  1. You seriously have no understanding of modern public education. There is absolutely no point in talking about education with you. None whatsoever.
  2. I argue because I have critical thinking skills. I don't get lost in the phony left/right paradigm that many ideologues on this forum do.
  3. Arithmetic is nothing but rote memorization. Arithmetic skills can be punched on a smartphone. Collaboration skills need to be developed in the classroom.
  4. I would like to see a specific category for Public Education. Public education is too important to not have it's own category.
  5. I forgot the E. That is a typo. You don't know the difference between tale and tail. That is a lack of knowledge of the English language. Also, as I highlighted above, "your" should have been "you're", because what you were trying to say was, "you are". And good luck to you too, buddy!
  6. This is for people who don't understand public education in the 21st century. We are beyond the 3 Rs. We need to use the four Cs and especially collaboration to prepare students to become members of a global society. Those of you who may not know how much things have changed in education would benefit the most from reading this excellent paper produced by the NEA, the largest teachers' union in the United States. I hope this helps some of you. http://www.nea.org/assets/docs/A-Guide-to-Four-Cs.pdf
  7. What's a fairy tail? Or did you mean tale? Good bleeping grief.
  8. It amazes me that so many here don't understand the importance of teaching students to collaborate. Collaboration is probably the most important aspect of public education. Kids sit in groups and collaborate, sharing ideas, respecting diversity. It is the 21st century, people.

All the simple minded can do is make inane jokes.

  9. Because proper collectivism has not been implemented. The youth is slowly starting to see the benefits of a collective society.
  10. You liked it because it is nothing more than right-wing nonsense. However, it does show that the right is only concerned with individual greed and wealth with no compassion for the collective society that inclusive public education promotes.
  11. Here is the work of a great teacher and a great thinker who taught a class about privilege. I'm happy to hear that whit privilege is becoming a very important topic in social justice. Things like this give me hope against all the greed and corruption. http://www.buzzfeed.com/nathanwpyle/this-teacher-taught-his-class-a-powerful-lesson-about-privil
  12. Support public education for the good of the public.

No Capt. Canada. The public education system promotes collaboration to teach kids to think critically. It's the 4 Cs of 21st Century Skills. Try reading up on it.

  13. Personally, I could care less what anyone believes about me.

Beware sharkman overthere and Mighty AC! Your attempt to ridicule another posters understanding of the English language has exposed your own frailty of comprehending linguistics!

  14. Because I desire to promote a fair, inclusive society where diversity is tolerated and celebrated. That's why.
  15. Good post. Teachers have one of the most difficult jobs out there and I think they should be paid on par with pharmacists and accountants, and slightly below doctors.
  16. I can choose to get my full salary over 10 months. Then I would not receive my deferred salary in the summer.
  17. I fell on the floor laughing after reading this uninformed post. Summer off? No. Teachers spend a good chunk of summer preparing for the next year and gathering new resources to be used in the classroom. We are constantly looking for things that will benefit our learners. Many of us take extra courses to complete a Masters in Education. Also, we are not paid for the summer. We can choose to have our salary paid for 10 months or have some clawed back so we receive a check during summer months. But we don't get paid for July and August. The hard work we do in the summer is unpaid volunteer work for the benefit of our learners. 2 weeks at Christmas. Yes we get two weeks paid vacation? Find a profession that doesn't . 6 Hours a day. This was very funny. All teachers I know are in school for 8 hours a day. Many coach and run clubs after school (unpaid). Then we go home and mark and prepare lessons for the next day. 10-12 hour days are the norm for teachers. But some people. think we start at 9 and end at 3. That is totally wrong. Then we have to deal with all kinds of issues. Look at this poster If you want to understand what a teacher deals with every day. This poster should be hung everywhere so people can begin to understand what the job of an educator entails. http://busyteacher.org/6967-poster-im-so-much-more-than-just-a-teacher.html
  18. Yes, but many CPC seats will be red after next election. The Liberals have made huge gains in all the by-elections, including those in CPC strongholds. Trudeau is open and transparent and honest. The general public appreciates that and considers it a breath of fresh air.
  19. If you want teachers to work another 60 days a year, then their salaries will need to rise.
  20. How much would it cost to increase the school year?
  21. You're right. Christmas has been replaced by winter holidays as public schools promote inclusiveness. I suppose you have a problem with that.
  22. What are you talking about. Education is no longer a game of trivial pursuit. Knowing the capital of NB does not help me think critically. I don't need to collaborate to find out the capital of NB. Collaboration and critical thinking are 2 Cs of 21st Century Skills. Yes, it is the 21st Century.
  23. This is absolutely disgusting. Some of you who laugh and mock me about neo-liberalism need to read this to understand what is happening behind the scenes. If you read this, you should be truly disgusted as I am. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/07/16/koch-brothers-education_n_5587577.html?utm_hp_ref=tw
  24. Your point is correct. We see eye to eye on education issues. Why in the world would I need to memorize the capital of New Brunswick or even the geography of New Brunswick if I can just google it on my smartphone?
  25. Why on earth would you want to cut money from education when education is already underfunded? Honestly some of the nonsense I read here gives me the shivers.
