Unions Using Teachers Using Students
Boges replied to Big Guy's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
It's not like the province was negotiating in bad faith. They were able to make deals with some school boards. Apparently if a deal had not been reached by September 1st, automatic raises were in-order so that's why a deal was imposed. -
How much does it cost to change a lightbulb? $2600!?

So the alternative then would be no pictures allowed in the school since in order to have them hung we'd have to pay a contractor a large sum of money to do that simple task. What if you used one of these things? http://www.artbycedar.com/images/hangingart5.jpg Shouldn't electricians run wires along studs so you don't effect the wiring by the simple task of hanging a picture? -
So do those Jerk Aussie DJs deserve to be fired?

They were bragging about what they did until the lady offed herself. So their contrition is only a result of the suicide and not because they did a really cruddy thing to those ladies. -

Again I think both parties suck here, if they could both lose somehow, that'd be cool. Also this isn't just about a wage freeze. They also want to claw back bankable sick days and freeze automatic raises that happen when you move up the grid by seniority. Many non-union public servants have had their wages frozen for three or four years. -

I'm sure they were, and rightly so. They likely caused the death of someone. But if you're willing to make someone an international laughing stock to get ratings, that might happen. Sure they may not have known if she was in a fragile state. But if any of us made international news for doing something foolish, I'd imagine we'd all feel pretty horrible. Others have probably killed themselves for less. That's why I find shows like Tosh.0, though very funny, rather unsettling at time. I only hope they get permission from the subjects before they broadcast those videos. -
Sure it was, technically, perfectly alright for the opposition to form a coalition months after an election where they never even brought the idea up. That's why Harper prorogued. Now if they were really serious about it they would have still tried to form the coalition later or ran an election with that idea in mind, they didn't. Clearly the idea to try and form the a coalition to preserve "per vote" subsidies was a bad one. It did force Harper to institute the Economic Action Plan but it also forced the Liberals to name Iggy the leader without a proper leadership convention and ultimately led to the Harper majority. He also used the threat of them forming a coalition again as a fear tactic in the 2011 election and I'd say It worked.

I'm not bothering with a link. If you don't know this story you've had your head under a rock for a week. Here's a synopsis: - Kate and Will are having a baby. - Kate has bad morning sickness and gets hospitalized. - Two shock jocks from Down Under call the hospital badly impersonating the Queen and Prince Charles - Nurse (obviously East Indian so perhaps not knowing how horrible the impression was) lets the call through. - Other nurse gives private information about Kate. - Sh!t say hello to Fan - First Nurse offs herself. - Looks like said Shock Jocks are going to lose their jobs. BTW one of them is super hot! http://media.heavy.com/media/2012/12/amazingrace-Copy.jpg Now obviously they didn't intend to cause such harm but I think they deserve the flack they are getting for this woman's suicide. They were jerks! Just as they loved the good pub they got internationally from the stunt they should own the bad pub they're getting now that what they did moved a woman to end her life. Thoughts?

You guys talking about the Coup? ERRR I mean Coalition attempt? If it was such a good idea they'd have stuck to their guns and still attempted the coalition after the prorogument was over. They were getting killed in the Polls taken following that stunt. It was a success in the way that it forced Harper to adopt a Keynesian agenda, where he previously had resisted going into a massive deficit to do stimulus spending.

Or the 50% that didn't bother participate in the Ratification Votes in the boards that were able to make a deal because the votes aren't secret. An NDP Ontario government is a troubling prospect with a $13 billion deficit. -

If teachers are now canceling ALL extra-curricular activities, they are actually really hurting students. Many students rely on extra curricular activities to help them get into certain post-secondary schools. It's a flat-out lie that these work actions are being done for the students just as it's a lie that Bill 115 was a putting Students first act. It's a putting Taxpayers first act. Something rare coming from this government. -

If you can't spare 5 minutes of your day to do a simple task then there's a problem. BTW in the story in the OP it's said that teachers want to be able to do these simple jobs because as wyly points out hiring a contractor will get you bill a minimum two hours of work for something that takes 5 minutes. But they can't because they'll get grieved. This is public money in a School Board that is in a very bad financial situation. I think common sense should be taken into consideration for simple jobs like this. For example, hanging a picture. The idea that you'd need to hire a contractor for that is mind-boggling to most sensible people. But even if you do have to hire a contractor the principal should have the discretion to call a contractor that charges a reasonable rate and not a Board appointed Union that can charge whatever they want because they have a monopoly on servicing the schools in Toronto. -

Well this is the problem then. Again we aren't saying that the Janitor should be doing electrical work. But screwing in a pencil sharpener? I don't think a contractor should be required for that. -

It's quite ironic that, when people that are part of the public service are challenged that their benefits are out of whack with what a vast majority of people in the private sector experience, they immediately go to the jealousy card. YET they also start talking about how the 1%ers get way more than they do. Talk about Sucking and Blowing. -
Wow! someone has way to much time on their hands. Very cool though. One mistake though. A minor character named Randal was killed by Shane, then his zombie was later killed by either Darryl or Glenn the tally would indicate Glenn. Second last episode of Season 2 right before Shane get shived by Rick. He probably should have been labeled as not a generic zombie.

But they have to hold to the same hours as the LCBO and can't sell beer. That being said the Loblaws in my town was giving free samples of an Irish Cream liqueur

Ontario Elementary Teachers Striking in December

Perhaps parents can give teacher's a card saying: "I would have purchased a gift but I had to pay for a baby-sitter instead since you went on that one-day strike" -

Some people work at a department store and move up the ladder and do quite well for themselves. Holding to the position that retail positions aren't "real jobs" is quite elitist and off putting. -
Yeah people who oppose allowing other businesses to sell alcohol are very anti small business if you ask me.

Sort of like how McGuinty ran on added an extra stat Holiday?

Imigratrion officials doing their jobs...finally some might say.

Yeah Eff borders! I would love to go the the US and buy alcohol and not have to pay duties. I think the problem here is that these people claim refugee status and benefit from government services and taxpayers have to foot the bill for their scam.
