  1. Apparently these workers made $34/hour. In London, Ontario that pretty close to rich. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/politics/article/1125718--caterpillar-closes-electro-motive-plant-in-london Companies certainly don't need Unions.
  2. Well I think we've moved beyond the idea that any job is sacrosanct to be outsourced. My Nokia phone was made in Mexico. Is that any better? At this point aren't you surprised to find a product that was actually made in Canada or the USA?
  3. What's a livable wage? Were these workers being offered unlivable wages by the CAT? Saskatchewan has a boom because of natural resources. Too bad God didn't bless Ontario with Potash, Natural Gas or Tar Sands.
  4. Not really. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1125812--city-of-toronto-s-threatening-final-offer-rejected-by-union?bn=1 It appears what the City has done is to dictate terms so if the workers will be forced to accept terms or they'll have to strike. I'm not a labour lawyer so I don't even know if this tactic is legal. Should be very interesting to see how this story develops. BTW if anyone remembers the 2009 Strike this is pretty much what Ferguson did to David Miller. He said if a deal wasn't met by a certain Sunday deadline he'd leave the table. David Miller folded like a cheap tent. It's kind of fresh of him calling this a bully tactic.
  5. Well even then, if your job can be done cheaper in Southeast Asia your job isn't safe. It's a tough world out there. The realities of the middle-class are changing and adaptations have to be made.
  6. I'm sure those Union members are thrilled with the CAW. I wonder if Electro-motive has a "Re-deployment" provision.
  7. Looks like there's going to be a work stoppage. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1125812--city-of-toronto-s-threatening-final-offer-rejected-by-union?bn=1
  8. I don't have evidence either way. But then again CTV is a privately owned company so they can keep the wages of their employees private.
  9. It's sort of like saying Person A and Person B can both write off dependents on their taxes but Person B can also write off their mortgage and car loans. Person A cant. When Person A protests, Person B says but you can write off your dependents. The government grants organizations like Sun Media applies for are open to anyone. The 1.1 Billion the CBC gets is set aside only for them. Now if it can be proven that the CBC only uses that 1.1 bil on preserving Canadian heritage and stuff and the rest of their operations are privately funded, I'd have no problem with that but the CBC goes to great lengths to keep how they spend the government money they receive private.
  10. You don't see the problem with a defacto government organization having 730 people on the Sunshine list? I'm sure the private companies they compete with don't have anywhere close to that many people making 6-figures.
  11. So it's a case of No News is Bad News? CBC Exec: We need to raise some awareness to our French Website. I know lets buy a French Softcore Pron program and it'll get those fascists at Sun Media all pissed off and the ad revenue will just start rolling it.
  12. I guess we're working on a different definition of "porn". It's certainly Soft-core porn at the very least. http://cnews.canoe.ca/CNEWS/Microgalleries/2012/02/01/19326331.html?&pic=2 Those are some racy pics. The CBC has bowed to pressure a bit by only allowing the link to the show to be visible from midnight-4am. I guess the point that's being made here is why is the CBC buying a program like this? It's not even Can Con.
  13. According to the reporter he said "How are the Sunshine girls" Which is obviously a false comparison because the Sunshine girls aren't having sex and public money isn't put towards printing those photos. Ezra Levant doesn't like James Moore very much.
  14. How so? Dude's name is Aaron Schatz http://www.footballoutsiders.com/author/aaron-schatz The show is on in the afternoon on TSN and ESPN so I'm sure some people have seen it. You should be happy, FO's gone Mainstream. BTW all I'm saying is it seems FO has a hard-on for the Golden Boy. I think when you consider the Giants body of work in the playoffs, what happened when the met in the regular season and the fact the Pats really should have lost to the Ravens, oh and the teams Eli has beaten, I have to pick the Giants. One argument against the Giants is they seem to do poorly against 2 TE sets. So it appears the health of Gronk is of utmost importance. Should be a good game.
  15. I saw one of those Footballoutsider disciples on this ESPN show Numbers Don't Lie. He had a mancrush on Brady that made Colin Cowherd's look tame.
  16. I think the implication there is that Canada's good name was lost. Seeing that for the last 6 years we've been under Conservative rule you could reasonable make the assumption he's saying that the CPC has hurt Canada's reputation.
  17. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/02/01/holyday-to-ferguson-lets-talk I love how the Union says it's willing to bargain when basically anything short of the same agreement as the 2009 one with a 3 year wage freeze tacked on is greeted with a resounding NO! I think, if anything, this mayor has a mandate to try and make the contracts it signs with its workers a little more equitable to the good majority of taxpayers that pay their wages. We're not even talking Overtime here, we're talking about changing shifts to areas where more demand is needed an they get paid more for that? That's insane!
  18. They also use Taxpayer funds to purchase porno shows from France. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/02/01/is-the-cbc-paying-for-porn
  19. Well that's what's being asked of Ford here. The lady wants confirmation that the donations were paid back. What's making this newsworthy, I suppose, is that Ford is ignoring the requests to pay the money back. So what recourse does the lady have? I'm curious, I don't know. It's not a criminal offense, I don't think, So I can only see a fine as the potential punishment.
  20. This is actually more damning to the CPC than it is to Sun News. Apparently they didn't even know that people were just picked out of the air. Maybe they should have done their research but it was just a photo-op reallly. If you ever watch Ezra Levant's show he's hardly an apologist for the CPC.
  21. Well what's the potential punishment for this crime? Jail time? Fines? Getting demonized by people that already hate his guts? I'm sure he'll get over it. And if it comes to it I'm sure he'll repay the donations. But the story indicated that the donors don't even want the money back. Perhaps he'll donate the equal sum he received another charity to make himself look even more unethical.
  22. How's this going to work against Ford in an upcoming election campaign. Rob Ford. . . he solicited illegal donations . . . For his charity! Damn the guy must be the spawn of Satan.
  23. Are you implying he pocketed this money otherwise I don't see any problem trying to raise funds for your foundation even if you're using your status as mayor to help.
  24. And I won't watch the channel gets 1.1 billion from the taxpayer and pays 730 employees 6-figures http://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/canada-politics/730-cbc-employees-over-100-000-165212940.html
