Joe Biden vs Justin Trudeau

wasn't just a west coast thing. Anything can be done - if you have enough time and money. But - there's a lack of both. What was rent in those days? I bet it's gone up a bit -

He was the exception that proved the rule i think. Had he survived there was a VERY real chance he could have been the first ndp Federal prime minister. Even people who hated his politics still said they'd have a beer with the guy. I don' t know that he ndp will see his like again in our lifetime. That they would go from someone like that to someone like Jaggers.... i feel like its just such a shame. We don't have very many good politicians these days. -
And again - the left HAS to lie to make it's point. I certainly didn't say it was no problem - @blackbird Didn't say it was no problem. I said it happened a long time ago and while it was a bad decision at the time, it shoudln't be holding us back now and it's time to move forward , And blackbird said it was necessary for various reasons regardless, and that people today shouldn't pay people today for the sins of the past. But instead of addressing EITHER of those points you felt the need to lie about what was said. Tell me you know you're wrong without telling me. Yeash. If the left had a single honest bone in their body maybe we could have adult conversations about these issues.

The funny thing is that he was hated for what actually fixed the problems. The free trade deal which he negotiated was instrumental in fixing our books. Our trade with the us jumped 10 fold in our favour. But at the time people HATED it - chretien ran on scrapping it. The GST paid down a lot of the deficit and eliminated old hidden taxes that held our industries back. it was pivotal in solving the problem and bringing inflation back under control as a consumption tax. But again - people hated it and chretien ran on getting rid of it. I notice we still have both So while history might look at him fondly for what he did to get our finances back on track, he was certainly not popular for it in the day. -

Yep - last guy to win with more than 50 percent of the vote as i recall - a TRUE majority. I don't know what the ndp voters will do this time. I don't think justin is going to be able to win them over. But i think a lot are mad at the ndp. Amusingly polling across mutiple polls says that a number of them are moving to the CPC right now. They don't see the left solving the problems of inflation and high home prices so they're willing to give the right a try at it. Especially the kids. Others might just decide to stay home. I guess we'll see, the next election is a long way off (theoretically) and much can change, but for now the ndp support doesn't seem to be collapsing in favour of the libs. -

They are also political. We can't pretend otherwise. Many of the decisions made during covid were not based in science. What a shame the gov't didn't share your view during covid. We might have gotten out of it without dividing the country beyond hope of repair. But - that is what happened. The gov't weaponized covid to divide people, federally to win an election and provincially in bc because of political ideology. And it is no exaggeration at all to say we are now a country that's angrier, more divided, and more hostile than ever in our entire history and that's probably not going back. -

CdnFox replied to August1991's topic in Canada / United States Relations
And kind of do already. remember during covid a lot of provinces decided that people who owned property coudn't evict those living in it even if they didn't pay the rent. The bc gov't just decided that strata's, where the owners collectively own the building and individually own their units and where you make your own little community to your tastes, would be FORCED to allow rentals even if all the owners didn't want it. And they've capped how much you can charge for rent at below inflation, They already take control over people's property a lot. Well... mental health IS an issue but most of the provinces did away with their institutions - so there's no where to 'place' them at all. And with the price of rental our welfare isn't putting much of a roof over anyone's head. -

CdnFox replied to CdnFox's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
People think that but in reality that doesn't hold water. The supposition is that ndp and liberal voters are basically interchangeable. Just slightly different places on teh political spectrum but otherwise... But there is MUCH data to suggest that is not true. If the ndp did not exist then the vote would likely bleed to the green and to the CPC as much as the libs. The libs can sometimes 'Borrow" voters from the ndp to "hold off" the evil cpc and that narrative sometimes works but OFTEN it does not. NDP voters are not just liberals with extra leftie sauce. They don't really 'split' that vote. They are two very different votes. -
That has something of the ring of truth to it. I kind of expect he will pull out and the ensuing disaster will fall on the heads of the 'regular' army but while i'm well versed in military matters in general i'm not nearly as knowledgeable about the Russian political landscape.

