3 Work Days a week Too Much for the PS
herbie replied to ExFlyer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Kowtow to the Boss is 2nd to God philosophy? It's about the govt tests something out, sees it works and costs less and insists on going back to the status quo. Big companies are doing it too as they have so much invested in the office infrastructure. If you own a cafe or coffee shop or parking lot that caters to the office crowd, you got a legitimate complaint. If you're a supervisor that misses a bunch of people to stare over their shoulder and micromanage you hace a legitimate gripe. Otherwise, stuff it you're just sour grapes that somebody somewhere got a job with better conditions than yours and have the guts to oppose that being taken away. Jealousy that these union people can do something when your Boss would just say 'Get out, you're fired' is sure what it sounds like. -

Not griping against change at all. Read any of my post history and you can see my complaint is how others can't or won't. This one's how many of them do accept change. Blindly, unaware of what is simply sold to them, without the faintest or totally wrong knowledge about what's changing. When I was a kid people paid me to hook up their stereos - 4 speaker wires was too confusing Installing landlines, had a lady simply rip the jacks off the wall, glue them somewhere else in the house and call in screaming that they didn't work. These days panicking over having to click the Settings button on a phone, WTF a 'menu' is on a computer, believing spy satellites in orbit can see up their skirt, without the slightest clue how a car, a computer or a dishwasher works. Holding up a checkout line yakking on a phone, never so much as touched the Cruise Control button on all cars made in the last 40 years - and FFS I could wear your ears out with tech related examples. FFS I must be an elitist, cuz I worked on two STV initiatives the were just too hard to figure out for a lot of people, spent thousands changing accounting systems and software and back again for those same dummies who thought TWO taxes were better an simpler than ONE, and I sure as hell don't want to see democracy cater to the lowest common denominator. -
Housing affordability is a crisis in Canada
herbie replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Watch British TV shows and note the flats and rowhouses. Don't think those would be popular in the eyes of the affordable housing complainers in N America. Nor would Soviet blockhouses or US 'project housing'. We have a serious very complicated problem that absolutely no govt at any level can snap their fingers and solve. All levels working together can only make a dent. A kid that worked for me is turning 30 and owns 4 houses, rents out 3. His Dad owns 14 spread from BC to Ont. Another guy bought half the trailers and the mobile court himself and rents them. Are they good guys or evil slumlords? The problem or the solution? Do we regulate the real estate freemarket or deregulate it? Those are some of the things we need to decide. -
When I was a kid I would hear adults laugh how Italy had 47 govts since the war because of all those coalitions etc. Ten years after graduating Italy surpassed Canada's GDP. Going to the airport to meet distant relatives emigrating from Italy was no more. They were all busy working building and selling Maseratis to us and sending our own wheat back as funny pastas people couldn't pronounce. We've also had many examples of cooperative govts here, none of which were horrible except to Conservatives who hated liberal ones and ended up gutted by their own cooperative allies.

Yes, now it's proven those hue office buildings aren't necessary DO NOT convert them into apartments and housing. Refill them with redundant managers and supervisors. And being so busy solving contracts for ports, railways and airlines the govt has had no time in the last 3 years to negotiate work from home into their own people's. This shouldn't even be an issue. We all know buildings full of hamster cages were inefficient in a lot of cases, so work out what is and isn't and adapt. WITH the cooperation of employees! -
Tariffs are a Tax on Americans
herbie replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Proposing 19th Century Protectionism in the 21st Century is beyond retarded. It's the policy of fools. You're hearing that from a "leftie" with more conservative economic sense than any Trumpalo. Dunderhead. So now your Boss doesn't have to compete in any way other than squeezing your wages. Happy to see just the little picture? -

Say that next family reunion when 12 grandkids are sitting silently on their phones with the cousins they haven't seen in 3 years. Or the lady standing in a crowd talking loudly to someone who's not there. Or the Boss that texts or emails off hours and actually expects you to instantly respond. Of course it's a natural progression of Alexander Graham Bells telephone, but tech advances are seldom monitored for societal disruption, that's just the most blatant example. Teach kids to manage money when banking is just waving your watch, worry about online bullying etc, people who expect their Tesla to drive them through rush hour, porch pirates... etc etc etc -
That is complete and utter bullshit. A PM can't do bugger all without the consent of the majority of Parliament AND approval of the Senate. Enough of the ignorant shit about Trudeau being a dictator when he has to get support from other parties to achieve that. While a lot of people on this forum are quick to call him one, only the truly densest of ignoroids truly believes that. Which has nothing to do with the appointment of Mark Carney whatsoever, just your usual attempt to divert every topic into spewing your particular perversion of history.

