Sure. Murder is murder. It's like a hate crime. Why should a crime have an additional punishment tacked on because it was rationally motivated or because the victim was gay. But deaths like this provide a warning about how Muslim women in this country should be treated.
-
Sure people of all faiths do things that are totally horrible. The difference with this is that similar treatment of women is lauded in much of the Muslim world. It's rare in Canada which is good, but we should be use this incident as a warning. This event isn't morally equal to say a crime of passion that comes from a domestic incident. It was far more insidious. People who come to this country should know that treating women as possessions is totally unacceptable in the West. Europe is having lots of trouble trying to assimilate Muslims with similar views of this man to their society.

CBC leads 'get the facts' attack on Quebecor
Boges replied to mentalfloss's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I would appear CBC's little melt on their website didn't reveal some important information. http://www.torontosun.com/2011/10/21/quebecor-hits-cbc-with-lawsuit-notice If that's true, the CBC is guilty of committing libel against Quebecor, no question. -
Yeah Bubber I think you're confusing Content Creators with the Network. The only content Networks create are news and sports, which are things that aren't often DVR'd.
-
Well you're simply worse than Hitler.

CBC leads 'get the facts' attack on Quebecor

You have to know that if the CBC was forced to release the information Quebecor wants them too it'll be beyond embarrassing for them. I bet even if courts told them to release the information they won't. -
CBC leads 'get the facts' attack on Quebecor

Yeah it's totally disingenuous to compare tax rebates and credits that all broadcasters are allowed to apply for and the 1.1 billion the CBC gets handed to them each year. -
[quote name='Hydraboss' date='21 October 2011 - 07:30 AM' is anyone going to comment on the "get a new motorhome" idea? How about a silencer for some of those guns? (can be made with a pop bottle, a rag/insulation, and some duct tape if necessary) And going back to season 1, why the hell are people sleeping in tents? Sleep in the damn vehicles if there are dead people walking around. I would. And steal some better vehicles...every one of those cars and suv's on the highway in the season 2 premiere had the frickin keys in it. Is this really rocket science? In the comic book they do go to a gun store, not sure how widely available silencers are though. And when they are forced to leave a gated community they thought was safe they all stayed in the mobile home which was kinda of hard for them all to fit in. Until of course they reach the farm that should be highlighted in this coming Sunday's episode. I think the bigger question about the cars on the road is what killed the people inside them. It clearly wasn't the zombies. I see some wider story at play here.

So Greed is OK when it comes from people that are ignorant of the old saying "Live within your means". But it's unacceptable when people sell said people bad loans knowing they'll make out like a bandit. Both parties are to blame here.

I guess this is part of the debate about what Carriage fees are all about. Networks want the cable companies to pay the them to show their content. I don't really want to see my cable bill go up again. I think Networks will have to adapt to try and find revenue elsewhere because there's no putting the DVR toothpaste back in the tube. I couldn't watch TV without my DVR nowadays. I still do watch ads. And most of the shows I DVR are big network shows like Big Bang Theory, CSI: Las Vegas, Walking Dead etc. The people that produce that content don't appear to have problems feeding their families.

The conservative holy grail will soon be gone!
Boges replied to WWWTT's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You can't really prove or disprove that the Registry works or doesn't work. Someone can legally own a firearm and go crazy and kill a bunch of people. Someone can illegally own a gun and otherwise be perfectly law abiding. And also someone can illegally own a hand gun and murder someone. Which is the case with the vast majority of murders in downtown Toronto. I just think this registry is a meaningless extra bureaucracy that wastes taxpayer money. -

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/story/2011/09/12/quebec-dawson-anniversary-gun-laws.html Owned the firearm legally. Gun Registry didn't stop this. The Registry only proves to criminalize people who want to own firearms legally. If you want a gun bad enough, you can get it. Sorta like how people probably think buying duty-free tobacco is wrong but think decriminalization of pot is correct. -
I don't think so. I don't own a gun but I think this law is simple pandering to sensationalists. Legal gun-owners aren't the problem. It's illegal hand-gun owners that are the problem.

Isn't that why they're on their way to the military base, to find better weapons. In the comic book they never seem to find high-powered weapons until later on. They had been hiding out next to a Quarry for most of their time out there. I don't think zombies have the same nutritional needs as humans either. The bigger question about it being realistic is why where those dead people just sitting in their cars? Was there some sort of event that caused them to die where they were?
-
What are you implying they haven't tried to get that info? BTW you really watch Little Mosque on the Prairies?

It was a sidebar discussion I had with Guyser. He mentioned that the Harper government increased the CBC's funding last year. I told him they now asking them to reduce their funding like all other Federal departs.
-
Actually out of the taxes I pay, I see less direct influence on my day-to-day life from the Feds as opposed to my local government or the province. But what does any of this have to do with the CBC being told to cut their budget like every other Federal department?

Well in the US, a Congressman represents a district of about 500,000. Using that model we could get by with about 60-70 MPs. Good luck getting anyone to approve that through. The Riding of Nova Scotia/PEI, Saskatchwan North, Oh and my favourite, Territories/Labrador/North Quebec. Campaigning in that riding would suck.

Trying to avoid watching ads isn't anything new. As I said before the VCR was allowing people to ignore ads in the 80's. The DVR is amazing because you can watch something and record something else at the same time. You can also decide shows you want to before hand. I can scan through my guide and look for shows I want to watch even if I can't be there to watch them when they aire. My wife is watching Terra Nova on the DVR. I was watching my Miami Dolphins get destroyed last night but the DVR recorded it anyway. Technology is awesome. We had a commercial break. Before getting a chance to fast forward I can tell the first ad is that hilarious Google Chrome Angry Birds ad. I've seen it before so I can fast forward through it. If the ad is good enough it'll catch your attention even if you can fast forward through it.
-
By Bubber Miley's logic, you're immoral if you don't read every ad in a newspaper or magazine. Or even if you don't look at every pop-up ad on a website.
-
I would argue much of the Occupy protesters are calling for more government, not less.
-
Really because when I look at my pay cheque it looks like I give Federal money, not get.
-
I wouldn't disagree with that. Especially when you consider the pensions MPs get. You'd find constituents wouldn't have proper representation though. But as said in this thread, that's not something that can easily be done.
-
Have you read this entire thread? Should the seat count just remain the same? Apparently you can't just set a number of seats and re-distribute them without agreement from all the provinces. Which will never happen.
-
OnDemand is offered if you subscribe to that service. For example there are a few Food Network or HGTV shows you can get, commercial free, and because it's basic cable it comes with your digital cable bill. If you want TMN onDemand you need to subscribe to TMN. The DVR is also part of your cable bill too BTW. As I said before trying to avoid the commercials isn't something new. What's the difference between fast forwarding through a commercial and changing the channel? Or going to the bathroom during a commercial break? At least with fast forwarding you actually can see what the ad is and if it seems interesting you can stop fast forwarding. I don't know this for sure but I imagine Ad rates for TV programming are different for the first and last ads in a break as opposed to ads in the middle of the break. When you're fast forwarding you often still can see what's the last and first ads are because you don't know when the break ends. If that makes any sense.
