I hate to tell you but there are middle class in CA. You are focusing on San Francisco proper, Marin County, and and Los Angeles. The housing in these areas is horribly expensive because of high paying technology jobs. Those who work in the technology sector in San Francisco and the Silicon Valley can easily afford $4000 to rent a 2 bed room apt. Average salary for a programmer at Google.. $195K per year. No, no one is exempt from the state income taxes but there are plenty of average, middle class people in CA.. if not then feel free to explain how places like Susanville, Weed, Alturas, Quincy, and Yreka can exist and be so average.

The benefits of colonialism
impartialobserver replied to I am Groot's topic in Moral & Ethical Issues
I read recently that the president of Rwanda or Burundi made a speech and he said ( I am paraphrasing), "Yes, they did terrible things. They came to our land and conquered us. However, that is the past. We need to move towards a time where we have no foreign aid, no foreign investors, and are sustaining ourselves." I would wholly agree with this. You can't go forward if you are always looking in the rearview mirror. -
Trump is Heading to Prison
impartialobserver replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Have read something like this at least 1,000 times and yet nothing has ever actually happened. Hmmm... I think that certain types can not delineate perception and reality. -
As long as someone does it legally.. i do not care who emigrates to the US. Also, I do not believe that they are any more likely to be criminals than the average American. Growing up, I would help out Grandma's friends who were potato farmers. Extremely Conservative area (Idaho Falls, Rigby, Rexburg) and yet they openly would tell me about how they intentionally sought illegals. The illegals that I worked next to were not there by accident. Another observation that has resonated since that time (early 90's).... none of them cared one iota about American politics. What did we talk about.. girls, mexico, soccer, beer, sex, food... not a single syllable about politics (mexican or American) but they come here solely to vote.

If you are ever so masochistic.. go over to liberalforum.net and check out the user that goes by the name, "FOS". He is convinced that every problem in the history of the world is tied to Jews. Interestingly enough, he is frequently unemployed and lives in Atlanta, GA yet Jews are to blame for that as well.

I will bet you money that you will respond.. your insecurity and obsession prevent you from doing so. You cherry pick one example of many... Harvard is not the only school that offers a masters or phd in economics.. If you were less passion and more rational.. you would know this. Can I let you in on a little secret.. when I talk about x and you chime in about topic y... I lose respect for you. Its not bullying.. not even close. You show your true character by always going off into the woods and not staying on topic. I did not go to Harvard.. where I attended grad school, we focused on math/statistics not sustainability, marx, socialism.. none of that. Each one below relied on models, math, statistics, statistical theory. The exams were not essays... they were doing mathematical proofs My courses were Game Theory Time Series Analysis (Stats 705) advanced microeconomics I and II advanced macroeconomics I and II Econometrics Economics of Gambling Public Finance (probably the most complex math of all these) Psychology behind Economics (a lot of statistical theory) Math Modeling Environmental Economics Math in Economics

Trump was just the victim of bad luck. If the pandemic hits in Jan 2021 and not 2020.. the economic metrics for his time would be mostly very positive. However, I am not one that ties my personal or local economic fortunes to that of the President. If my life is not good during president X.. the reason for that not-so-great life is 100% me.

any society where there are public goods such police, fire dept, public parks, public fireworks displays, national parks, etc.. could be construed as socialist.

Well, that is not playing out in these small towns in the Eastern part of the state. My grandparents generation has died off.. my parents generation is not moving to take their place. And then as a result.. my generation is not moving from the mid-size city to Challis, ID for example. It is interesting how the locals both love and hate the population decline. Yes, they get left alone but as the population declines further.. the businesses/services go away also.

It is just an observation. Does it get me worked up? not in the least. When I go back home to Idaho and hit the small towns and here sentiments like this... I just tune it out and move on. Most of these small towns are in decay.. losing population, losing jobs, and losing income. The older folks pass away, the kids move away, and these places are forgotten.