But they were pretty clear that all that was shared was stragegy. And you still couldn't use that to 'TARGET" the other side. At best you could use it to improve your own campaign and there was NO EVIDENCE THAT THERE WAS SUCH AN EFFORT FROM THE RUSSIANS. The reports were explicit that they coudln't see what was done with the data. So where was this co-ordinated effort? Where did that show up? I guess if you lie in a funny accent it's less of a lie? Well that's because you're not very smart and couldn't think of an intelligent reply. I think you're trying (Badly) to cover up your earlier blunder. You claimed that you didn't need to know a person's mind for a crime. I pointed out that you did, there's a legal term. Then you said butbutbut iof course i meant you COULD understand their mind. And then i said but you just said you couldn't. And now you've settled on "well you can't, but you CAN sort of". Buddy - you make yourself look dumber with every post absolute truth - but once again you run and hide because you don't have an intelligent counter argument. Or if you read the dictionary. I literally gave you the definiton. It wasn't collusion. Sorry. It's not even close. Continue to lie to yourself if it makes you feel better about your pathetic little life. But don't lie to me. I'm more intelligent than a 5th grader.

It's history. Being "still alive' doesn't mean crap. There's still people alive who served in ww2, but we wouldn't claim ww2 was still strongly impacting our lives today, the vast majority of the people alive grew up without experiencing that. And lets not pretend that the last schools to close were the same as the schools in the 1920's. The idea that every kid was raped or something in 1990 is just not real. They got clean places to live and good food etc. It's important to not UNDERPLAY the effect either and i woudlnt' want to seem like i'm suggesting that nothing was wrong with any of this - that would not be true But lets get real. A SMALL part of the native population was in schools in the 70's 80's and 90's, the schools were vastly improved compared to the problems of the past, they were gov't run not church run at that point, the first nations were already integrated into canadian culture so it wasn't any kind of 'amalgamation' effort or 'stealing' culture at that point, And it was always about assimilation rather than wiping out their culture in the first place. So the actual abusive and culturally damaging 'residential school' system is actually ancient history. Ish - i mean it was still bad even 80 years ago but there aren't many around today who actually did attend school then, They'd be like 95. So - time to move on.

Funny enough - it wasn't that long ago that the ndp WAS actually relevant even in majority gov'ts. They were great at exposing bullcrap on BOTH the liberal and conservative gov'ts of the day, raising social issues that really did need discussion, etc. They were often called the parliaments "Conscience' - they didn't stop you from doing things but they made you think about it. Thats gone of course. And they used to be relevant when there was a minority. Very much so. That's gone of course. But yeah the did do most of that to themselves with no help. -
More Voter Suppression efforts by Republicans
CdnFox replied to robosmith's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I've been poor. I've missed meals. Have you? Don't think so - you just like speaking for others. EVERYONE knows how to juggle that crap. You have to. People working two jobs are doing one full time and one part time. You either juggle the shift on the part time or yo work a deal on the full time with the boss to miss a few hours and make it up. Only someone who has NEVER been poor would pretend that it's somehow impossible to do this. You have to do it for all KINDS of things. Yeah. And not all voters are workers. So we're talking about a very TINY percent of the population - and THEN not ALL of THEM vote democrat. Close to half will vote republican - same as the rest of the population. So now the net gain by repressing this vote is TINY Nope. And you're forgetting that we've got the electoral college on steroids in canada, we use a riding system exclusively. So we can look at how these kinds of things affect outcomes evne better. You're still talking about hundreds of votes in situations that are decided by hundreds of thousands of people.' And the idea that the college 'rigs the election' shows a lack of understanding of yoru own gov't system that is horrific and shameful. Not way more. Sorry. Even in areas that are strongly democrat it's not 'way' more. lets look at new york - arguably one of the most democrat areas in the country. https://www.cnn.com/election/2020/results/state/new-york 2020 - where there was a strong dem vote. Dems got 61 - reps got 38. So the entire difference between them - and this is about as high as it's possible to get - is 23 percent. So.. with people working 2 jobs representing about 1 percent of the population (about 2 percent of the votng population), and assuming you managed to repress ALL OF THEM ENTIRELY, you MIGHT get 0.4 percent OF one percent more votes for the republicans. Which isn't even a rounding error. It's a joke. And you're a joke for not knowing how your own system works. Sorry did your word of the day calander fail you? Are you going to need to post a meme? You got called out for a truth and now you're sputtering mad. Big shock. Yep. Really now. Turns out none of what was in that article refutes what i said. Nice try at obfuscating FAIL! What the article fails to mention is someo fo that is only true if you're on the voters list - in other words you've confirmed who you are before hand. And they still have to have a picture on one of the forms of id. And the dems aren't arguing for MORE id to be recognized, they want NO id to be necessary So yes,.. RREEEEEEaeaaaaaaallllly You're such a liar -

