Well you have to remember that the left is largely about feelings. They don't like it that there are poor people in the world, so they want to pass laws and do things so that there are no poor people. That's actually very kind-hearted and laudable from a humanitarian point of view. However factually there's no way to make that happen in a practical sense. But you can mitigate the problem. The left however doesn't look at the logic of it they just look at the fact they don't want there to ever be a poor person and any course of action or line of reasoning that still includes poor people is unacceptable to them. Of course that's not possible or even desirable as humans need some adversity in order to grow. But the fax do not matter to them.
