  1. What I find funny is that they don't seem to care about the cell towers in their area. I stopped using cell phones because I'd get a headache if I talked on them for more than 15 minutes. Anecdotal, yes. But I'd fear EMF's which are listed as possibly carcinogenic way more than turbines... but this turbine issue seems to get the majority of press time... maybe because of the idiots who protest along the NIMBY lines while trying to seem reasonable make it funny.
  2. Teachers already offered/accepted 0% increase. Government didn't want the teachers to accept, the government wanted to pass this legislation. They can't abandon a battle that targets their right to bargain. If they abandon this battle, all future battles are lost.
  3. I don't feel like Michael was supporting teachers. There is a clear difference in pointing out the flaws in one's argument, and supporting the opposing idea.
  4. I wish this discussion was more productive and less emotive.
  5. Why don't we just fire overpaid executives, there are plenty of underlings just waiting to replace them.Open up the playing field and lower their wages by half. Why don't we just fire everyone who makes a good living wage and rehire them at minimum? Plenty of people to replace them when everyone is fired. Bunch of leeches on the corporate profit teat. Disgusting.
  6. Newsflash: teachers voted something like 92% in favour of strike action. How many engineers who are already in demand... are going to be flocking to this 40k/year job that will not take into account their years of experience? Especially knowing that conservative minded people want them to be paid dirt... Good luck. You'll get unqualified hacks like the Catholic system hires out of the wazoo.
  7. Odd... The only poll I saw done had more support for the Teacher's than the governent. Wasn't a majority but, even 45% support was higher than I expected.
  8. Yep. that's exactly what we want. Fire all teachers regardless of qualifications may work somewhat in elementary. Won't fly in secondary unless you want the swarm of history majors teaching math, physics and construction.
  9. Which is strange because it consistently seems that reality has a liberal bias. Today a conservative argued that it's not up to the government to understand the practical applications of a policy, just the end goal of said policy. So, if cheap interest rates only encourage consumers to take on debt to drive the economy and businesses sit on their hands. That is not the concern of government. Odd viewpoint.
  10. A fact many miss. I have not seen fair headlines from the MSM. "TEACHERS REFUSE TO TALK TO PARENTS...... (hidden in article: "outside of regular day". no mention that teachers will still actually be talking to parents and sending emails/making calls.)
  11. Calling parents outside of school time is not in the contract. Meeting parents outside of school time is not in the contract. You don't expect your doctor to call you after work hours. Just saying.
  12. The ship stinks of vermin and mismanagement. Even if it stays afloat, wouldn't want to stay on it?
  13. I have a solution to unemployment. Ship them to Alberta. Problem solved. AMIRITE?
  14. That isn't true. If you decrease supply, it becomes more expensive and alternatives are developed. We are treating fossil fuels as a renewable resource. Pump as much as we can and sell it. If we factored the true cost of these fuels to the people who own the land and fossil fuel prices skyrocketed, we'd see real renewable energies take off. I drive a small car and family car. Fuel efficiency is a major part of my purchase decisions. I cringe at all of the people using SUVs... They are underutilized most of the time but, burn extra fuel all of the time.
  15. Alberta oil is particularly dirty oil in the energy required to extract it. I honestly feel guilty every time I drive into work... won't lie. But that 25 minute commute saves me 100,000 on the cost of housing, not including interest on the mortgage
  16. Here's where our governments did differently... They printed money out of thin air and gave it to consumers as loans that have to be paid back.
  17. OK. So... someone standing up for believing that the Government should not make laws that put them above the constitution, above court challenge, and above labour laws is irrelevant. Right. Conservative dream fulfilled. Let's just bring slavery back. Section 14 and 15 of "Putting Students First" Legislation puts Government above the constitution, charter of rights, challenge of courts and labour laws. You want this to become common place? I don't.
  18. Social media bullying is affecting girls more than boys, it fits into the emotional/social/backstabbing bullying nature of girls. I was bullied throughout my elementary years. My friends called me a gentle giant because I was always taller than everyone else. All of my bullies were female, I suppose the males were too scared to pick on me. Though I'm now an adult, it has left its mark on my psyche and I still get sometimes severe anxiety when someone in my peer group pokes fun at something I do making me the centre of attention, even though after the fact I can logically work out that it was in friendly jest and not mean spirited. Now, I was lucky because social media wasn't ubiquitous... you couldn't just text message behind peoples backs, point and laugh at them. Afterschool I was with friends. I wasn't receiving hate mail, I wasn't receiving texts calling me gross/more horrible things, they weren't posting pictures of me taken by cellphones. Today it must really suck to be the target of bullying. We should be doing more to stop this harassment.
  19. Heheh. First off, "includes" unqualified experts... OF COURSE THERE ARE PEOPLE STUDYING AT IPCC... Science is an academic process, including having a new set of eyes looking at the subject matter. I'd rather people working toward a PhD than the alternative of right wing climate "expert". How to be a right wing expert on climate change: Talk loudly, be convinced of your opinion whether facts support it or not, never back down or hint weakness by acknowledging anything about alternate points of view or information that does not align with your opinion.
  20. And from what I read, parents who actually give a rats buttocks about their child can still call and talk to the teacher about progress. Or go to parent teacher interviews... This report card comment fiasco is assuming that all parents are lazy and don't care about their child's progress.
  21. And just what ridiculous "demands" are the teachers making?
  22. Raise Taxes (Add PST to items under 4.00)... hope government uses money wisely to actually pay off debt (lol) Education - Streamline wages to have a lower peak but, higher starting wage. Health - Fee for non-emergency use of emergency clinics and hospital. Cut subsidies/tax breaks to healthy industries.
  23. My bias to question the obvious bias of a tabloid style news station? Ontario is still a massive contributor to the federation We are BARELY a have not province for equalization payments. It's hard to be a have province when you are stuck with the entitled baby boomer generation whose kids are moving out west or internationally and are not supporting services. Politicians have very little control over the economy, they can influence a bit by slowing downward trends with a cushion or push a boom with investment. They can make it a bit worse with massive cuts in a slow down making the drop a bit steeper and deeper. But they are really just reacting to the work of the market... not their divine intervention. Canada should be a prime example for this... we've been doing alright but... without the world economy recovering, we are still in a lull. Stephen Harper will claim it is his responsibility we are doing better than most but it's not. Economics 101... you can't control the free market.
  24. Sun News. News for idiots. Comedy for sane people. Is the Trillium comparison really necessary? Employment is related to boom/bust, not political figure. Surplus is debateable. They were fudging the numbers and left a 5 Billion dollar deficit after Eves. Have and Have Not, we'd still be a have not province with a high dollar. Proroguing the Legislature is questionable.
  25. I think there is a clear and defined limit of one year. But it's an argument of semantics and our connotation of the word indefinite. They didn't set a timeline.
