  1. From what I hear, there are a lot of High Skill jobs available. It's just people like to go to school and get educated in fields where the prospect of employment is low. I'm sure someone trained in an in-demand trade would have no problem finding a job in Canada.
  2. Osha is a better version of Theon Greyjoy. The Starks took her in even though she was the lone surviving person in her Wildling group that tried to take Bran hostage (Ironically I think it was Theon that killed the guy that was holding Bran) She saw her second chance as a blessing and vowed to protect the 2 Stark boys. Unlike Theon, who betrayed the Starks for the family that gave him up. I think there are more nobel characters in the show that you list. Sansa doesn't seem to have any evil to her, other than the early snobbiness seen by any teenage girl. The 2 Stark boys haven't shown any evil streak, ditto with Samwell. Sam's story is rather tragic and he's using his brain and luck to survive in a horrible circumstance. I don't see any fault in Jon Snow. It would take a very moral person to blow his cover because he didn't want to kill an innocent old man. That trait is seen in Arya too. She habours justified hatred for the Lannisters and the Hound. More than not, you see rather innocent people finding themselves in bad situations and doing what the need to surive. Brienne of Tarth, Gendry and the Stark boys are examples of this. It's the evil people that are more nuanced and who make GoT's far more interesting.
  3. The episode was named "Rains of Castamere". That was, apparently, the somber song the band played after the bedding ceremony. Red Wedding was what it was called in the book.
  4. Just being clear, it's not about Walmart, it's about large retailers of any kind. Wonder what would happen if they wanted to put a Canadian Tire there.
  5. You could say that about any supermarket. I think Mike Layton was bitching about Loblaws too. So it's not just about American Box Stores. It's about places that sell lots of different stuff. Carrying a 2-4 on a bike would be good times.
  6. McJobs Blah Blah Blah. Don't forget about Duffy!!! It's nice that these jobs are 100% private sector.
  7. Wouldn't that be the case for any retail development in the city? This building has a parking lot doesn't it? I saw one in the the picture. As a side note. How do people who live in a downtown core, who don't use cars do the suburban tradition I partook in last Saturday. I emptied out my basement of empties of beer bottles and liqour bottles, drove to a beer store, returned them for a sizable discount on a new case of beer. How do you even buy a case of beer without a car? I guess you could use a cab.
  8. I read Gawker blamed the Star for the disappearance of the video because they published details of where they viewed the video, perhaps making finding the people involved easier.
  9. Clement used to be part of the Harris Tories. Maybe that's what she's referring to. Regardless protection against private energy providers isn't something I'd credit these Liberals with.
  10. http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/story/2013/06/05/toronto-kensington-walmart-petition.html If enough people don't want a Walmart in a certain location then people won't go and it will fail. The fear here is that, people think the Walmart will succeed and put people out of work. Seems very anti-freedom doesn't it? Regardless if you like Walmart, or not, they provide a service and they employ lots of people. Whenever I go to a Walmart it's usually in a strip mall or conventional mall with many other businesses. There are also usually other independent businesses located inside the Walmart. Are we to believe those business are all suffering located next to or inside a Walmart? It's obvious other businesses can survive in a community with Walmart. Walmart is a one-stop shop stuff. I don't go there when all I want is food, or when all I want is clothe. I usually go when there are other things I want, whether it be some clothing, a small appliance, a furnace filter, shoes, or toiletries. Almost all retailers sell products made in China or other foreign countries so that argument is no longer valid. This Walmart isn't going to be a gaudy big box. It would be a the top two floors of an existing building, the bottom floor will likely have other businesses. It's a very urban version of the chain. I think the opposition to this smacks of elitism and is very un-capitalist. You think a tourist to downtown Toronto would go to a Walmart instead of Kensington Market? or people that want to go to the food market would say screw it, let's go to Market. If you were to believe that then you would believe that any community that has a Walmart currently doesn't have a farmer's market or any boutique stores that sell high-end items.
  11. Yeah, having highly paid civil servants disclose their salaries (including people that work for the CBC) doesn't sound like something the Liberals would support.
  12. What's the most scandalous about this is that they must have been deleting these e-mails for a reason. We already knew they cancelled these plants for purely political reasons. So what more scandalous behaviour were they trying to hide here?
