  1. Skyrocketing salaries? Many teachers in BC have to et summer jobs to pay the bills.
  2. They should come from increased corporate tax rates. Not phony donations where the corporation wants something in return.
  3. Neoliberalism is like a cancer of communities. It encourages individuals to pursue their own interests while ignoring the consequences.

Simply, yes. Let wing governments have compassion and care about the little guy.

And with left wing governments, we'll all be the little guy.

  4. It's everyone's duty to pay for public education. Pub;lic education is a benefit to all and is needed for democracy.
  5. Have nothing? You think Chevron has the right to advertise in public schools while brainwashing kids? Would you be happy if tobacco companies donatd money in public schools and placed their banners in the classroom?
  6. Anyone who advocates for charter schools is anti-democracy. BTW, charter schools have been a massive failure in the US.
  7. Public funding, not corporate marketing. Second story. Thank goodness the BCTF is standing up for children and public education and democracy. http://www.bctf.ca/publications/BCTFNews-web.aspx?id=36006#2
  8. This is what Chevron in the classroom looks like. Disgusting! http://ow.ly/i/7zjU3

But Neo could dodge bullets in slow mo...that was cool.

  10. Not on Canadian politics.
  11. This discussion is useless. I predicted a Liberal majority in 2015 a long time and I'm sticking to it. There won't be a need to merge. JT will be the world's next great progressive leader. Many NDPers will flock to JT. Just watch and see.
  12. How can you say that? There would be many strings attached.
  13. The Vancouver School Board has shown some fortitude and has said no to Chevron trying to influence public schools. It's too bad other districts accepted the money. Raise the corporate tax rates and have these corporations pay their fair share. http://www.ctvnews.ca/canada/school-board-rejects-chevron-funding-fuels-election-controversy-1.2089419 http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Vancouver+School+Board+rejects+corporate+funding+accepted+Surrey/9602342/story.html
  14. Funding public education is too important to depend upon donations.

That's probably why its not funded through donations

Is that why all public schools do incessant fund raising?

So you're saying public education is funded through donations? I didn't know that. That being so I want a whole bunch of money back from the government.

  17. This shows the assault on teachers in Canada. Are you anti-teacher? If yes, then you are anti-democracy. http://www.teachersolidarity.com/list/CA
  18. For all you non-teachers out there, I can simply say teachers are under heavy scrutiny. Who cares that we have a hundred things on our plate each and every day. This thread reminds me of how teacher unions and other public sector unions are under attack from certain governments, especially in BC and Saskatchewan. It's not my fault as a teacher that poverty is increasing negatively affecting students. How can I teach hungry kids who don't even have their most basic human rights met. The attacks on teachers and unions are not about educational reform, but turning the teaching profession into a service industry. http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/cifamerica/2011/feb/04/usdomesticpolicy-schools
  19. What are the basics? It isn't 1950 anymore, in case you are unaware.

They're not your kids to play with. Have your own, if you can find anyone willing to breed with a fictitious character.

  21. Socially active kids understand the injustices of the world. They understand inequality and will work hard for equality. They understand environmental justice so that they will leave a better earth fro coming generations. They know the 1% could care less about them.
  22. Reading comprehension is taught. But maybe you don't realize it but social issues are starting to thankfully take precedent in public schools. Events like WE DAY is great for helping kids to become socially active.

Hey, it's going to be an INCLUSIVE drawing, have no fear

  24. How can you be against inclusiveness? I'm seeing that it will be again the job of the public education system to teach kids what compassion and an inclusive society looks like. We need to use public education to show kids what an inclusive society looks, feels, and sounds like. People don't realize that public education is MUCH more than academics. Changing the world to be more inclusive and to celebrate diversity should become the main goal of public education.
  25. You are misinformed. How can you be against a compassionate, inclusive world?
