It saddens me much that being given the privilege to use the eyes and the brain, for free too you chose, voluntarily and deliberately, to abandon them by repeating the dumbest coin phrase, thoughtlessly rather than use your own eyes and so on. Just look, history made it easy for you (and the likes of you): you don't have to do extensive research, sit in libraries, look for and extract hidden knowledge. All has just played before your eyes, sadly, to little avail: 1. The political system, detached from the reality of the society experiences inevitable decay and corruption, including moral, of principles and values. 2. Authoritarian cult takes over one of the two default "parties". Some morally corrupt politicians (see p.1) see nothing wrong with cooperating with it for own gain. 3. It lies its way to the power and that spells the end of democracy. Any normal political entity is bound to observe and follow some minimal standard of truth and objectivity. Obviously the cult has no such limits. It can spell, spread and repeat any lie including most outrageous ones. This creates an uneven playing field and so it eventually lies its way to the near-absolute power. A logical, mathematical proof that binary political system will end democracy. Just verified in practice, real life right before your eyes. Sadly, to no avail.

John McCain's secretary gave the best answer to it: "we didn't realize that our system of checks depended so much on the character..." They didn't, really? In two centuries, and counting years to a century after Nazi? This is the dumbest, glaring oversight one could have imagined: you design a wondersome blueprint with all kind of sophisticated mechanisms and functions. And then you say, it's functioning, the switch button depends on two hundred or so fingers. Names, in a well known list. Now Hitler's goons a century back figured out quite easily how to make a hundred or so fingers sign and/or push whatever they needed. It's no mystery, did you know? And now the fate of democracy itself is bound to them because there's nothing else between them and the absolute power. How much more dumb, careless and irresponsible can it be? The binary system is a danger to democracy. With time, it will run it into the ground. The only question is, how many more cycles do we have for a meaningful change.

This is an example that with just words anything can be explained and rationalized away. Hitler, his wars, his mass killings again: any-thing. More than words is needed to keep this menace at bay and one particular group: the Republicans, failed it miserably forget all the great words they spoke and signed. They embraced the evil cheerfully and gleefully. They saw and see nothing wrong with it, and are proud of it. Just as it happened the last time: zero essential difference. A despicable miserable goo to which a formerly proud pillar of democracy has collapsed. Empty walking shells with no morality or integrity left inside ready to reshape themselves to any new call and agenda. Miserable and despicable, what other words could history find to address them? But this time, they knew everything. There will be none, zero escapes and excuses.

Reuters: Trump administration disbands task force targeting Russian oligarchs To drop all pretenses and keep no illusions: this is material, de facto help to the worst criminal aggressor in Europe since Hitler. Hidden behind the barrage of chaos: but no one can claim just an innocent coincidence. It has begun. Ask yourselves: if Vlad's buddies or/and puppets will come to control America, would it stop in Ukraine? Where would this world end, and we aren't even talking global warming next century but in several years (1933 - 1939)? The Republicans who acquitted the criminal are either quislings or traitors. No innocence, a century on and in such matters. They completely and cheerfully abandoned their constitutional duty to the country and the people and will be despised and regarded with dismay and contempt by generations. No coming back from this shame. The regular folk who fooled themselves into showing or making a point to someone somewhere repeated the same mistake as those in 1933 Germany. No games with this evil, no explanations: it will take all. And the fate of democracy in America, never been this unclear and uncertain. No formal processes will restore the confidence, moral and leadership standing, past this point. We'll just have to see, can American society renew its commitment to democracy - or it did it end right here.

The criticism expressed not only in words. One case of stagnating elites caused the most destructive war in the history. The next one can be developing before our eyes and can have dire and unpredictable consequences. Most top-down systems in the world are authoritarian, oligarchical or dictatorial. Your claim is factually false. The renewal of the federal political system needs to begin with a move to proportional representation. There are federal states in the democratic world (Germany is one example) so regional balancing isn't a show stopper. Proportional means that a party gets the same quote of representatives as its share of the vote. If we mean what is said (free elections and fair representation) this is the only way it could work. Every vote counts. There will be more parties. The role of the incumbents will diminish. Alliances and coalitions of smaller parties will keep governments in check. Countless administrative privileges, prorogations, prerogatives will become a thing of the past. This agenda is urgent and unavoidable if in this country we do not want to follow in the steps of our neighbor who is leaving the democracy space.

The first part we discussed to boring death and yes it will work in the Canadian context just like in fifty or so other national developed democracy contexts in the world. The second we discussed also: governments cannot be ruled by groups (or gangs) that pretend to have an absolute majority and mandate while in fact they didn't earn anything like it. They will need to cooperate with other parties to govern and those parties will keep the government in check and transparent. As is the case in every single first world democracy these days, other than the two last exceptions.

