  1. And maybe they should be more inclusive... When the local diner goes out of business due the owner simply not wanting to do it anymore and that business is legally taken over and changed to Mexican... how is that the decay of a town? A true sign of decay would the restaurant staying vacant. As for the legal business owner being Mexican.. tell me how they control this? I just find it contradictory to supposedly be all about freedom but when a US citizen legally assumes ownership, pays the fees, gets the permits.. that is decay. Yes, Coeur D'Alene is gorgeous. It gets a bad rap for being some haven of white supremacy. I was there in 2006 or so when they were having their Aryan Nations parade. It was quite the event.. the crowd was maybe 20 to 25 and the folks in the parade... Two men and one pulling a dog in a wagon. most of the spectators were there to see how pathetic this was.
  2. If you use a modeling software package, how you would do this is as follow You have an outcome (y). This could/would be GDP, GDP Growth, Per capital GDP, personal income, or whatever. You would set a value for this and then population/demographics would be independent variables on the right hand side. It would solve for this population number.. to achieve x amount of growth of GDP, you need a population growth of 2.4% (just a random number) and given existing empirical data.. this growth would be comprised of so many immigrants and so on.
  3. Interesting question. Not sure I know the answer. Could use a statistical modeling software like IMPLAN or REMI but that does not factor in subjectivity and such. Basically, you would decide an outcome and it solves the equation. Deciding that outcome.. the definition of subjective.
  4. care to guess where this photo was taken?
  5. no. Dad was from Eastern Idaho, the product of a frenchman and a mother that was Irish (7 generations removed). Most of the conservatives that I have encountered pine for the old school diner.. mexican, chinese, indian restaurants are inherently viewed as the decay of their once-perfect town.
  6. What about you? Growing up.. our cuisine was one of very little spice and flavor. When I moved out of the house... I discovered what garlic was.
  7. On the converse.. just because someone hires a black person does not mean that it was due to affirmative action or social justice. We recently hired 3 hispanic males, 1 african American female, 1 Indian (subcontinent) male, and one Turkish female. First, we have a hard and fast requirement of the Bachelors of Science in Economics. Honestly, the time for this has passed. We need programming skills more than any knowledge of price elasticity of demand, Marx, or General Equilibrium. So before they ever appear on our radar.. they have to have that degree. Second, they have to have 2 years of applicable work experience.. as to what qualifies for this? Again, this is very rigid and spelled out. Finally, we have had a severe lack of candidates applying. The white candidates have had countless chances to apply and yet do not. There is no social justice or affirmative action occurring here so why are they not even applying let alone interviewing? Answer is simple.. relatively low salary.
  8. Close but not quite. Beef instead of pork. To each their own but he could have eaten this meal.. chicken fried steak, eggs sunny side up, and mashed potatotes with butter every meal, every day, and never grown tired of it. I need vastly more variety than that.
  9. I know that you will not answer it honestly. However, I can try. Why do you insist on responding to me? I NEVER respond to you without you initiating it. There is a reason... its quite simple. I do not care that you took your first breath this morning let alone anything that you say. And yet this yappy Chihahua has to follow me around... why the need for my approval?
  10. Or as I have pointed out.. there is more to this story. The type of people that will willingly subject themselves to the rigor of economics at the grad school are very few. The small sample size makes generalization not so easy.
  11. Simple tastes... I guess it works. My dad was one of simple tastes... chicken fried steak, eggs sunny side up, and mashed potatotes with butter. His racism when it came to food was pretty evident. If it even looked Asian.. it was a no go. "No China man chow for me".. not even rice. Only spice that came to his plate was pepper and that only came with his chicken fried steak.
  12. If indie rock is in your wheelhouse then Broken Social Scene's You Forget it in People is the gold standard. Another Canadian band. If you really get looking.. there is a lot of outstanding rock/pop music that comes from Canada.
  13. When I say native born Americans, I was referring to the three white males that were born in nevada or Idaho.
  14. In grad school for economics, we had a cohort of 18 students.. 3 white americans of which I was one of them. the 15 non-americans blew us out of the water when it came to the advanced math. The three guys bonded in misery. Spending hour after hour slaving away on differential equations, complex calculus, and matrices. The others would breeze through it in an hour.. So I could use that very limited sample size to say that whites are not as advanced. I could.. but anyone with an ounce of intellect knows that there needs to be more information.
  15. This is a troll thread. There is a lot of context needed to make the argument in the OP really make any sense.
  16. Well, at least the food tastes good in hell. Roasting the chiles prior to making a black mole... put that on anything and I will eat it.
  17. On the topic of Mexican food.. I would be up a creek if I could not eat mexican food. We have some sort of mexican inspired dish 3 or 4 nights per week. Mole, Posole, Tamales, Queso Fundido, Salsa Verde, El Pastor, Mexican Chorizo.. such yumminess.
  18. Its rather simple.. I treat everyone the same until at which time they cross the line. Cross the line would be harming me in some way or them committing a crime out in the open. If they leave me alone.. I leave them alone.
  19. As for myself.. I am a die hard sports fan. The outside noise (kneeling, confederate flags, etc. ) does not deter me in the least. I actually care about the game itself and the narratives (first time in a super bowl or whatever).
  20. Textbook internet troll: person A: the chicken crossed the road WCM: but the road was built by cheap labor Any rational person: Hmmm... what does the first sentence and second have to do with one another.. .? WCM: You are just too stupid to understand. In short, we are not talking about the same thing and because you are confrontational/insecure.. you are attempting to force me to your narrative. It really gets you worked up that I will not play your game.
  21. Similar to this.... I used to visit Rupert and Burley, Idaho. In the late 80's, the restaurants were mostly diners and greasy spoon old school types. Well, it is ag country and by the early 2000's, this had changed. They were mostly replaced by Mexican restaurants. The old crusty conservatives would complain that their once amazing town had gone to he__. the indicator was the presence of mexican restaurants. And yet.. those same crusty white conservatives would go to those restaurants. Before you say,, there is no other option you need to look at a map. There are other small towns within 15 to 30 miles that had non-Mexican restaurants... hmm..
  22. I dont play the disingenuous with internet trolls. Been around the block too many times. Have been lured into games like this too many times and you are not worth the energy. I posted about car sales and you respond with a lengthy diatribe about prices. That sets the tone and gives you away.. This tells me from the beginning that you can't stay on topic. It is fascinating watching you dodge.
  23. Welcome to the modern day. If anything that you do not like is on TV, commercials, or any other outward promotion.. you are supposedly being forced to accept it. I used to hear this from folks in Idaho regarding the Mormon Church. The bilboards, signs, numerous churches apparently were indoctrination. And yet when I asked if they were being forced at gunpoint to go into that church.. they would fire back with "That's not the point".
  24. more randomness.. I had to turn it down for other reasons but one of our committees is having a convention in Bradenton, FL. It is interesting how most of these committee members are from the upper Midwest and they love their southern cities (Charleston SC, Savannah GA, Mobile AL, and now Bradenton, FL)