Truth be told - it wasn't just the first nations. the gov't got it in their head that they were going to tell ALL parents how their kids should live. Which is always bad. Gov't rarely knows best. But that's neither here nor there - bottom line is yes, it was a bad thing and a bad idea. I'm convinced reading the hansards and other docs that MOST of the people involved believe it was the right thing to do for aultruistic reasons but they were wrong And they weren't trying to erase the first nations culture - they were trying to forceably integrate them. Literally their attitude was 'its fine if they want to live in their reserves in tents and hunt their food and live that way but at least if they know HOW to be british if they want then they can choose to live a better version of that". They legit thought of COURSE everyone in the world would want to know how to be british. I mean... crumpets, queens, the silly hats... it's a slam dunk. But it happened. And it's over. It was over a long time ago. Every single race and ethnicity goes through something similar, and they recover. My grandparents came here as children because their families had been killed in the russian revolution and they only got out with the shirts on their backs, they got here and they were broke, they didn't speak the language, they didn't undrestand the culture, and most of the family they loved was dead. They had suffered horrible hardships. But within a decade or so they were thriving. It's time to move on. And the people today did not choose for anything that happened in the past to happen.

And once again Antifa has to lie to make her point. THe 'spike' in left handedness is based on a survey and given the numbers is more likely a statistical blip than real. If you blow up the graph enough it kind of looks impressive tho. The second graph is not the number of gay relationships -ITS THE NUMBER OF GAY MARRIED COUPLES! SO AMAZINGLY AFTER GAY MARRAGE WAS LEGALIZED MORE GAYS GOT MARRIED!! IT"S A MIRACLE!!!! What a stupid argument. The sudden increase is children with gender issues is not normal and it's scaring professionals. But lets listen to a real expert - Dr Susan Brady who's a specialist in transgender kids. https://nationalpost.com/opinion/susan-bradley-how-trans-activists-are-unethically-influencing-autistic-children-to-change-genders It began, commendably, as activism for the rights of that very small number of people who experience persisting discomfort with their biological gender. But it has evolved into an ideological movement to normalize the practice of changing genders — and in the process is crossing ethical lines with a particularly vulnerable subset of young people struggling with issues of gender identity.

I see - and those democrats are fine with people dying just like you accuse the republicans of, is that the case. So in other words even the democrats don't buy all the democrat's bullshit. So in other wrods democrats would need to be FORCED to vote for gun bans or even THEY wouldn't do it. So even your own kind knows your full of shit. Are they all happy to see people die as well, same as you accuse the republicans of? There's no point. If they do then the dems will still be pushing to take guns away. As long as the democrats are focused on gun control and not addressing the issues then NOTHING changes. THEY are the logjam. And they've been the logjam for so long that now gun owners are going to have a hard time believing them even if they DO come to the table honestly and look for real solutions, They'll have to demonstrate their good faith somehow. It's like asking why the jews didn't just deal with hitler to work out something. When the other side is ENTIRELY focused on your destruction and has stated so many many times, there is no point trying to do anything till they calm that shit down. So as long as all the dems care about is GUNS GUNS GUNS, there will be no discussions about real solutions. The problem will persist. You should be ashamed.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/world/ukraine-war-bakhmut-prigozhin-1.6833207 Russian Wagner Group leader says his troops will pull out of Ukraine's Bakhmut in days Prigozhin said they would withdraw on May 10 — ending their involvement in the longest and bloodiest battle of the war — because of heavy losses and inadequate ammunition supplies. He asked defence chiefs to insert regular army troops in their place. WOW - that's a surprise turn. That's a pretty strong political statement. That puts Russia in a very awkward position if Zelenzky launches his spring offensive soon. The russians will have to pull troops from elsewhere to deal with bakhmut and weaken other areas or give up on taking the city fully and pull back, possibly losing the ground they've gained. The timing couldn't be much worse for russia. Prigozhin clearly wanted to send a message to someone.

