I'm not a "gun supporter" But I don't think gun ownership should be illegal, I don't think that's an extreme opinion. If the gun in the home of the person in community housing was legal and registered than that's fine.
-
Owning a concealed handgun is already illegal. You could charge people right now. But the courts need to have teeth. Another solution would be this: The shooting happened in community housing. If you're found with a gun and you live in community housing, your family is evicted. That might make these guys think twice about carrying a gun.
-
It wasn't a hand gun registry. It was a LONG GUN registry. Was a hunting rifle used in Monday's shooting?
-
Alright well what prison sentence would you attach to concealing a hand gun because you need a stiff deterrent to prevent people from carrying it. . . don't you?
-
Stopping the illegal importing of hand guns is about as tough as stopping the importing of illicit drugs. The big difference is, unlike drugs, owning and concealing a hand gun is a constitutional right for our neighbours to the south. Would you support mandatory minimum sentences for possessing an illegal gun?

Well the Adam Vaughan statement was about the police. The Police seem to have been taken care of very well by this Mayor, to a fault I'd say. He did ask the Chief to trim some money, but he asked all departments to do that. He didn't make them cut 10% though. To blame the mayor for this is trying to use the event to score political points.

As I said in the OP, Toronto is a relatively safe city . . BUT . . . some places in the city aren't so safe. That being said there has been an uptick in violence this year. The reason? who knows? It certainly isn't because people are able to legally own guns and purchase ammunition.
-
Yeah and Adam Vaughan went after Mayor Ford, blaming a hiring freeze the police's response. Using tragedy to score political points isn't above either side of the political spectrum.

McGuinty is going to send the shooters to Sarnia at a cost to the Ontario taxpayer of $190 million. Wait that's another story sorry?

To circulate warm air just the same to circulate cool air in the summer time. The furnace is coming on much more in the winter than the AC is in the Summer. My electricity bill is low in the winter because I also have a gas stove so I'm only using electricity for the stuff I would be using anytime of year.
-
You know I did that this winter to try and lessen my heating costs. I had some of the highest electricity costs of the year in January. (My heating is gas) I think Ceiling fans are the trick, not doing that again with the furnace fan, the only real benefit I suppose would be the extend the life of the fan because it's on all the time instead of being turned on and off.
-
What about Central Heating? Do people really need to live North of the TransCanada Highway?
-
Well the climate in Southern Ontario is far different and ACs are a nice luxury.
-
I bet there are people out there that keep there home 16 in the summer and 25 in the winter.
-
I know it's a cliché but it's really the humidity and not the heat that makes sleeping hard. My bedroom can get up to 28 even with the AC on, but at least the humidity is gone and the two fans on the bed make sleeping rather comfortable.
-
In Southern Ontario it's supposed to be 37 degrees C or so today. Humidity in the 40s. Hottest day of the summer so far. My thermostat is set to 26, when no one but the doggie is home. At 5pm it drops to 25 and at 9 it drops to 23 where is stay overnight. Granted that's in the kitchen, the bedroom is usually 2 degrees warmer but there are two well placed fans there. The drapes and blines are closed and the AC usually doesn't kick in until 4 or 5pm later in the afternoon the next day. Today might be different because it's super hot. Is that unreasonable or am I "soft"? Lots of media attention has been focused on people who do or don't use AC in recent weeks. Here's an example: http://www.theglobeandmail.com/commentary/the-air-conditioning-quandary/article4401655/ An Extreme Heat Alert has been issues and "Cooling Centers" have been opened. I wonder what the unionized wages of the attendants of the "Cooling Centre" are? So who here is militant about their non-use of the wonderful luxury that is Air Conditioning? I honestly couldn't enjoy my evening later today if my place didn't have AC, I would rather be in an Air Conditioned office at work.

It works in Great Britain right?

How about we ban Barbecues after 10:30pm on Weekdays.

http://www.cnn.com/2012/07/17/world/canada-shooting/index.html?hpt=wo_c2 So what is it? Is it because this was in a poor area of Toronto? (Apparently the BBQ was in a subsidized townhouse complex) Is it because City Council didn't ban bullets last week like resident communist Adam Vaughan wanted? Or is it because there are laws against using hard drugs, allowing gang violence like this to proliferate. I suspect this will be met with a lot of apathy because it wasn't in a mall like the Eaton's Centre shooting. Innocent people were injured though. I don't have the answers. I don't think anyone here does. Toronto is a relatively safe city but there are places where it's not so safe. Events like this defy explanations unless of course you want it to fulfill some kind of agenda you have. (ei Gun Control, Drug Prohibition, Poverty)

One of the better characters IMHO in the series is Richard Harrow, the WW1 vet with half a face. Apparently he's taken on protecting Jimmy's Red-headed MILF and his son in this season.

Right now you got the same problem with a show like Breaking Bad and two other shows (True Blood and The Newsroom) on HBO. HBO shows have no commercials so it's always better to watch them live and tape the AMC show and f0ast forward through the ads. (Don't tell Bubber Miley) That's why I still haven't watch The Season 5 premiere of Breaking Bad because I didn't want to wait up until 10 for a show that likely has lots of ads. I'll watch it tonight. This thread has become the defacto Walking Dead thread BTW. No one wants to talk about Boardwalk Empires, It's a great show though. Season 3 starts in September. Not sure I like Jimmy Darmody being killed at the end of last season though. I've watched previews and apparently this season fast forwards 2 years from the death of Jimmy.

What, pray tell, is "their" team? This might be one of the reason's people are leery of different types of food carts/trucks. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1226857--city-loses-bid-to-shut-down-hotdog-carts-despite-multiple-health-violations

Drop a NSFW on that link please. From the brief second I saw that pic before clicking the X button that looked like half the penis being cut from tip to base. That's not, in anyway, comparable to circumcision. You can be dogmatic about the idea of alternating a child's body with his consent but I think reasonable people can agree that circumcision doesn't greatly cause an adverse effect on the person's future as opposed to that horrific link you posted. If it was something people did "just cuz" then only Jewish people would do it because it's said to be done in the Bible. Many more people have it done other than Jews.
-
Circumcision isn't medically necessary but it's an aesthetics procedure that parents choose to have performed on their male children for a variety of reasons. Many children get the procedure done and it's not something the child will ever remember and the child will never miss something he had for a few days. There are benefits to having it done or people wouldn't do it. I've never been given a study that shows a large number of people that are outraged they've had circumcision nor have they had massive medical problems from getting it. There are just a handful of people that want to get in the business of religious groups and control the rights of parents. Since you don't really "need it", in Canada, in shouldn't be part of Public Healthcare. Then again Canada has flirted with offering sex-change operations on the taxpayer's dime. But to ban it is a pretty extremist view considering the likely negative side effects of circumcision are negligible and the number of parents that choose to have the procedure done for their child is sizable. As said earlier, in this thread, it's akin to abortion, when it was illegal. Jews and Muslims aren't going to stop the procedure because it's illegal so you push the practice underground where it then may become a public health problem. The idea of criminalizing a procedure that's been done for thousands of years without much complaint is concerning to me.
