  1. I've been with my lovely Android phone for a few weeks now. I freakin' love it! How can iPhone users really look down their nose as Google when it comes to the phone. Is there really anything that iOS does better than Android except for the the fact that you can play lots of video games them because the App Store is flooded with them. Who uses their phone for full length console style video game anyway? 15-year-olds? The big problem with Android is the OS upgrades. My Samsung comes with something called Gingerbread. But something called Icecream Sandwich has been out for months but Rogers wont give it to me. Now something called Jellybean has been announced. How long will it be before I get that? One thing Apple has over Android is there is no variety in the hardware so people either can get the software for their phone or they cant. But I don't see that as a plus.
  2. Well perhaps McDalton should have accepted Military help first of all. Second they only made plans to get this heavy equipment after a shitstorm was created after the HUSAR people went home and had to be sent back.
  3. And it takes 4 plus days to make it stable? A Union must have been in charge.
  4. What about the facts we do know. That it took 4+ days for them to get proper machinery to the town and McDalton had to tell the rescue workers to go back after they were on their way home. And that Federal assistance was offered to Dalton by the PM and he turned it down.
  5. That's $15/month. Would they also be raising rents in the city $15/month. Is it a flat tax hike or an average hike BTW? It's not a bank-breaker but it's a hefty tax hike and a tax hike that'll be in place for a generation. I don't know, to actually get people that use the service to pay. That's what people that advocate for Road Tolls keep saying.
  6. The problem is it took until Tuesday for anything to be done? Couldn't this heavy equipment been called Sunday? It wasn't until the Media that j44 is bitching about exposed that the rescue workers actually started going home and the public wanted to rush the building and save people themselves that McDalton and the powers that be got involved.
  7. 2% a year plus whatever other increases are needed is pretty steep. Then again I don't live in Toronto. How about they ad a $10 surcharge to metropasses?
  8. It's summer time. What do you want to hear more about that Senator that got pwnt by Trudeau Jr's attendance?
  9. Well the story now is less about the collapse and how crappy the response was. Apparently the rescue workers gave up and started to go home and had to be ordered back. It looks like a bureaucrat got in the way of getting people out. They also prevented locals from trying to help. Had this happened in Toronto do you really think the rescue would have been called off? That's the outrage.
  10. http://www.torontosun.com/2012/06/26/warmington-elliot-lake-will-not-forget This Mall collapsed on Saturday and it took them until Tuesday to call in someone that could get inside the mall? That's an outrage that this happened in Canada. Oh and why didn't McDalton call in the Dart team like they did in Haiti to try to get to the people before they likely died trapped under rubble. Someone's head has to roll for how this tragedy was handled.
  11. Really? So NFL or Baseball analyst and journalists that never actually played the sport but spent their lives following it really have no relevant opinion on the sport? The Baseball Hall of Fame Inductees are nominated by sports writers.
  12. Oh that's cool then, politicians never lie. I doubt these guys will turn Egypt into Afganistan 2.0 but I worry for the minorities in the country, coptic Christians and such. But what happens when Sharia Law gets introduced into Egypt or when the MB says that Israel isn't a legit state?
  13. Awesome the Muslim Brotherhood won in Egypt. Cue people who are mortified when people bring religion into public discourse in the West applaud the result.
  14. I didn't use the term initially did I? I just recognize the slang. Get with the times old timer.
  15. "aight" is a contemporary way of saying alright. It's how the kids say it.
  16. So it's Pride Week. Ford won't be at the Flag Raising today, or at least he says he won't be. He's said he'd be at something. I wonder what event he'll end up attending.
  17. It was immensely boring. The first few minutes were aight but a majority of the second half and extra time was England just playing defense. They looked as if they were just playing for the shootout. They deserved to lose IMHO.
  18. Canada Day happens every year. If Germany, Portugal, Italy, England, France or any team other than Spain wins the Euro Cup, that's really something to celebrate if it's your heritage. It just so happens both are on the same day.
  19. I don't know why people are offended at people who fly the flags of their country of heritage during soccer tournaments. We're all Canadians, we wouldn't be here if we didn't love Canada, But we suck at soccer, so during international soccer tournaments there's nothing wrong with people adopting different nations. Even people who have several generations of Canadians in their family can cheer for England. Or people that come from other Commonwealth nations that have a link to England. I watched the second half of the Portugal game yesterday in a Portuguese deli and it was very exciting.
  20. Man I totally missed this post last month. I'm not talking about people who play soccer. Clearly more people play soccer than other "more expensive sports" I think other posters have backed up my opinion on that matter. In the post you're responding to here I'm more referring to fans. I love playing volleyball, but I much prefer to watch NFL football. Sorry to break this to you, but more people are paying attention to the NFL and the NHL in Canada than are paying attention to the MLS which is a second-rate soccer league. Many people are fans of the EPL and fill bars on a Saturday morning to watch the best version of the sport but that doesn't mean the sport is mainstream in North America like the big four (hockey, football, basketball and baseball) are when it comes to following the professional versions of the sport.
  21. You gotta give the Star lots of credit here. This is why MSM investigative journalism is something that's of value to everyone and should be preserved. Had the Star not brought this to public light, perhaps nothing would have been done. More news about the issue came out today. http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/1215444--toronto-school-board-workers-paid-for-loafing-on-the-job?bn=1
  22. The cuts make perfect sense when you consider many of them have called in sick anyway. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/nova-scotia/story/2012/06/20/pol-weston-sick-days-public-service.html That's more that 10% of the deficit. Who are the effin' morons that approved these collective agreements?
  23. The pencil sharpener is only the most comical example given simply because anyone with two functioning hands can do that job. I wouldn't expect a teacher to know how to do electrical work. The question is why did it cost $3,000? According to the story the union billed 72 hours of work at $38/hour to do a simple job that took half a morning. That's fraud!
  24. I suspect had the union found out that someone did that they'd have filed a grievance for doing their job. That's what I hear working for a union is like. You have a set job and you are not supposed to do anymore than what your job description describes. It kills any form of ambition.
  25. I don't think anyone can defend this. But this is the primary reason why people hate Unions, they hold people hostage like the mob. http://www.thestar.com/news/article/1214758--toronto-schools-pay-high-prices-for-small-jobs?bn=1 So basically officials are afraid of punishment if they stand up to these thugs? The TDSB shouldn't get another cent from the province that isn't properly audited. They've lost their ability to cry poor to the public. They were closing cafeterias while this was happening. They want to sell off playgrounds and they're paying $3000 for simple electrical work.
