issue because it will be unpopular with voters. Harper has shown he will make unpopular decisions for the good of the country (i.e. income trusts). Get Dion in there and he'll protect the ticking time bomb for political gain.
  18. Sticking with our Liberal commitments means giving money away to other countries that don't have the same circumstances. A) How does that benefit the environment? How much will it affect the economy C) Since the top 5 contributers are hydo and they'll pass on any fines or costs to customers, how much will my utilities bill go up?
  19. As far as I can see it, the only way to achieve Kyoto targets is to get Alberta to separate. Of couse, that will take away 13 billion or so in equalization payments to the rest of Canada. But why not? Seriously, I can think of a proposed bill less responsible than the one trying to have Canada meet it's Kyoto targets. What a gong show.
  20. Totally agree. Beyond the media reporting these grasping at straws allegations from the self-serving prof, Canoe has taken the story to the Afgan people. That'll help build Canada's reputation.
  21. Okay so call me cranky but when I'm right, I'm right. I could have expressed myself less sarcastically but I truly wanted to make the point that Alberta is not the centre of the universe. no alberta is becoming the sess pool of canada do to big oil. I would not run or work there ether. 70% of the oil prduction goes to the us and leaves the shit behind for the albertin,s enjoy the rest of there lives. When you run out of water do not look east were we hwve some . I would not run there my self. Ignorance is bliss.
  22. The reality is other than showing leadership on the issue of climate change, if Canada meets it's Kyoto targets, it's not going to make a dent in the overall scheme of things. So why obsess about it? Why not obsess about a far more improtant, immediate problem, the health care system. With baby boomers turning 60 this year, the county has about 5 years to figure it out. Costs will skyrocket and the tax base will shrink drastically. Canada will have to become the highest taxed country to pay for its inefficient social programs. It's a probem that has be known for decades, yet noting has been done. The Liberal government turned our system into a sacred cow for political gain, vowing to protect it at all costs. The costs of their inaction are now just around the corner. If anything PM Harper has shown an ability to do the unpopular for the betterment of the country. When he acts on health care, I would hope the other parties, media and Canadians give him full support. If not, there won't be a dime to spend on such things as global warming and other initiatives.