Oh BS. the vast majority of Canadians barely give a shit about the Monarchy. Don't want a republic where ONE GUY wields much actual power, and not worth the effort to even hold a referendum or serious discussion. That Canada you refer to ended long ago, starting with our own damn flag. We have TWO parties beholden to corporate interests, just as the USA does. And one not so much, willing to twist their ear a little And a corporate strjuif the public demands. And a corporate structure just barely willing to understand it's cheaper to let the govt fund healthcare and the people think it's free rather than shell out twice as much of thier money to fellow billionaires.

Federal government to put 100% tariff on EVs made in China
herbie replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
It is following the USA's lead as we don't have a choice. It not only ensures domestic makers will drag their feet even longer. deprisves consumers of choice and ensures those EV rebates to buyers must continue so the makers can pocket those too into their higher prices. We should've offered China the option to build here, comply with the terms of NAFTA2 content requirements to avoid any tariff that way. MAKE domestic companies compete and lower cost to consumers.. -

You're touting the benefits of technology without realizing the reality of how it gets used in a modern capitalist society. Like thinking it's more convenient to scan and bag your own stuff at the store. Like blindly acceptiing decades ago that the bank machine that doesn't require training, cost hourly wages and benefits, coffee breakes, maternity leave etc "cost them so much" you been paying added trabnsaction fees. And my point remains that democracy is real participation, not some half assed nuisance you hand over to SyNet to deliver some Black Mirror version of a democratic system with all that's risks and flaws. You bloody well know your name, address, SIN and how you voted will be stored 'in the cloud' and sold to the highest bidder, intentionally or by hackers. -
IF you base your opinion on the posts from looudmouthed redneck malcontents and a$$holes. Who do you think explored and settled the west, never heard of the Northwest or Hudson Bay Company? As Granma used to say the Scot, French, Metis and Indians did all the work, the f*cking Englishment took their money, abandoned the wife and kids and went back home to fame and glory. After that came immigrants. No idea about now but in the 1960/70s a huge part of History classes were about early Canada, and a LOT of Quebec history. Back in the days before people resented learning things.

Is Canada allowing too many Asians to live here?
herbie replied to NAME REMOVED's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Hell if they can cross from Africa to here in a dinghy they proved they'll make good strong choppers of wood and hewers of water. [/s] Hell I so often accused people who believe 1953 was 'good times' and here we got a thread suggesting reverting to a 1920s racially based immigration quotas go on for pages! -
The return of capital punishment is badly needed in Canada
herbie replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
They enjoy taunting the prisoner with 'we're gonna kill you any day now' for like, 34 f*cking years and claiming that's not cruel and unusual punishment. Holding mentally challenged 13 year olds until they're old enough to kill and insisting mental illness is 'just an excuse'. Inventing new methods claiming they're forms of more "humane" murder. Few other groups can be pigeonholed and generalized than those who think reverting to barbarism is better than social progress. -

herbie replied to myata's topic in Political Philosophy
Partly correct myata. However many will think active participation is clicking a button on their phone or computer or emailing their worthless opinions to some data collection service. Get off their asses and go to a constituency meeting? Attend a townhall and see who will reveal actual policy? No way man, The Masked Singer is on...... -
Might as well drop the mic, that's the usual reaction of someone with nothing to say. "other than govt social programs" WTF do you think govt is for? Passing a couple unconstitutional Crime Bills every day? Cutting taxes on the rich? Shovelling money into corporate incentives?

How do I insert a quote in mobile mode?
herbie replied to gatomontes99's topic in Support and Questions
I remember when I was young enough to read a webpage on a 7" netbook at 640x480...... sigh.... -
GOP logic targets dupes like reason10. You don't have to prove shit, you just claim it repeatedly. Witness years of DonOld's 'Crooked Biden' slander. As for claiming that merely filing a lawsuit 'proves' dick shit..... but then again you are the deplorables backing a criminal pervert proven liar and fraud for President.
