  1. As Smallc said, the link is at the bottom of the main forum page. Also, you can use "Advanced Filters" (button near the top of the screen) to filter those results.
  2. What are you talking about? Can you explain your question more?
  3. Don't embed multiple quotes inside a single quote. It's bad forum etiquette as it can really get confusing as to who or what you're responding to.
  4. Select multiquote for all the postings you want to reference, then select Add Reply (at the bottom of the page) or Reply (beside the multiquote button).
  5. Active Content and New Content have been added to the primary navigation (tabs on each page) in the forums.
  6. Active Content and New Content have been added to the primary navigation (tabs on each page) in the forums. Was this the way it worked before the upgrade?
  7. No, never.
  8. I see this issue too. I'm investigating it right now.
  9. Note: I'm discussing the reputation system with Charles and doing more research on the actual feature. When I make a decision, I will create a new thread in the Support section of the forums.
  10. I have disabled the reputation system until further notice.
  11. Yup, same as the rest of MLW. However, there might be some inconsistencies - but I'll be addressing these over the coming weeks. About a week. The roll out didn't go as smooth as I would have liked, but the upgrade did force me to consider a redesign of the forums, which I think are a definite improvement. So in a way, I'm glad things didn't go as smoothly as I would have liked Top navigation - beside "Search Forums." I'm going to include another navigation element, Active Content, shortly. You last 10 posts can be found in your profile, and the 20 most active posters can be found in the forum footer (only in forum topic listings). Bigger is better than too small. I'll have to do some more research to answer these questions. No, one vote per post. Yes, but it would have little impact. Plus, they are limited in how many posts they can vote on per day - 20 per day. We'll have to wait and see - this is a new feature, it's difficult to determine what it's impact will be. Go to the users profile, then on the left-hand side, select "Find Posts" or "Find Topics" But you see, the newspaper industry is getting closer and closer to the brink of bankruptcy - they've never been in the business of community building and I highly doubt they're willing to invest the time and money into those activities that will enable the community to thrive and prosper. Ha, well, I certainly wouldn't turn them away if they asked for me help! BUT, the problem with the newspapers and their recent infatuation with online discussion is that it's roll out wasn't well thought out. They simply added comment functionality to the bottom of certain stories - that isn't a forum. That resembles a weblog, more than a forum. The discussions flowing from these story comments are more reactionary than engaging - and so they should be. They're comments to the story, not actual back and forth discussions on a specific topic. I have no idea what you're talking about. Newspaper owners, editors and writers start to get nervous when they see the garbage that can be spewed forth by anyone with a computer and a internet connection. Seriously, that is why we would NEVER allow comments below our educational features. We are not particularly interested in hearing someone - who has no idea what they're talking about - publicly critique one of our features. It detracts from the legitimacy of the feature, and in the newspaper comments section, from the legitimacy of the journalists work. A traditional discussion forum - separate from the primary content - is the optimum method of encouraging debate and engagement amongst readers of your website. Look in your profile. We will try it out for a few months, if it isn't working out, I'll remove the feature.
  12. Remind me again, what exactly did the assistant do that isn't provided in the upgraded forum feature set?
  13. The error you were receiving before has been fixed. Voting a post positively, or negatively, affects a members overall reputation. You can read a detailed technical explanation here, otherwise, it works very similar to the ignore feature, but on the post level (rather than on the member level). If enough users vote down a post - giving it a lower reputation, you can set a filter up to not show any postings with that poor of a reputation. Look at the bottom of each thread, you'll see "Currently viewing all posts. Change threshold?" - you can select that and modify the thread to only show postings of a specific reputation level. Well, you were taught wrong. Security wise, I didn't have a choice. The forums needs to be regularly updated to keep hackers at bay. Can you create a new thread at the G&M "forums"? Nope. Can you easily communicate with the moderators and or any of the other forum members? Nope. Can you search past entries? Nope. Can you ignore annoying members? Nope Can you carry on a in-depth discuss without the fear of the moderators suddenly closing comments? Can you view the postings in multiple different views (threaded, linear, etc)? Nope. I could go on and on how the G&M "forums" are not really forums. However, the biggest difference is that they're not a community. They're mostly drive-by smears made by rabid partisans only interested in shouting at each other. While things around here are not always prefect, our civility and respect for each other separates us from opinion clearinghouses like the comments section provided by the various online newspaper websites. And are you serious, you think the G&M moderation is better? I find that laughable.
