  1. Kathleen understands that cuts to public education will lead to higher future debt. Some of you can't see things beyond one day.
  2. Wynne values public education as does the public. That's why voters chose Wynne.
  3. Just because you went to school 20 years ago, it doesn't mean you understand the 21st century public education system.

  4. Who's presently striking? BC teachers fought hard for their learners earlier this year after the courts in BC found the government pulled fast ones on educators. Maybe you missed that, moonbox. Maybe, moonbox, you only choose to hear one side of the argument. Critical thinking skills are needed by many. Here's a little refresher for you. http://www.vancouversun.com/business/Vaughn+Palmer+history+faith+Liberals+dealings+with+teachers/9912106/story.html
  5. That is correct. 50 hour work weeks for educators is low balling. I know most of us put in 70+ hours a week which includes Saturdays and Sundays. Some people, like moonbox and squid have very little understanding of the true nature of being a 21st century educator.
  6. Oh, and by the way, we aren't teachers any more, we are educators. At least get the terminology correct before even attempting to have a debate.
  7. So you are judging an education degree on what some slacker friend of yours says? That's hilarious!
  8. I was right. You said 1/4 of your friends are teachers, thus you have one friend who is a teacher. Too bad your teacher friend is not representative of 99% of teachers. You continue to prove you lack a strong understanding of the teaching profession, like many other "so-called" experts. too many people think that because they once went to school it somehow makes them an expert. You need to be trained properly to teach learners in today's fast paced world. maybe you simply don't understand.
  9. Some people think teachers with masters degrees shouldn't be paid more. Ridiculous!

If the job needs a Masters degree, then the pay should reflect that.

If a specific job doesn't require a Masters, then there shouldn't be extra pay for having one.

A kindergarten teacher with a Masters should receive the same pay as the K teacher without.

Damn that is a good point. Equal work for equal pay.

All my IT certs still only get me 11 bucks at *insert min wage job here*

  10. Are there any other institutions promoting inclusiveness as well as public schools?

  11. You always manage to give me a good chuckle. A masters degree bumps a teacher on the pay scale resulting in a much deserved pay increase. You have one friend in the teaching profession who got in it for the summer holidays? Becoming a teacher takes a minimum of 5 years of hard work. We are also life long learners, always working to improve our classes for our learners. You obviously have very little knowledge of teachers or the public school system. You have a hate on for teachers and it shows.
  12. What exactly do you need a cite for? Are you just trying to play for the few fans?
  13. How can I cite the fact that I network with thousands of teachers? I don't care if you don't believe me. Go to any school and ask how many teachers have masters. Then ask how many are currently working on a masters. Provide your own citations.
  14. Working in the field and networking with teachers across Canada gives me valuable information. There is a big push throughout the nation to push teachers to earn their Masters degree. I know many teachers in my own district, including me, who will earn masters degrees in the next few years. It will result in higher qualified teachers, but the haters will dislike it because a Masters also results in an increase in pay.
  15. Many teachers in Canada are currently working to earn their Masters which many school districts are encouraging. You need to do a little digging.
  16. I answered the question. It's fairly obvious. Public education is the only institution that gives a voice to everyone. Everyone is able to participate and feel like a contributing citizen.
  17. It's not that hard to figure out. Public schools encourage all kids from all walks of life to get involved and have their voices heard. if not for public schools, many kids wouldn't have a chance. maybe you haven't heard of social justice.
  18. Then tell me what it takes to earn a Masters in Education.
  19. The Faculty of Education introdced me to Howard Zinn. What a great thinker. He has greatly influenced me.

I'm not keeping tabs on you. I just remember well.

  20. We teach kids to take an active role in the country and in the world. We are creating global citizens.
  21. It is the duty of all citizens to pay taxes for public education which benefits the collective and promotes democracy.
  22. Most teachers I know are working on a Masters degree. That's spelled M-A-S-T-E-R-S. You have no clue what it takes to become a teacher, so, if I was you, I'd avoid putting a foot in the mouth again.
  23. Private daycares aren't as good as public daycares, so this is good news.
  24. Why do people homeschool? why would anyone want their kids to be socially awkward?

Yes and some have banned gay rights too. Should we follow suit just cause.

I assume that you are a qualified teacher. If you were financially able to home school your child(ren) would you do a better job than the public system?

      I'm qualified. Most parents aren't.

  25. So you are against giving kids a better chance in ,life? That concerns me and that philosophy represents the neo-liberal agenda of keeping the little guy down. Anyone who thinks full day kindergarten is baby sitting should have his head examined. Walk into any kindergarten room and you will see solid learning happening. But I can see how the uneducated wouldn't understand that.
