Hail The Master of Stupidity !
Greg replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Of course! The rules applies to copying and pasting the exact (word for word) posting across multiple forums. The core reason for this rule is to stop people from spamming multiple forums with identical materials - i.e. political or commercial spam. The majority of those spammers have no particular interest in promoting discussion, but are more motivated by the exposure the postings will get. Yes, thats a great idea. I have no problem with members linking to additional materials in a particular posting (even if its a different forum, or their own website) when proposing a new topic to discuss. -
Just so everyone is aware, I've created a new rule relating to the use of open proxies: INTERNET PROXIES The use of internet proxies to bypass a suspension or a ban is forbidden. Members who choose to use a proxy to access the Maple Leaf web risk suspension and or banning. Thanks,

Interview with Liblogs Founder, Jason Cherniak
Greg replied to Greg's topic in News and Announcements
Yes, I noticed, but I'm not overly worried about it. Maple Leaf Web's office is located in the Political Science Department of the University of Lethbridge. We could argue about the definition of "with" till we're blue in the face, but I've always been clear about the relationship between MLW and the University of Lethbridge. The University is a major partner with Maple Leaf Web. They provide a gift-in-kind donation of office space, network access and certain administrative functions. I'm not sure what you mean by "financial involvement"? However, we've had this discussion before Bluth and it's quite clear you have no intention on listening to what I have to say in relation to the Universities involvement with Maple Leaf Web. So I suggest you cease making comments about this issue, so as to avoid confusing others about a topic you clearly do not understand. -
Interview with Liblogs Founder, Jason Cherniak
Greg replied to Greg's topic in News and Announcements
No, you didn't miss it because I never asked for any questions from the forum members. I was only planning on giving the option for forum members to submit questions when the interviewee was a high profile individual - i.e. media personality, national or provincial politicians, etc. However, I will do my best to keep everyone involved in future interviews, Thanks -
For those of you who follow the partisan blogosphere in Canada, you might be interested in an interview I did with partisan blogger and founder of Liblogs, Jason Cherniak. I have a few more interviews with high profile bloggers in the queue, so please stay tuned. Also, if you have any suggestions for interviews you'd like to see, make sure to contact me. You can read the interview here, and read Jason's weblog, Cherniak on Politics, here.

Thanks for pointing that out. The error has been corrected. -
It took longer than expected, but I think it was worth the wait. The interview can be seen here: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/interviews/maj...e-ret-interview Thanks for everyone who submitted questions. Because it was a telephone interview, it was difficult to include many of the questions that were submitted. However, everyone's contribution certainly helped me direct the interview, and I think you'll agree, General Mackenzie had some very interesting things to say. Feel free to include your comments about the interview in this thread,

Determining whether or not someone is being disrespectful can be difficult, and Charles and I spend a lot of time and thought before ever removing anyone from these forums. However - you must realize - if I were to suspend everyone that was disrespectful to [insert name] this forum would be a lonely place. I'm not sure I would call MLW a product of a Canadian University. The University of Lethbridge is a major partner in the creation of MLW, not the sole driving factor behind the site.

As long as you attribute the quotation to the proper author I see no problem. It's helpful to provide a link, but that is not always possible. The rules surrounding the proper usage of quotations were designed to (1) protect copyright and (2) ensure a high level of readability in terms of the forum postings and threads. I do not prune forum threads, postings or forum registrations.

Nope. Charles and I discuss everything relating to these forums. Including any moderator actions that result in suspensions, bannings, thread mergers, deletions, etc. I have full confidence in Charles.

I'm from Alberta, but I've never moderated any other forum other Maple Leaf Web. I'm glad you find these forums inviting, Thanks

Multiple concurrent discussions will be merged
Greg replied to ScottSA's topic in Support and Questions
That is ridiculous. Merging a thread, which needed to be merged, is not a form of censorship. Charles has explained his actions and I agree and support everything he did. -

Complete hardware upgrade and a migration of the server to a new data center. Everything went really well, except for a slight error with the MySQL character sets for the drupal database - which I'm now trying to fix.

Thanks for your patience, Everything should be back to normal. If you encounter any errors, please contact me.

I've had to move the time up to 3pm (MST) today for the outage. Again, sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks

Interview with Senate Speaker, Noël A. Kinsella
Greg replied to Greg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
This is your last day to submit a question to the Speaker of the Senate... -
The interview was a big success. You can read the whole interview here: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/interviews/sen...sella-interview Thanks to those of you who submitted questions. Questions by August1991 and Capricorn were included in the questions I asked the Speaker. Please stay tuned for the interview with former General Lewis McKenzie. That particular interview was considerably longer and it is taking awhile to get it ready for publishing, Thanks!

Interview with Major General (Ret) Lewis Mackenzie
Greg replied to Greg's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Either or is fine. In future interview question requests, you'll likely only be able to post a question through the weblog. The reason for this slight change since the last interview request, is that I want to involve more than just the forum members. -
Interview with Major General (Ret) Lewis Mackenzie
Greg posted a topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Mapleleafweb is scheduled to do an interview with Major General (Ret.) Lewis Mackenzie, former Canadian Armed Forces general and writer. We are providing visitors (and forum members) the opportunity to submit potential questions to General Mackenzie. The topic of the interview will be general military affairs and issues relating to Canada's role as a peace-keeper. Your questions can be emailed directly to me, or you can post the questions in this weblog posting. To post your questions in the weblog post, you will need to register or login. Note: Your forum registration info will NOT work when making comments on weblog postings. Unfortunately, the forums and the weblog registration system are not completely integrated - I'm working on it!!! In the mean time, you'll need to register twice - once here and once for the weblog. Your questions can be submitted until Wednesday, January 23rd, after which I will select three (or more) interesting questions and include them in the batch asked to General Mackenzie. The interview will appear in the Interviews section of Mapleleafweb. Any off-topic or disrespectful postings or questions in weblog thread (or this forum thread) will be deleted. -
That's a good thing. I just wish you would have spent a bit more time considering whether you should openly argue about the placement of this silly/off-topic thread.
