McGuinty threatens another election
Boges replied to Anti-Am's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
More than half. But then again what do you call the GTA? Halton to Scarborough up to Vaughan? Do you throw the half a million in Hamilton and the other 400,000 in Niagara? What about PAWS? (Pickering, Ajax, Whitby, Shwa) The better name is the Golden Horseshoe. All the communities that are close to the west-end of Lake Ontario. -

The Dippers are trying to bait the Libs into an election by changing minor parts of the budget. It's kind of amusing. Ultimately it'll be the Fighting Dalton's choice to call an election. They said they would call a snap election if they changed anything in the budget. -

You mean GTA right? The GTA isn't just downtown Toronto. It's the suburbs, in the Federal election the suburbs went overwhelmingly to Harper. Not so much in the provincial election. I'd say there are more people in suburban ridings in the GTA than in downtown Toronto. That includes places like Etobicoke, Scarborough and North York, places friendly to Mayor Rob Ford. -

I'm pretty sure those guys own thoroughbreds. After Fort Erie closes the only thoroughbreds track will be Woodbine and only for part of the year. I doubt Woodbine would have trouble staying open regardless of where the money for the purses comes from. There are, however, several standardbred tracks in Ontario. All over the province. The owners of the horses at small tracks aren't rich magnates, Many of them are also the trainers. When the Slots program was put in place it allowed a lot more people to get involved in the industry. The rich owners won't sweat it, many of them live in the US anyway. But under this system they spend their money up here employing people. It's nice to know McDalton is perfectly happy with more jobs leaving Ontario. -

Jack Layton wasn't a sitting MP when he was named leader of the NDP, if I remember correctly. I don't know if the Liberals have a specific law for that. McGuinty has made so many enemies in the West he's pretty unelectable federally. -

That 1010 poll wasn't scientific. Do you really think people listening to Jerry Agar support McDalton? Regardless it'll all come down to the campaigning. With the forced $100 million cut in the Toronto School Board budget how would Dalton do in Toronto compared to the NDP? The doctors and OPSEU have turned their backs on him. On the other end of the spectrum his name is mud in Rural Ontario because of the Slots at the Racetrack problem. Say what you will about how gaming should support horse racing, it employs a lot of people. Fort Erie will be decimated once the racetrack there closes. The tracks in Sarnia, Windsor and Kawartha are set to close. And that's just the start. Lots of people work there and they won't be voting Liberal. -

I don't think anyone in Ontario likes McDalton right now. He's pissed off the left, he's pissed off the right. He's being a hypocrite about the Catholic School system. He's being taken to court by the doctors. He's being taken to court by the people that he asked to make a Power plant in Mississauga only to cancel construction during the last election to win votes. The Toronto School Board just had to cute $100 million from its budget. ORNGE? E-Health? Is there anything this asshat does right? Not sure if the NDP will have the guts to force his hand here though. It does appear that Dalton wants the election more than anyone else. -
So instead of coming down hard perpetrators of gun crime, everyone's favourite lefty, Adam Vaughan went on a Media blitz today saying that, not only guns but ammunition should be banned in Toronto. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/06/12/vaughan-proposes-guns-and-ammo-ban-for-toronto Hand guns are highly restricted in Canada and have been for awhile. Why must Liberals blame legal gun owners for murders caused by people using illegal guns? Was Mr. Cousins "piece" legally registered? And even if it was, did he have a license to carry it concealed?

