  1. Why do you ignore the real problem? Teachers are now less than human according to the goverment. They don't have access to the human rights code, they've been barred from challenging the legislation in the courts (the legislation itself says so). The minister of ed can, and has, changed tentative local agreements that school board and local union have signed off on. The minister can reject deals struck by boards and local unions. The minister can reject deals ratified by both local union and school board. The minister can impose a deal, after effing the process the whole way through. Teachers can't do a full strike because the legislation says they can be sent back to work without consulting the legislature. The real problem is bill 115. A draconian law that should have never been implemented. What exactly do you expect? Them to bend over and spread their cheeks? Extracurriculars are the last resort, i hope you realize that.
  2. I'd like to note. The Minister of Education can declare strike illegal under Bill 115. But she can't stop political protest. Political protest is a democratic right. Under Mike Harris, the weeks of walkout weren't strikes. They were political protests.
  3. Note: Media outlets again are misreporting this issue. OSSTF cancelled negotiations because Laurel Broten tossed out locally negotiated agreements. The Ministry of Education has been changing signed tentative agreements and sending them back. These agreements are getting tossed out as not part of the bargained deal. 1984 is now. Media is running a blitz against teachers through misreporting of information. Truth is not getting reported. Apparently, it is only the big union bosses that are the problem. The union bosses negotiated contracts. The rank and file teachers did not ratify in York and Niagara because of the excessive powers the ministry has to change deals agreed upon at the local board level.
  4. Not elementary, needs to be baptised Catholic. Secondary is a free for all.
  5. You can't send your child to Catholic elementary without being Catholic. FYI.
  6. Still waiting to hear of any catholic boards that have any contracts. Saw some rhetoric from the catholic union about the public deal but, as usual nothing of substance.
  7. Do you not know how to use a web search? " ontario teacher performance appraisal form" Found the union page that has the info -> http://www.osstf.on....6c-c18ea7c892b6 "Teacher Performance Appraisal System for Experienced Teachers Summative Report Form Revised (Word, 112 KB)"
  8. Update 7 Boards have tentative contracts. Still, NONE are Catholic.
  9. 6 BOARDS HAVE TENTATIVE CONTRACTS. None are Catholic. Just saying.
  10. Looks like 5 public boards and 0 (ZERO, NONE) Catholic boards have a tentative agreement. Legislation and agreeing to a deal without your members input really works (lol Catholic system)
  11. Must be because of those strong Catholic ethics/morals they teach.
  12. On twitter, it's rumoured that two public school boards have negotiated contracts with teachers. It's also important to note that in this entire fiasco... even the supposedly "already accepted" Catholic system. NO CATHOLIC BOARDS have actually developed a contract.
  13. Personally, if I was a commuter I'd just buy my goods outside of the city.
  14. I did agree with it in the my other post for that reason. In Toronto, the opposite is true. They pay a much lower level of property tax.
  15. That would be a bonus for cities with commercial centres/tourist attractions. It also makes a bit of sense to help absorb the cost of maintaining infrastructure for out of town guests.
  16. Fletch, I don't know why you are so angry at teachers. But I'd like to apologize on the behalf of teachers, since I come from a family of them. I hope you eventually realize that teachers are not the prime evil of our modern society.
  17. Can't municipalities increase property tax?
  18. The practical application of your system does not work. Coaching is not part of teaching. Let's just remove it from school and leave it to community like they do elsewhere in the world. People have strange expectations of North American teachers... At least coaches in the states can make big money for doing it. Students vary from one year to another. Should a teacher be punished because they have the more challenging class? Are you really arguing that? The more challenging class with behavioural students brings more sick days, more stress and lower grades because the students aren't high achieving. Parents like teachers that their child likes. Children like teachers who make things easy on them. A child does not recognize the difference between a challenging class meant to drive learning, and an easy class meant to drive grades higher. Students often mistake the easier class for better teacher. "I just understood this more last year." yeah. Because last year the teacher never gave any complex problem solving questions.
  19. Do you volunteer after hours for your job? In addition to regular work? I agree on the extra curricular point. Parents should be allowed to provide them with proper background clearance and behaviour management training paid at their own expense.
  20. Why should a private organization be required to do so to the public?
  21. Leaving it to the courts will take 7 years or more... Job action puts pressure on the government to avoid making more draconian laws and maybe smarten up by perhaps negotiating a contract, instead of having bankruptcy lawyers form a set of forced parameters.
  22. What do you mean by "biological" explanation? There have been people diagnosed and tested positive to sensitivity to EMF.