  13. I just heard on the radio that they've admitted that instead of deleting stuff, they've gone to opening up Gmail accounts so they can do government business off the record.
  14. Boston has only lost one game since the Leafs series. Sorta of makes that collapse harder to take. The Leafs were 10 minutes away from a series win. Now the team that beat them is one win away from the finals. Kinda like rubbing dirt in a wound.
  15. Hey, I think McGuinty is the worst of the worst type of sleazeball. I'm not a legal expert though. You seem to have thought this out very through very comprehensibly. I'm not going to argue with your statements. So saying I don't think he should have criminal charges tabled against him was more a case of me seeing this in practical way. I'm just wondering if the police of the legal system will even take this on, it'd be nice to see these crooks get what they deserve, but we'll see I guess. It seems the media is picking this up and it won't go away like the Liberals would like.
  16. You could say that we don't want to see the kind of budget cuts and scandals we saw from the Liberals in the 90's so the Harper Conservatives are still the way to go. People are always criticizing Harris for doing what he was elected to do, while ignoring that the Federal Liberals were doing the exact same thing. Harper could never get away with the kind of downloading and budget cuts that Chretien got away with. Opps Triple Post.
  17. Apparently the PCs are going to OPP with this now. You might get your wish gullyfourmyle.
  18. Is a defence of saying they saw a video that "appears" to show Rob Ford good enough? They never said it was Rob Ford. They also made it clear these videos were "unverified". Of course this thread is evidence that people are going to take that information and do with it what they will. Ford's silence the first week didn't help the situation either. Now that it appears the video isn't going to be seen by anyone, anytime soon. Perhaps now is the time to sue. But I doubt Ford wants anymore of that kind of publicity.
  19. When you consider the Province of Ontario publishes every civil servant that makes $100,000/year it's rather odd that the Feds don't do this. Upping the threshold to like $400,000 is pointless. I agree with this guy. But taking your ball and going home won't exactly fix the problem.
  20. Well this is what finally made McGuinty realize he couldn't go on as an effective premiere. So he quit last year and put the house into paralysis for months. Though I loath this government, I have to say I'm not as offended by Kathleen Wynne. She seems to be very competent and has done a lot to try and repair some of the mistakes the McGuinty government made. But she's on the verge of making new mistakes by levying many new taxes on Ontarian's to pay for long-term transit improvement. I predict that of all the scandals that McGuinty was a part of, it will be these proposed "revenue tools" that will ultimately end it all.
  21. There has yet to be any real evidence Ford smoked crack and with Duffy we're talking 90k. The senator was kicked out of caucus. And who bribed the chief of staff? With the Ontario Liberals we're talking about a government that cancelled 2 gas plants for purely political motives that will end up costing tax payers more than half a billion if not a billion. Added to that today it comes out that senior staff wilfully and illegally deleted emails to cover their tracks. I'd say this scandal is a bit more serious.
  22. It's really offensive that people are in a tither over Mike Duffy and Rob Ford's minor scandals when this government continually gets a pass on their scandalous behaviour.
  23. Nor does it come with a fine. It's basically a useless law. Perhaps this will change stuff.
  24. Well apparently they did break the law. http://www.thestar.com/news/queenspark/2013/06/05/ontario_power_plant_cancellations_privacy_commissioner_finds_indiscriminate_deletion_of_emails_by_top_liberals.html
  25. Episode 7, There was a cool bear fighting scene. The reaction to this is pretty amusing amongst the interwebs. Even John Stewart commented on it last night. I think people look for good guys and bad guys in the shows they watch. The Starks: Good! The Lannisters: Bad. But for GoT it's a little more murky and complex than that. Jamie and Tyrion appear to turing into good guys. Catelyn, while driven by the love for her children, was never all that nobel. Rob was as expendable as his father, nobel people that didn't play the game very well. Cersei, on the otherhand, appears to be the most evil of them all (until Walder Frey, did what he did) But she loves her children just as much as Cat Stark. She was seconds from sacrificing her son rather than see him fall into the hands of Stannis' army. Cat betrayed her son just for the faint hope that Sansa and Arya would be released. All these characters doing what they do is what makes this show interesting. People who hate the fact that the "Good Guys" got killed probably shouldn't be fans of the show anyway. That being said, it was a well done but, brutal scene.