The converted: truth doesn't exist. Whatever the Fuhrer said in his last speech makes the truth. If it contradicts the one before it, it's the new truth and the old one never happened. The meek ones: please don't overreact. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad. But look there are positive sides too. OK it's bad but we have nothing to do with it, it'll pass by somehow. Just believe that nothing bad can happen. The first drive the thrust, the latter enable it with passivity and readiness to accept and explain away anything. When these groups reach sufficient faction of the population, democracy and the rule of law make an exit. A dire reminder to all of us who value and want to keep it.
-
Seriously? All of the democratic world uses proportional system these days. There are exactly two exceptions (as the U.S. is moving out of the democracy range). But one is a really unique case (Great Britain/UK), thought it's feeling it too. And that leaves exactly one, single case in the entire first world, that still uses binary partisan politics in this century.

It's more than that though: it means that they will cross any line now, the conversion from independent observation and processing of the reality to parroting propaganda complete. And it's more scary than funny too because it's 1984 that is a creative analysis of the 1933-1939, and everything that followed. This is all what's needed really. Some will go on to do the physical stuff and the rest, explain it away to the drumming of propaganda. They won't object, that cannot stand to it. Their minds already prepared and converted to follow any directive, however impossible and outright ridiculous. Scary: and right here, not in some funny book.

This is not what was said, and so factually, you are moving beyond the ability to observe events objectively and rationally. I'll do you one last favour by bringing your attention to the fact that these changes in mentality can be difficult to reverse, or in fact irreversible. As many factual examples show, of course.

What he wanted to achieve is pretty clear and typical of clueless bullies: to make an example of presumably, weaker and more dependent members of the community so that the rest would fall in line whenever he points his fat finger to. The stupid gamble misfired big deal and straight into the std face, as below

There's nothing wrong with a reasonable discussion in a grown up democratic society about the use of guns and prevention of gun violence. Massive propaganda by big buck has little to do with concerns about democracy or freedoms and often went and goes against the interests of the society. The examples are so common that only seriously impaired in all abilities or deliberately dumb wouldn't see or couldn't get it.
-
It is true that binary political system is obsolete in this century, cannot serve complex interests of a modern society and is now an imminent danger to democracy. It is also true that both parties have been complicit in keeping it in place and intact, to extract numerous advantages for their partisan and/or individual gain over and at the expense of the interests of the society. Yet, there's only one party that can claim the infamy and dishonor of being the party of the Lying !diot. That record is already written into the history and nothing can erase or change it, now.

You see how it ends. And you walked a good part of the way right there. It's no good, you see? This path will lead you to the condition that you would despise and ridicule now, but you wouldn't know and won't care to notice. It can happen and happens right now, see? No idols and elites. Everyone knows everything and is an equal member of the team: intelligent, conscious and free. No questions which cannot be asked. No leaders who couldn't or shouldn't be challenged. Full transparency and accountability. No elites: shared principles and common goals. No elites: the best candidate/team is supported and wins, not the ones with the most power and deepest pockets. You see how it ends: the rot, the corruption, the stink? Yes you can get there too. It isn't even that far, from here. The time for the renewal is now. Only the matter of remembering who you are and respecting yourself. And yes, gaining the right to be in the future.

Only just yesterday, the majority of public Republicans wholeheartedly supported the tariffs: the exceptions can be counted on one hand and today, they are up and marching happily in the opposite direction. What a sad parody of the former self. They are ridiculously pathetic only a tiny tad more than their great Clown Leader. But from this sh*t, there will be no coming back to the normal world they know that, surely? Who in the right state of mind and conscience could ever respect and trust, that?

Canada Victory in Trump Tariff War!
myata replied to godzilla's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Dumb to the core pathetic sucker. A joke before the whole world. Now taking America with him to his funny land. What "checks and balances"? Where? -
And its not the touted and louded now past and bygone "checks and balances". Big buck cannot suffer, that was the real motto and what other "God" is here? It's official too bad about the democracy but we're past that, no need to pretend and nothing to be ashamed of. Good luck to the fantasy fathers and John you sure had a great dream it was funny, for a while. But back to business now.

Yes because I have the eyes of my own, I read the history and I trust myself to judge the events when and as I see them. Whether it was intended as the thing, the Nazi salute we will never know because only one person knows it and he cannot be trusted. But yes, true it looked terribly close to that thing. This is what I saw with my eyes and this is my judgement on the matter. If you're past that ability, to see with your eyes and judge with your own brain so be it and good luck in the endeavours.