  14. Are you still experiencing this issue? It just means you respect or like their opinion. If you add someone as a friend, their name will appear (under your Friends) in your profile.
  15. Thanks for all the kinds words everyone - HOWEVER, don't get to comfortable with this "default" design provided by IP.Board. We working on a complete redesign of the forums, and a lot of colours/etc are going to be moved and changed. I am taking in everyone's suggestions into consideration, but it is important that the forum look and feel adhere to Maple Leaf Web's existing branding before we attempt to "improve" it. Thanks! We're hoping to launch the new "look" tomorrow. I will keep everyone in the loop.
  16. The upgrade of the forum software took longer than expected. I'll spare you the gory details, but there were a few hurtles I didn't initially expect. However, the forum has been upgraded and everything should be operating fine. However, the templating system unexpectedly changed from the old version to the new version, therefore all the forum templates need to be rebuild - by hand. What you're seeing is the default forum template. I will be working on the forum templates over the next few days and the forum should be properly integrated into Maple Leaf Web's design shortly. Thanks for your understanding. If you have any specific questions about the new forum software, please feel free to ask them in this thread or post a support question in the Support and Questions forum Thanks! [updated!] The new "skin" has been applied to the forums - please disregard my original discussion about the "default forum template"
  17. Not without a great deal of customization of the underlying forum code - which I am extremely hesitant to do. The reason these boxes are visible is to give the user an option of reconsidering currently ignored users. Believe it or not, but if the forum didn't provide this option, there would be users who would forget they ignored someone and they would be asking, "Why can't I see so-and-so, etc, etc".
  18. If it's really bothering some of you, I will look into deactivating it for registered users. However, I'm pretty sure it isn't cramping anyone's style too much. Our twitter account is just another way for people to learn about everything we do on MLW.
  19. Yup, although officially I would place the date sometime in Jan/Fed of 2010, as I installed the forum in Dec of 2000, but I'm pretty sure we didn't actually go LIVE until the new year. I guess I should get planning a big party with cake and presents
  20. I'm not sure what to say, other than, the logging off issue seems to be relatively isolated to a few individual members. I know I've never experienced any issues, and other than this thread, I haven't heard of any other complaints. HOWEVER, for me to properly assess if this is indeed an issue, I need those of you having issues to provide me with more than, "Ya, that happens to me too!". If you experience problems like this, please provide me with the following: Browser and browser version OS and OS Version Type of internet connection (dialup, cable?) Also, I will be preforming a major upgrade to the forum software this week, which may (or may not) fix this issue for certain members. Cheers,
  21. Please see the recent announcement concerning recent poor behaviour in the forums. Thanks
  22. Thanks for the tip - we recently updated Drupal, the CMS that runes MLW, and it appears that has broken some links in the blog section. I will investigate/fix and I'll update this thread when I'm finished.
  23. If you are unhappy with another forum member's contribution, the correct course of action is to put him on ignore. If you think a member is violating a forum rule, report the post and leave it to the moderators. This thread is closed.
  24. The board time has been adjusted. It should be properly calibrated to everyone's clocks (outside of NFLD, that is) ,
  25. You're right, Canadian data-centers on average are a lot more expensive than US based data-centers. It was strictly an economic decision. However, consider this - over the 10 years Maple Leaf Web has been operating, we've used dozens of different contractors from all over the world. We've contracted writers, programmers, server admins, etc, and not once did I consider their geographical location as a determining factor in whether I would hire them or not. If I need someone to do a job, I hire the best - whether they're Canadian, American, or even Swedish (our Drupal expert lives in Sweden), it's just doesn't matter. I'm interested in providing the best quality experience possible and I think we're doing a pretty good job. I hope this answers everyone's questions.
