Which is why it may be better that Holliday gets the reins. You can't say those things about him. I'd say he was the main guy behind the Labour deals that were signed with the Unions without need for a strike. Even Doug is a bit more level-head than Rob. He's also not as fat so people can't use that against him. He actually lost weight during that Monday weigh-in fiasco earlier this year.

I've heard Olivia has a lot of stuff people can use against her in an election.

Merle and Darryl aren't in the comics. The way this story is going down is far different from how the comics went down. I have absolutely no idea what's going to happen.
-
It gets rid of Ford but it doesn't eliminate the sentiment that allowed him to get elected. If Doug Holliday gets named interim mayor, much of Ford's agenda will remain the same. If there's a Bi-Election who'll run? Apparently Rob can't but Doug can. Will Olivia fast-track her apparently mayoral aspirations? What about Adam Vaughan? It'll be very interesting to see how things go.

More like the Governor. If he sees he can't control Merle like a puppet he'll take him out. There's another bet. Who ends up killing Merle?

How many riding are "NDP strongholds"? Downtown Toronto used to be Fortress Liberal but now the Dippers are dominating South of Bloor.

Listening to an interview with Union boss Sid Ryan, by no means a Ford Fan, defending Ford. He compared what happened yesterday as Capital Punishment for a Traffic Offense. I'd have to agree. He also thinks the move to remove him this way could be a strategic error.
-
WTF is Voctoria? If you mean Victoria, the Dippers won that by a narrow margin and apparently lost huge support. If you're referring to Calgary Centre it was predictable it would be a tight race. I think Alberta is still a rather safe place for Tories.

Next week is the season's finale of BE. It's the mid-season finale of Walking Dead, until February. The reason I started this thread is that they are both on at the same time during the fall. I'll pick Walking Dead over BE any day. I watch it the next day usually. Both episodes should be excellent. But I'm looking forward to Walking Dead more. The entire season has focused on two separate worlds and this Sunday they'll finally meet. The Governor vs Rick element is actually far more interesting than it was in the comic.

Harrow isn't an ally of Nucky. That scene was just to establish that Harrow had no resentment to Nucky for killing his buddy Jimmy. The reason he killed Manny, was that he killed Jimmy's wife who was very kind to him. I think Harrow will end up helping Nucky inadvertently. He believes Tommy is in a bad spot living at that house and that Gillian is a wicked person that needs to be stopped. He also knows that the Brothel is now guarded by armed men for whatever reason. A sniper like him could easily take down a Gyp's hired goons. I'm not sure if he even knows the relevance of Gyp. He's been spending this time courting Julia and chilling at the Legion Hall.

I was referring to Ford. He was caught on a technicality that everyone on here concedes he could easily have avoided prosecution if he wasn't so stubborn. Now regarding McGuinty, the Tories were having hearings on how much corruption was going on in the decision to cancel the Power Plants. They were also moving forward with Contempt accusations against the Energy minister until Dalton took his ball and went home, shutting down the legislature.
-
Why? Harper prefers the opposition to be a far more stark choice between his party. The Liberals can bleed votes off the CPC. Outside of Windsor, The Far North and Downtown Toronto just about all Ontario races are between the Tories and Liberals. A strong Liberal party is bad for the Tories. If the Dippers are the alternate choice centrist liberals might end up voting for us. Let's hope Trudeau does more embarrassing interviews like the one he did in 2010.
-
Technically it was. But what decision hurt the public more?
-
The Mayor seems like a good guy. A CPC loss in the heartland would have been hard to take but I suppose the candidate was rather weak. The Liberals might have won if Trudeau and David McGuinty didn't pick last week to go full anti-Alberta. :-D

Just watched the latest episode of BE. Simply fantastic! The Season Finale this week should be incredible. It's so interesting how they can make Al Capone such a sympathetic protagonist. He comes in like the Riders of Rohan to help Nucky in his fight against Rosetti. Such a flip on the way history sees him. Don't think everyone's favourite guy with half a face Harrow is going to make it out of this season. Looks like he's going for a Last stand against Gillian.

If the Greens can win more seats they'll just be taking them away from the Dippers and Liberals. Good news for the CPC.

As I've let this incident sink in I must say that someone so stubborn and bull-headed probably wasn't long for this job. He had many outs in this situation in order to keep his job and he took none of them. He even apparently killed himself during the trial pleading ignorance. Hopefully if they do call for a Bi-Election he'll either run or throw his full support behind a less confrontational conservative like Stinz or Halliday. But to deny that this was a political stunt by the left to remove Ford from office on a technicality would be denying the truth. Ford fell for it but to say it's just justice is a bit much. If the incident was so detrimental to the integrity of council one of the many anti-Ford councillors would have taken him down and not a few busy-body policy wonks and an activist lawyer who took on this case pro-bono. As a conservative though, I find if very hard to take that a man like Dalton McGuinty can cling to power after such a blatant conflict of interest in canceling two power plants to win a few seats at the cost of hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars and when the legislature tries to take him to task on it, he can just take his ball and go home. BUT over a trivial amount of money Rob Ford can lose his job. Just doesn't seem right.

Would have been interesting if the Greens won in Victoria. Liberals finished fourth in that riding! LOL Is the reason the Calgary Riding was so close cuz of the meddling mayor? Ontario CPC support is still strong! 50% for O'Toole Jr.

It was a good video. I do wonder if the narrator would show similar skepticism towards other scientific theories that explain the origin of the Universe. I, myself, find the idea of String Theory to be a crazy unsupportable theory with little in the way of concrete evidence to support it. Or at least any I've heard. Also just like atheism itself can't be soley identified by those who militantly reject all religious ideas as dangerous. Theists shouldn't be thought of as blindly supporting unsupportable facts just cuz. I liked the part where he defines agnostics. I think more people are agnostics than anyone realizes.

But as a Liberal you also have to see the irony in applauding a heavy-handed ruling because the judge had no choice to use discretion. When I started a thread about this I think most members agreed that Ford was in the wrong but didn't deserve to lose his job over this.

Judge removed Rob Ford from office
Boges replied to Sleipnir's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Wow! Wrong Forum and you didn't check there are already two active threads where this issue is discussed. -
He's done a lot of what he said he'd do when he was elected. - Remove License sticker surcharge - Labour Piece with Unions while saving money - Pass a budget spending less than the previous year - Contracting out lots of services - He would have stopped the Bag Tax if someone idiot decided to turn it into a bag ban (which the city is now being sued over)
-
Well there are a lot of questions that need to be answered. Can he run in a byelection? While council force a byelection? Who's interim mayor? How will an appeal go, and how long will it take? If this gets dragged out for another year or so then there really is no point in having another election.

Apparently Smitherman Tweeted "Touchdown for Accountability!" Is there anyone in Ontario who's been held to account for his transgressions less than George Smitherman?
-
Well I think a mandatory sentence regarding a violence crime like, say murder, and this is quite difference. There is irony on both sides though. I'm sure many people that normally would oppose mandatory minimum sentences when applied to criminal matters are applauding what's happened today.
