LIBERAL (!) guilt in Robo-calling
scribblet replied to Fletch 27's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hmmm 3/7 In March 2012 the Lib. MP said that his campaign did not break any of the rules and that it was a “issue-based call” (Sun News, March 12, 2012). So when's the by election for Guelph now that the Liberals have been fined for robo calling. Really, whoda thunk it after months of innuendo and allegations so far the only illegal activity is from the Liberals! and guess what, the Liberal MP has to undertake a "comprehensive compliance program." I mean really - How many votes were improperly swayed as a result of this illegal behaviour? Who in the Liberal leadership knew about this, how high up did go, and - When will the Guelph bye lection be held. -
moved to other thread

I've been getting fundraising calls from the Ontario PCs but I'm not a member, not sure how they got my number. The guy was pretty aggressive almost demanding that I donate money for the upcoming by election which is not my riding, so it really put me off. I told him I couldn't afford it out of my pension cheque and don't bother calling again, they sure know how to win friends and influence people - not.

Just saw this thread on home schooling, do many Canadians actually home school their kids. They should have a right to do that as long as they abide by the curriculum and required content. It would also require them to submit their calender course of study to the gov't or Board of ed to be approved, and monitored.

LOL really, it does tick off some people that Harper never discusses his religion, all they can do is write about is supposition and innuendo. Day did wear his religion on his sleeve until he lost the leadership. Since then he doesn't talk about and did do a good job in his portfolio. As far as Jack Layton goes, the adoration is bordering on idolatry. - kinda creepy.

Hmmm, I guess a religious centre beats housing, Love it, an intifada because their new decrees are unpopular. LOL find this funny, they are taxing goods that are smuggled in from the tunnels - This is not the first move Hamas has made recently that sparked an outcry in Gaza. Another was its decision to impose a hefty tax on the cigarettes that are smuggled in from Egypt via tunnels, and which until then were very cheap. It has also imposed taxes on various other products smuggled through the tunnels, as well as on market stalls and all shops that sell produce by weight.

I know.. Waldo who ? Actually, the Liberal might not win, with the NDP gaining ground it's possible they could win, or split the vote enough to let the conservative win. :D I don't imagine the pothead candidate would have enough money to launch his own legal action, or maybe Elections Canada will finally let us know.

Get a grip guys, so he likes Calgary, so what <big yawn> Irrational hatred of Harper

The NDP Fight Back with Their Own Ads
scribblet replied to cybercoma's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Wondering about that one too, the NDP had nothing to do with it. I agree about the Liberals but Martin eliminated the deficit by radically reducing transfer payments for health and education, would you like Harper to do that. Flaherty has also tightened up banking regulations. -

And then some they can no longer say they are taking the high road or above political 'spin' (spin is mild actually). They don't have the money to buy time for the ad so rely on emails and free media publicity. Don't think anyone is going to buy into that 'sweat' either -
Wow, ain't that right... imagine the hyperventilating had been the CPC. -

NDP opines on Oda's quiting..So does Harper.
scribblet replied to a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They are looking at changing them, but Oda is entitled to her $52,000. per year under the same rules as anyone else. She will not be collecting early as she's over 65 anyway, but their rules are the same as many other place, 75% average of the last 5 years @ 3% It should be dropped to 70% in line with most other plans, and not be paid out before age 65. If paid out early then it should be actuarially reduced. -

I give her credit for doing the honourable thing. Bev is entitled to around $52,000 a year under the current formula of the average of an MP's best five years of salary multiplied by three per cent of their total years of service, up to a maximum 75 per cent of their salary. Generally speaking in the outside world, the maximum is 70% and is actuarially reduced if collected early, she won't be collecting early. -
Exactly !!! A worker should have the right to not to have their union dues going to support political causes they don't personally value or support. IMO union dues should be going towards bettering and enhancing work conditions rather than supporting union campaigns against Israel and so on. Ending closed tendering for government contracts will open up the market place to more competition giving non unionized companies a chance to bid on lucrative contracts - gosh just think, maybe the school board wouldn't be billed a few thousand dollars to change a light bulb . Not to mention removing the artificial restrictions on the number of young people able to enter skilled trades, something that will open doors for more people rather than denying them a chance for an apprenticeship. BC, Alberta and Saskatchewan are also working similar changes in order to open up the job markets to more people. Voices for Fair Apprenticeship Ratios http://www.supportontarioyouth.ca/soy1_content_.php?id=4 I agree with Hudak and the above about the unfair restrictions on hiring apprentices as the current ratio is just 1:1. possibly it should be something like 1:3 too many apprentices and the journeyman can't teach or make sure safe practices etc. are in place.

I thought this was funny, know someone getting married, instead of a gift, send Obama a donation Obama Event Registry "It's a great way to support the President on your big day,Plus, it's a gift that we can all appreciate - and goes a lot further than a gravy bowl. So who gets the tax deduction, the giver or the givee

Sigh... are you saying there is no legislation on Senate reform in the works, or going forward ?

That's the problem isn't it, the experts deemed it not safe because of the thousand pounds of concrete and unsafe conditions. It's up to the premier to call in the Feds which McGuinty did on Tuesday, but I just read that the Premier and caucus were in Sudbury only a one hour and forty minute drive away but not one of them got up and left to go there. However, we are still jumping the gun... I watch the tail end of the questions and answers this afternoon, Neadles said if he had to do it again he would make the same decision. So... all the armchair critics here need to get all the facts before jumping to conclusions. http://www.globaltoronto.com/two+bodies+recovered+from+collapsed+elliot+lake+mall/6442669233/story.html Neadles said the original plan was to use the heavy equipment to drop the arm of the heavy machinery into the gaping hole of the mall to retrieve a concrete slab that fell over an escalator. The machinery, however, was unable to position itself on the ground. The rescue team decided to focus its efforts on clearing the front entrance instead. Once they were inside the building, they noted that the fallen concrete hadn’t collapsed because a beam had been jammed in between. “We were not able to search in the area of the escalators because of serious risk factors,” Neadles said. The two-storey centre was built in the early 1980s and received a passing grade last month following a structural examination, according to Eastwood Mall Inc., which owns the mall.

And if the NDP are elected next time around with the same statistics, we know it'll be perfectly fine and democratic

It's tragic, and on the surface it does appear that someone screwed up. However, not everyone here is fully informed or knows exactly what the problem was, what information and knowledge the decision to not go forward was based on. Really, get a grip, let's wait for the facts shall we. None of us have any facts about the decision making and the state of the building do we.
