  1. How often does that happen? Cite examples of Canada or even NATO getting rid of a legit elected leader since perhaps in 1970's Iran. Ghadafi wasn't elected was he? No one is saying Morsi should be overthrown .
  2. Egypt has the right to elect whoever they want. But I find it more than amusing they act shocked when they elect a party, or a group of people if you may, that has no history of being inclusive or pluralistic, when he doesn't act inclusive or pluralistic. It would be akin to the NDP pledging to cutting taxes to get elected and when they get elected they end up actually raising taxes. Who would be surprised by that considering their record? I don't have the informed opinion of the Egyptian electorate to know why they elected Morsi. I'm not sure if they would prefer to be ruled by Islamofascists over a Stongman propped up by the West, or if they actually believed Morsi's bunk. Either way it's a sad state they've find themselves in by electing the Muslim Brotherhood.
  3. I don't expect you to. But people that do go to church would though. I think most church's see Christmas Eve as an Open House were they can appeal to new members even though Christmas' roots have nothing to do with Jesus.
  4. I got slapped on the wrist for using the term "Dippers" I hope that means saying "Cons" is against the rules too.

      Sleipnir

Well technically people uses Libs and Cons as opposed to spelling out the entire word.

    3. Merlin

Grits and Torys are ok terms to use. It's in the rules and guidelines. I've read them recently.

      Just what does dippers represent?

  5. Today Sun media announced they're going behind a Paywall. The Star and Globe previously said they'd go behind a pay wall. You can say you'll find alternative forms of media to get your information, but if they all do it then you'll have a dearth of GOOD LOCAL AND PROFESSIONAL information available online unless you cough up some cash. Most TV networks don't provide the indepth investigative reporting Newspapers do and Websites like HuffPo are high on Opinion but low on actual reported News, I'd say.
  6. Thank Almighty Creator. Rob Ford got one win this week at least. http://www.thestar.com/news/gta/article/1294392--council-kills-plastic-bag-ban I didn't want this ridiculous idea of not allowing people to be given a bag to carry the sh!t they just bought out of the store to spread. Most retailers already charge like 5 cent for plastic bags, they're recyclable, they're re-usable and paper bags are less environmentally friendly than they are. I'm glad Toronto finally came to its senses.
  7. In this part of the world people are either run by a Strongman Dictator or a Religious Leader, or in Iran's case both. I haven't seen an example of where a secular pluralistic democratically elected leader has received legitimate power.
  8. As a lay person, here in Canada, even I could have predicted they were lying about that.
  9. If that was the case, then why did they vote for the Muslim Brotherhood?
  10. So you're saying Western influences forced those people to protest in that square for days on end? Or Extremist muslim influences? as the obvious alternative to a strongman dictator appears to be a Muslim fundamentalist. As has happened in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya. Is fundamentalist Islam behind the Syria insurrection.
  11. Hey look that thread got bumped! Wait it's a Troll Bot. Bummer!

  12. Kay, this is about Egypt though. Are you saying the West should remove Morsi just to be consistent with their treatment of Libya?
  13. It always cracks me up when people think a Christmas Tree is something to be celebrated alongside the Nativity. A Christmas Tree has to be the most Pagan thing ever. Same with celebrating a bunny that lays eggs during Easter. People celebrate what they want to celebrate. Even if Jesus wasn't born December 25th, at least Christmas Eve is a time when people who don't go to church regularly attend, so it's a time to celebrate that at least.
  14. I think taking out Gaddafi was more to do with the fact he was slaughtering civilians and rebels. Which makes me wonder why the West isn't acting against Syria, I guess there benefits to the West are far more negligible. Doesn't most of Europe gets its oil from Libya?
  15. I heard on the news this morning that the Province is seriously looking at modifying the law to allow for more discretion in sentences. Won't happen until at least July. Way to late for Rob Ford, but at least it's obvious to most that automatic removal for any infraction is way too heavy handed.
  16. People assume uniting the Left will automatically lead to a victory. It's possible but how many people on the fringes of the NDP and the LPC will agree with compromising their values in order to potentially win. There are many in the LPC that have far more in common with the CPC than they do the NDP. Also people could easily move their support to the Greens and further split the vote.
  17. Yeah the Muslim Brotherhood spitting in the face of democracy once elected is the least surprising thing ever. It's not like it's happened everywhere else in the Muslim world, oh wait it is!
  18. Were you as critical of the system when the LPC were winning consecutive majorities because the right-wing parties were separated?
  19. Would make more sense for a pipeline to come out East, more people over here. They could stop at Thunder Bay couldn't they? Eyeballing it, that's only 3 times farther than the Pacific Coast from Central Albert but there are no mountains in the way. It's always bugged me that Eastern Canada doesn't get it's Oil from Alberta but the US does.
  20. 30% of the seats or 30% of the popular vote? 30% means squat in FPTP if the other part has 40+%
  21. This thread has gotten really idiotic in the hour or so I've been gone.
  22. That's why, as punked said early in this thread, these results will have little effect on a General election in 2015.
  23. I see Nucky killing Gyp. I didn't even see Van Alden as part of Capone's group. Though having him be forced to come back to Atlantic City like that would be very interesting. Sounds like more of a Season 4 plotline.
  24. True but that was before his lil bro lost his gig. Now who knows. I'd like to see him go against the Evil McGuinty empire myself. Well he was mayor of Etobicoke before the merger. I would only see him as a mayor until 2014 or a Byelection. I do like her. I think Ford was being rather unreasonable about the Subway claims. That being said, haven't a number of Scarborough Councillors flip-flopped on their intent on getting a Subway out to Scarberia? http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/toronto/ttc-to-study-scarborough-subway/article4650520/
  25. But the win in Durham is. Especially since the seat was vacated because the previous MP was scandal plagued. I honestly can't see an Alberta riding going LPC in a General election EVER! Especially with Trudeau Jr. in charge.
