  1. The funny thing about that is that back then ETFO held out while the rest of the Unions made a deal. They ended up, I don't know how, having to settle for less. This is to fix that problem. Also that raise won't happen for over a year. Hopefully by then the Liberals will be out of power.
  2. I think that needs to be changed. It should be provincial. Region is very abstract. You could say Ontario and Quebec are part of Central Canada.
  3. Doesn't Ontario and Quebec already have almost half of the current number of Senators? The Senate isn't fair as it is currently. Why does Quebec have more Senators British Columbia?
  4. The interesting thing about the contract, I heard. Is how they wiggled around the whole Pay Freeze while still allowing young teachers to automatically move up the grid. Apparently every teacher has to take a furlough (Rae Day) over the term of the contract. I'm sure senior teachers are thrilled about that.
  5. Just saying. Nothing new to see here. I like how reporters harassed Ford today. Asked him the same questions no less than 5 times. And this time he gave an adamant denial.
  6. Even if it's true he didn't hear the sirens, doesn't a responsible driver ever look in the rearview mirror every few minutes or so?
  7. Always anonymous sources, no actual evidence or people (other than the original three people) saying anything on record.
  8. They'll say it's still cheaper than allowing them to bank 100 sick days for retirement. You really have to treat them with kid gloves though eh?
  9. There's going to be a VIA Strike. Wait people still use VIA?

I still use via, for example last Christmas we travelled to Calgary via the Coquihalla highway.

I use VIA from time to time. Planes don't fly everywhere.

And for a trip like Ottawa to Montreal, a plane doesn't really make sense.

  10. Well the person in question has since been removed from the PMO. Of course if you believe the PM ordered him to do such things that's fine. But you don't have evidence of that do you?
  11. Who cares a Senator spent $90,000 he shouldn't have and the PM painted his plane blue!
  12. Sure, I don't disagree. I do ultimately think this a vote finding operation. However we do see from the 2011 Federal election. Landed immigrants don't just automatically vote Liberal, often the opposite is the case.
  13. This is probably going to happen. Though the vote was very close. The constitution specifically says you have to be a Citizen to vote in Provincial and Federal elections, says nothing about municipal elections. The argument for, is that the local governments deal with issues so integral to daily life that more people should have a say. Obviously you still have to be a resident of the jurisdiction.
  14. Perhaps all political parties colours should reflect the flag. In the US the Democrats and Republicans both use a form of the flag in their logo. The difference is an animal as a mascot. To me the paint job is a reflection of the Royal Canadian Airforce colours more than the CPC's colours anyway.
  15. I think you'll find many Senators of both parties did similar stuff. To imply that the PM has to own the actions of a few of his appointed senators is ridiculous.
  16. That's not the point. You aren't harming anyone by not wearing a seat belt. Why is it illegal not to wear one?
  17. So I assume you oppose Seat belt and helmet legislation too.
  18. What do people want from Hudak? Not be Conservative? He ran the last election as McGuinty Light. Not really putting forth a platform that was much different that the Liberals. So in the past months he's been putting out policies on how he'd be different. What is it that he needs to do to make people think he's worthy of anther election? McGuinty lost his first election and was allowed to fight another one. And if not Hudak, then who? Lisa MacLeod to make it and all female affair.
  19. So McGuinty will quit his seat today. You gotta think this is coming from Wynne. If Wynne wanted to really separate herself from the stink that is McGuinty she would have kicked him out of the Liberal caucus today. I heard on the radio today that the OPP might be able to unearth some of the deleted e-mails. I wonder what they were trying to hide.
  20. People shouldn't say booze or tobacco are more harmful than pot. You could say abuse is more harmful but as I said, tobacco and alcohol is consumed responsibly by many people without the need for a high. I don't oppose pot but it's a quicker more efficient way to create a high level of impairment. I don't think it should be mainstreamed like alcohol, advertising and sponsorship. Treat it more like tobacco sales, except if I were an employer I'd fire someone who was taking a pot break at work as opposed to people to go smoking at work. The 3 drugs are very, very different.
  21. I can think of many better ways to access your files than with the Start button. But it's been like that for so long people freaked when they got rid of it. I find it amusing.
  22. For purely professional purposes, you can't beat a desktop computer. But most people are doing their basic web browsing and social networking on a mobile device. I personally don't get the tablet craze. You have a device you can take anywhere with you in your pocket that's as powerful as a tablet, plus it can make phone calls. I just use my 4.5" phone to do much of my mobile computing. I can't justify the purchase of a tablet. I said in the Windows 8 hating thread that I feel no need to upgrade my PC. There are few things I need the PC for. Then again I'm on a desktop computer all day at work. (a Mac )
  23. Especially since the use of PCs are declining. That looks like a super computer that very few people use. Especially if it'll cost up to $10,000 or more. Kind of looks interesting though.
  24. Not for long if the current government gets its way. I'll just simply disagree, that the sick day benefit is good for a workplace. I think employers can find much more pragmatic solutions to deal with issues of health and time off due to sickness or injury.
