A deafening silence of the Democrat establishment on aggressive escapades of the new Commander in Chief in Greenland and Panama is a troubling and disappointing sign of a total and accomplished collapse of the integrity and morality in the entire political system. They'd rather pretend that nothing is happening than risk uttering a word of truth. Any and all self-serving calculations and machinations will misfire terribly: history tells us that very clearly. These things need to be resisted upfront, immediately and decisively. Other options: plain corrupt; or complicit. That's just too bad for America. Where could the path back to normality be? Who will walk it?

It's closed because there can be no intelligent discussion with a recording: it doesn't change regardless of any input from the reality, no matter what is fed into it it produces the same tone. That theoretically eliminates any logical point of trying to talk to it. Proven, mathematically: no difference. Your unproven assumption that ideological overreach of the left was the only or the main cause of the antidemocratic and anti-rule-of-law, all factual, backlash were countered with provable arguments. The assault on the rule of law, the democracy and the factual reality itself is real and possibly, unprecedented in history. Still you're replaying the same polarization tune to boring end. So, concluded indeed. Only to add that there are users here who having exhibited this pattern of behavior repeatedly or always I just don't bother to notice. What would be the point of attempting a dialogue with a tree or a wall? None: a perfect zero, logically.

Objectively and factually, these actions cannot be qualified by anything less serious than a deliberate assault on democracy. What political system, one of the main constitutional functions and obligations of which was to prevent exactly this kind of threats decided to play along like nothing much is happening is simply mindboggling. Only another proof that without constant and diligent attention by the society, reasonable and responsible citizens any political system would fold onto itself and abandon its duties and obligations to the society.

There are different constituent parts of that polarization and they need to be talked about openly and clearly. Yes there was an overreach in drive by certain groups calling themselves progressive to impose their views and ideologies on the rest of the society. A part of well-meaning public was pulled along and another part just complied. These issues were raised and they were discussed by the sane, objective observers. There was a pushback, including in the legal system where it retained impartiality. There's no denying it. And it's not all there's to it. The second part is a mud-stirring, nihilistic and populist drive to deny everything, every foundation of democracy including the obligation to be honest, the rule of law, responsibility for actions and results. The underlying motive is very clear for the centuries this method exist: to install control over the society via confusion, fear and division. There's nothing innocent about these actions, it's a deliberate assault, conspiracy to subvert democracy. And yes, recently a faction of large capital seems to have decided that it doesn't need to pay even lip service to democracy and can simply throw a lot of dough to control the mind of the pueblo directly through lies and propaganda. Thinking and responsible democratic society cannot ignore these threats. There needs to be regulation to bring back responsibility for the veracity of the content. Simply, one cannot feed lies to other people, where they haven't explicitly agreed to it, without any responsibility. And we need to see and call any such attempt for what it is: a reach for power, eventually if not checked, authoritarian and dictatorial. These aren't just innocent "freedom of speech" games history shows it very clearly.

American political system, if not the society in general (I couldn't comment in general but there were some significant protests) appears to be paralyzed; in a deep scared slumber; and totally unprepared to deal with this challenge, one of the main reasons it was created for, to safeguard the foundations of democracy and the rule of law. Looks like an accomplished failure, on both sides and regardless of ideology. Paralysis, ostrich syndrome in the face of a present and grave danger. Please don't wake us up it's so cozy here. Can't be good.

American public interest could overcome (after a long struggle) the mob but couldn't touch the big money. That was the downfall of the democracy. This is the real conflict and stark reality of today's America: not toy Democrats against toy Republicans. Not even immigration. It's the political systems that's almost entirely, 90-95-99% owned and run by the big dough. Make a simple experiment: propose to make basic medications affordable. Possible? Sure, any number of countries have it. Makes sense? Ask any average citizen in the street. Urgent? Ask grandma on a pension. Now, forget Republicans how many representative Democrats would be interested? Let's see it, the number. Wouldn't it tell everything?