More Voter Suppression efforts by Republicans
CdnFox replied to robosmith's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
First off sure you can. It ain't hard. It's not like you have to do it every week. Second, the percentage of people who work multiple jobs is tiny: https://www.census.gov/library/stories/2019/06/about-thirteen-million-united-states-workers-have-more-than-one-job.html AND many do so not because they're poor but because the want a little extra for something OR they're learning a new skill or trade or the like. So you're talking less than ONE PERCENT of the population - OF WHICH A SIZABLE HUNK WILL VOTE REPUBLICAN. You're trying you claim that Republicans are making a major effort to suppress a group of people who are so small that there is NO chance they'll make a difference in an election. You're a lying sack of socialist. What you mean is you mean is you understand YOU have to lie to try to make your point. Which means you don't have a very good point. As noted - in terms of numbers theres MORE poor white people and they're just as likely to vote republican. So your logic makes no sense, they'd hurt themselves more than they'd hurt the democrats. So, more lies from the left. Yawn. So - if it was easy to fake it and get false id so you could still steal votes then you'd be for it. Gotcha. As has been noted - ALL of this stuff already exists in Canada and we have higher voter turn outs than the US on average. So EVERYTHING you're saying we already know is untrue. The truth is you and the dems are angry because you know it will hamper illegal voting. And if it's done federally it may become common in the gubernatorial races or even (gasp!) mayoral races etc. The last thing the dems want is their ace in the hole to vanish. -

Oh yeah - there was a bunch of that in variying degrees. Here's one: https://globalnews.ca/news/8602177/freedom-convoy-protest-us-far-right-support/ “It’s so incredibly scary and disappointing,” he told Global News in an interview from Chicago. “There’s a group now within the Republican Party that … is willing to go cross what I consider to be a red line — and that red line is to be promoting disruptive activity in our neighbour, friend and allies’ backyard,” he said. An of course the CBC claimed that the convoy was more than 50 percent funded by republicans from the us, and that it was a us driven thing. Of course it later turned out there was no such funding. It was even the russians at one point but mostly it was the Americans. -

CdnFox replied to robosmith's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
But it isn't. You really are saying they're too stupid - OR too lazy and just don't care. And you haven't made your case that somehow all poor people vote democrat. You lie and you try to twist the truth to your agenda and then you get cranky when you get caught at it. And if there's no voter fraud - then you won't care about efforts to make sure of it right? Unless there is and you'd like to keep that door open. -
He DID have a majority - why didn't he do it then? Why did he wait two years until he didn't have a majority anymore? So why didn't biden put that back in when he had a majority? Of course you are. You don't care about actual solutions. You just tell lies, like 'biden COULND"T POSSIBLY because NO MAJORITY" when in fact he did for 2 years. You DEEMAAAAAND solutions that will NOT stop a single killing but will make confiscating guns easier later. You won't talk about the actual shooters or how to address that, you ONLY want to talk about law that affect lawful gun owners. ANd you don't care about non gun violence - stab as many people as you like, only gun deaths matter to you. It's pretty sick. And then you try to push your own callous disregard for life on others. You should be deeply ashamed.
