Provincial Liberals are dead in the water. What would an alternative be? If Harper prorogued to step down, I wouldn't be against that. But he prorogued to avoid backlash.

Are you suggesting that Dalton is really a conservative?

I wouldn't be celebrating just yet... If they put someone charismatic in, Hudak won't be able to compete... Oh who am I kidding hahah. Who the hell would WANT to take over the Provincial Liberals at this stage.

Just heard it on-line. http://www.thestar.c...cguinty-resigns I wasn't expecting such news this evening. Ontario Parliament is prorogued. Is he thinking of battling it out with Justin Trudeau for Federal Liberal leadership? Because that would be the Conservative parties dream.

It's hilarious. Democrat- Rational and thought out, hard worker, contributed to the economy and raised a family (biggest contributor to the economy) Republican - He's a communist, just study it out. No, I will not explain it. You should know. Facts to back up my bombardment of idiocy? No, if I keep saying it loudly that makes it true! It's pretty much how I feel like when talking to any of our resident conservative ideologues.

Because, 40 years ago businesses trained workers for a job. Today, businesses expect their workers to be trained before they arrive on the job. If businesses went back to training their own workers, this ficticious "no one qualified for the job" crap would end. It's a story about the entitlement of the business class. -
Pharmacists should be able to prescibe/renew a certain set of medications for non-life threatening situations. Obviously, narcotics should be excluded. Flu shots is a move in the right direction. Renew birth control pills? Makes sense. Renew blood pressure pills? Makes sense. Renew recurring medication? yeah. Makes sense. Doctors seem over burdened and removing the simple yet additional time consuming stuff is a step toward improving our system. It will free up time for more serious issues.

I too question a certain member's authenticity as a non-troll. ... But, unless you selectively did not read the sections of the act deeming it higher than court challenge, the constitution and the human rights code you could not come to that conclusion? Because you originally said that the constitution should be held as supreme law, trumping leglislation. To me, regardless of political stripe, that is something to strike for.

Bolded part shows proof of only reading right wing rag media on this issue. The MoU that Hudak and McGuinty forced through in the legislation still gives young teachers limited grid movement. (about 75% of normal) Anyone who had actually been paying attention and reading from many sources would know that. 60% of teachers are receiving no wage increase regardless of the outcome. 40% of teachers (YOUNG) are getting a raise anyway, it's in the MoU the Catholic union agreed to without having their membership or local leadership vote on. Their grid increase is being cut by 25%(6 months lost out of 2 years) and will save tens of thousands of dollars over the course of 10 years per teacher. All teachers are taking a pay cut in unpaid PD days. So, they aren't fighting for raises. They are fighting the arbitrary assignment of terms and conditions to their work environment and compensation. They are fighting for their right to bargain equivalent cuts that are more palatable to their profession.

Capitalism and government regulation
MiddleClassCentrist replied to Moonlight Graham's topic in Business and Economy
The biggest problem we have is that the corporations that are supposed to be getting regulated... get their faithful employees placed on regulatory bodies. Monsanto employees a regulatory body? WTF? This is why our regulations act as barriers to entry and do not actually solve issues. They don't want competition and they don't want to change their business model. It should be ILLEGAL for anyone with vested interest or prior attachment (unless deemed a whistle-blower to poor corporate compliance) to sit on a regulatory body. -

Sigh... Have they ever truly worked in favour of the average person? Get the money to the top and watch it "trickle down" has never really worked that way. -

Actually it does. Letting people die when they want to will reduce the burden on our planet. -

I agree with this too. It's your life... why can't you choose to end it peacefully? We have enough people on the planet. -
Sure sure, as long as you choose to stop following the ridiculous right wing talking point of tax-break vs subsidy. Purposeful confusion for idiots who don't know how to use a dictionary. sub·si·dy (sbs-d) n. pl. sub·si·dies 1. Monetary assistance granted by a government to a person or group in support of an enterprise regarded as being in the public interest. 2. Financial assistance given by one person or government to another. Tax breaks are a form of financial assistance. http://www.renewableenergyworld.com/rea/news/article/2009/10/the-u-s-government-has-a-long-history-of-financing-energy-infrastructure Of course you would doubt it. It doesn't suit your opinion to realize that private businesses have long been subsidized in a variety of forms for "the good of the economy". Tax break subsidies, direct subsidies, removal of regulations are all forms of aid even if you don't label them subsidy.

Liberals crammed through poorly written legislation to ban strikes... And yet there seems to be the possibility of a strike occurring according to some media outlets. I'm confused... I know McGuinty is the biggest liar in political history. But... the "Putting Students First" act was to block strikes... or was it really only to claw back teacher benefits without going through the bargaining process? and to try and win some by-elections? Why is it that Ontario Government says it will not automatically block strikes? At least they got the part about restricting the rights of teachers is correct. The legislation itself states that it can't be challenged in court, and can't be checked against the constitution/charter of rights. No minority government is above the constitution. I haven't heard my teacher friends complain about not getting a wage increase... "As long as they aren't going after class sizes and resources" one said. They are just angry at how the government has been treating them and demonizing them. The Ontario government is really trying to politicize this thing more than it ever had to be.