If you saw a Dog in a car on a hot day. . .
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Local Politics in Canada
AW I certainly agree that as you age your judgement improves. But once you reach the age of majority you can face the consequences of your actions the same as someone much older. This lady had faced the wrath of public opinion. Most people aren't buying the excuse that she just lost track of time. The father made it worse by blaming the media and saying that they don't have malls that size in Sudbury so she must have been wow'd by Vaughan Mills. Made her look like a small town girl that couldn't handle being in the big city. She was charged with a crime. That crime has a potential penalty of jail time but more likely she'll face a fine and perhaps community service. I don't think her age should change a judge's mind in passing out whatever sentence he/she see's fit to pass down. -

Wow AW you're making a lot of excuses for this girl. 20 is young, but she's still an adult, she can vote, she can consume alcohol in Ontario, she can clearly obtain a drivers license and own a car. I see it this way. Either she was willfully ignorant of how to take care of a dog or she was more interested in going into a gigantic mall to shop than care for her dog. Either way it makes her look horrible. -

They're saying that now because her name has been released and she worked at a Pet Food Store. She'll probably have to find new work after this incident. Call me uncaring, but I find it hard to believe anyone that is of sound mind can loose track of 2 hours. I had my dog in the car on Sunday and she was panting uncontrollably after 5 minutes in there even with the AC on. I wouldn't have left her in there. And if I did think I could get away with 5 minutes or less, away from the car, I'd be afraid some dog lover would break my window. Perhaps they should have taken turns walking the dog while they were in the mall getting whatever they wanted. -

You misunderstood me. I mean that the issue of leaving a dog in the car isn't a black and white one. There are acceptable times to do it. Doing it yesterday in Toronto wasn't one of those times. -

What about 15 C? What if you'll be gone for 5 minutes. These tools left their dog in the car for 2 hours. Of course it's not a black and white issue. Oh and if you'd assault someone for that you'd probably be facing more severe charges than the person leaving the dog in the car. -
In Southern Ontario yesterday . . . It was HOT!!! A daft couple left their doggie in a car for 2 hours and the widdle puppy died. And they drove hours to attend some dog festival called Woofstock earlier in the day. http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/ontario-pair-charged-after-dog-left-in-hot-car-in-toronto-area-dies/article4247088/ Two dogs were found on the opposite ends of Toronto today in the owners car today. This is not a black and white issue. No problem leaving a dog in a car on a 20 degree C day for a little bit to pick something up. But not when it's this hot, or when it's -10 C. Anyway people love dogs but would you dare to break someone's window to save the dog. They are legally property, they don't have civil rights so you could get charged for doing that. Whatcha think?

Well are you referring to stuff the CPC campaigned on. For example the fact that they repealed the Long Gun Registry should have been a surprise to no one. -

Boges replied to Anti-Am's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
There were ridings in Ontario where centrists/conservative Liberals lost. Many voters don't identify with a party. Centrists who may vote LPC or CPC probably wouldn't vote for a party that's left of the LPC. And who would lead this mysterious new party. If sway in the house is any indication it would have to be Thomas Mulclair. Much like the Alliance leader ended up leading the CPC. How many Liberals would be agreeable to be led by the leader of the NDP? -
Got to explain why an F1 Race Montreal begged to have back is being ruined by protesters I guess. F1 is big in France right?

A country that has the least stat holidays of any G8 nation; A country that has a retirement of 65+; A country that actually has an unemployment rate under 8%; Should fork over money to countries that have stat holidays a plenty, retirement for people under 60 and huge unemployment. I don't think so. I haven't seen the Mulclair quote but I can't see anyone outside of Quebec that would support measures bailing out Europe. Well unless they adopted some of the policies that have kept Canada off the ledge.

Liberals to get a "new" interim leader!
Boges replied to Fletch 27's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
So you really think the current CPC has such current hard-line right-wing views as the former Alliance and Reform? -
I guess if you're an CPC MP from Atlantic Canada you'd have to come out in support of people defrauding the EI system just to get elected. As for the environmental issue. I doubt it's something that would cause the party to split. Remember how the Carbon Tax was treated when it was put forward as an election platform?

Liberals to get a "new" interim leader!
Boges replied to Fletch 27's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
When was Harper a Liberal? Did he ever run an election for them. As for the PC argument. Everyone in the caucus was either a former PC or a former Alliance/Reformer. That argument is a red herring. -
None of the Chretien Liberal majorities saw a popular vote of 50% plus. The popular vote is irrelevant in the FPTP system anyway. All these polls that show the popular vote as a reflection of how the election will go are annoying.