"We'll invade Panama!" "Let's invade and/or press Denmark!". Any reaction? Do you hear anything? A total debilitating silence, interrupted only by the scratching pen in "confirmations". Nothing much is happening here, only business as usual. The future is assured and guaranteed, you know. What future? American politics is detached and gone way too far from the reality whatever is happening in it. There's always the next session and the procedure why bother. Democracy is dying by entropy and boredom. To recite the old dusty books, yes this is exactly how it happened the last time it's testing you and the society you give it a bite and it'll come for the next? You aren't bored? But who is dumb or is it failing memory to read to? Or is it the dough flowing in the pocket, important responsibility and procedures no time to distract to such trivialities? More examples: but sure. Illegal immigration, school and mass shootings, astronomical cost of medications, big money and politics. In a sane prosperous society one of the richest on this planet, are these - all and together, impossible, intractable problems that just couldn't be approached, in decades? Unlikely, because there's a simpler answer also confirmed by objective evidence: they, not the abstract "man" but the political system and the big capital that pretty much runs it don't need these solutions, rational, effective and practical. It works much better for it as it is: one side crying and hugging immigrants, the other chastising and chasing them and in the result, nothing changing, for decades and generations. It, the system has degraded to the final stage of the functional decay and cannot produce working solutions, only perpetual bureaucratic motion. At this stage, I wouldn't be surprised if Democrat representatives (we already know about Republican) wouldn't even understand the question: look but we're doing something, working! Here's the protocol and the procedure! What reality? And not a single high-speed train. In the 21st century. The richest country on the planet. What hope remains, I can't tell. A new generation of leaders, in a coalition with the thinking and responsible part of the society speaking to it openly and honestly about its real and pressing problems? Committing to eliminating undue influence of the big money where it seeks to go counter to the interests of the society and do actual harm? A drastic overhaul of legislation to bring the price of basic medications to that in the other civilized countries, despite cries of doom and horror from the billionaire quarters? I couldn't tell what could be the chance of that. But what else? Is there such magic, anywhere in this universe? And for the rest of us, a stark and pressing reminder: democracy cannot be abandoned to carefree laziness, indifference and fatigue. It will leave and there will be no one to stick the finger to. The destination on that path is always the same: oligarchy; third world; dictatorship; fascism. We will not find any new ends and/or answers down there.

While one party took America over the final degradation of principle in the politics into the third world, both parties are complicit in the decay and near-total detachment from the reality. The game, process is more important than the reality. No one in the formal politics left standing for what's right. Total, debilitating silence. That's what a final, accomplished degradation looks like, doesn't it? No cheers.

So when you want something from your allies you drive to their home with a machine gun and threaten to shoot, in the quest for understanding and harmony? That make you who, by the factual definition? Remember the p-word? Look in the mirror before you're carried too far in understanding of insanity and fascism (ironic, no)?

OK I'll try to be very patient here.. we have here a fat stupid bozo, ostensibly a CnC of the United States of whatever threatening and shouting at a leader of an allied nation, a founding partner of NATO. On a stupidest pretext that can be imagined and then some. A lady as well. This is all fine with your code of honor, wherever it is? I do sympathize if you come from difficult situations and hard places. If so, let's just end it here. If the allies cannot come to understanding about a thing this obvious, what's left there to talk about.
-
All of the above (which we don't have now) escaped you somehow? For the privilege to pay 5 to 10 times more for basic medications (and still about a hundred less than in the States). I rest my case then. No it's not a given, won't fall from the sky instantly. But it's a design, blueprint know how. If we follow through, intelligently and diligently sure we can have it or close why wouldn't we?

I visited and worked in Europe and don't care about ideological scares there's all kind of crap for those looking for it. No it's not perfect but here are the staples that you can simply expect across the continent, except maybe in the newest members: - Great public transit - Great food and very affordable too. I have a shock every time I go to a mediocre place with an astronomical bill. 10-15 Euro can buy you a great lunch in most places with a drink too. - High speed trains are common across the continent. 200 km in just over an hour (compare Ottawa to Montreal). - Great road infrastructure. - Free mobility across the Union, to work, live and study. - In many places, low cost or free university education. - You feed absolutely safe in most places I visited. Not a shred of fear for personal safety. - Cheap medications even without insurance one can literally not think about the cost. Yes it's not like a free gift but it's a know how to build societies with more equal and shared quality of life and prosperity. Or we can have trillionaires pumping into our ears while its so great and important for us to pay for their outrageous profits and that's the only way it can be.

I don't understand why Democrats seem to be shrugging it off like some silly joke? Is playing the game more important to them than defending the principles at this watershed moment when a budding dictator is testing the grounds for future transgression? Are they so deep into it that couldn't wake up no matter what and will be sleepwalking all the way to the disaster?

You don't know who my rivals are and clearly weren't paying any attention. Repeating same stuck track won't get you much attention, from me at least. Point closed. "Enjoying discomfort", at the cost of doing away with the democracy and rule of law? The word is "stupidity". No one to flaunt it to, no one to impress or will be. Just dumb and stupid, for all it's worth. And sure will come back with a good, hefty price tag. Be happy this one time to squeeze back to normality somehow, but not guaranteed and not by far.
