David McGuinty quits for offensive Alberta remarks.
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
First of all a good number of the CPCs seats are from Ontario so to call them an Alberta party is ridiculous. There actually the only party with actual national representation. McGuinty was being a hypocrite. What about the Ontario auto industry in "National"? What exactly does making the Oilsands a national issue mean? Should the oil revenue be seized by the Feds and shared with the rest of the country above and beyond the huge tax revenue Ottawa gets from it? -
He can talk to them anytime. As mentioned before there are these things called a phone. What is it, other than more money, that the premiers want from the federal government pray tell? Wouldn't this just be a photo op like the India thing everyone seems so pissed about?

Olivia Chows "Penny Tax" as un-reported..
Boges replied to Fletch 27's topic in Local Politics in Canada
That's fine but the the GTA is a region. This thread is about Olivia Chow trying to levy a VAT to pay for Toronto infrastructure. That's not a problem the regions should worry themselves with. Each town has their own infrastructure to worry about, either that or a provincial road is dealt with on that level. Unless you want to put a toll both on major highways to charge people coming into the city, (like other major cities do) there's little the burbs should be expected to do. BTW where are you getting these GDP numbers? -
So, again, you're opposed to state visits period. Obama being in Southeast Asia now is a bad thing. Saw Harper on Question Period today. Seems like he was doing his actual job and not entertaining requests for more money by the Premiers. I wouldn't want to be in the same room with Dalton McGuinty either.

But you could say that about the entire region though. Mississauga is turning into quite an economic powerhouse too, but Toronto has had quite a significant head start in the way of urbanization. -

Well which is it 1/3 or half? Toronto Proper is about 2 million which is about 1/6 of the Province. But the Amalgamated Mega City is around 4 million people which is about 1/3 of the province. -

Black Dog said it was offensive to think that the GTA could support Toronto. I was just stating that in the past GTA communities had to send a Vig to Toronto to help pay for Social services. I'm sure Toronto thinks it's still entitled to that thinking that there are few homeless people in the burbs, they all go downtown to get their homeless on. -

I think the sentiment that the "Burbs" are dependent on Toronto is a fallacy. I won't go nearly as far as saying that Toronto needs the burbs but Many communities in the GTA are doing just fine. Lot's of head offices and industries are moving out to the GTA. They aren't just communities filled with cookie-cutter houses and Wal-marts. Mississauga is actually growing into quite an Urban place. If you're on the 403 driving by the City Centre you'd think you were driving by a real city. The public transit is pretty good there too. -

I know when I was a poor single person I would get GST rebate cheques throughout the year. I think a similar system would apply to this tax. -

I know this might come as a shock to people but I actually do think Toronto should seriously consider sticking a Toll-both on the Gardiner and the DVP. Something like $3 to get in but nothing to get out. I was in New York State recently. Toll-boths are everywhere. It costs $12 to get on the island of Manhattan!!! $3-5 a day is a reasonable price to pay considering the price of the GO-Train and it would curtail unneeded trips into the city by single parties. I don't think Mayor Ford would go for it but if Toronto's infrastructure is as bad as people are saying tolling the use of the Gardiner is a reasonable and logical solution to the problem of it crumbling. I doubt locals use that Highway very much anyway so it's a modest user fee. You could always avoid the tolls by taking Dundas, Queensway, or Lakeshore but that would take you a lot longer. I doubt people that drive into the city each day are actually that cheap. -
That wasn't my idea. I'm saying that an alternative to airstrikes would be an invasion and from an Israeli. But such a thing would likely cause more carnage. I'm not exactly sure what anti-Israeli activists think should do in response to Hamas' actions.
-
NO! wyly says that these agreements can be achieved by low-level bureaucrats.
-
I know it's off-topic but would you rather have had the US army invaded Japan instead of dropping the Atomic bomb in 1945? I'm sure Israel could invade Gaza to root out Hamas to avoid civilian casualties but that would come at a great risk to their own people. It's sort of the same principle.
-
Probably because, as Fletch opines, that all they'll do is shame Harper into increasing Transfer Payments. The Quebec PQ government is already screaming about all the transfer payments they've "missed out on". Which I find completely hilarious.
-
Doesn't Hamas purposefully fire their rockets in public areas near civilians essentially using them as human shields? Collateral damage is what Hamas wants.
-
So let's be clear, you're opposed to all state visits then correct? All head of states should stay in their homes and quit wasting money.
-
I'm sure you're equally as critical of President Obama going to Southeast Asia during the Fiscal Cliff talks right?

When did he say that and for what reason? -
Well they could always just use their border with Egypt for more rockets. Wait What?!?!?! That border is closed too? I thought all arabs were part of a mutual brotherhood.
-
At least when this McGuinty resigns he can't shut down the House as well. http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/11/21/david-mcguinty-resigns-shadow-cabinet-post-after-back-to-alberta-controversy/ I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on Alberta politics. But I do know that McGuinty and his ilk blaming Alberta and the "Petro-Dollar" for the problems Ontario is facing is an absolute copout. McGuinty should look at his brother as the primary reason Ontario is in so much trouble. Ontario's energy and fiscal policies are embarrassing.

Well the Sun led the charge accusing Council of giving this Foudulis man a sweetheart deal. It's interesting that the Sun and Sue-Anne Levy didn't get sued here. Interestingly, if I remember correctly, the deal this guy got was one of the reason's Sandra Bussin wasn't re-elected in 2010. http://fullcomment.nationalpost.com/2012/11/14/christie-blatchford-how-a-rich-restaurant-deal-raised-a-thrifty-politicians-eyebrow/ The deal was pretty shady.

Well Game of Thrones is based on a book. There are also plenty of characters to revolve the show around so losing Ned wasn't the same as having Nucky killed I'm not sure but it's possible, did you really think one guy could take a mob boss down that easily? That character Maceria is historic and in the 30's Luciano, Seigel and Lansky take him down. In any event his demise is sort of karma. I have no clue. At this point all he's doing is allowing Capone to get back at O'Bannion. No she was definitely eaten, he wouldn't have spent all that time in that room if her half-eaten corpse was lying there. In a show about zombie, is thinking one zombie can eat an entire person really the most unbelievable thing though?
-
No, but don't act like this was some overarching plot to rig the election. That seemed to be the sentiment when this story broke.
-
I think that they need to believe that the election was rigged. No way Harper got elected legitimately in Canada right?
