I don't vote for JT. I support the right and the left. I don't support alt-right crazies or the crazies on the left.

Mainstream media told me this morning.that 13 protesters had been arrested. They are protesting the cutting of old growth forest by blocking rush hour traffic: did you even hear about that from your oh-so-reliable sources?
-
Yet, if someone points out the disgusting nonsense from "the right" you lose your sh*t. "The left" isn't vile, any more than "the right" is; they each have their "vile" minority. Your attempt to paint only the left as vile is simply spewing hatred and creating division.

Says the guy who started a thread to launch an attack on an entire group of people.

Except the government.

Oh look, a Russian troll. May you enjoy all the fruits of your labor, in hell.

Yup. So I agree the government is wrong to be keeping him in jail. I expect that if/when this goes in front of a judge, any jail time will be "time served". Nonetheless, I think he's got a valid complaint against the government, and who knows, maybe at some time he'll have his day in court and be vindicated. But the hyperbole of "not being a free country" while not even knowing why he's in jail doesn't contribute to a reasonable discussion. Or even argument. It's just ignorance.
-
If it wasn't a free country, he'd already have been convicted and assigned a significant jail time. He's not in jail for what he said. He's in jail because he's been charged with mischief and counselling others to commit mischief, per criminal code section 430: 430 (1) Every one commits mischief who wilfully (a) destroys or damages property; (b) renders property dangerous, useless, inoperative or ineffective; (c) obstructs, interrupts or interferes with the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property; or (d) obstructs, interrupts or interferes with any person in the lawful use, enjoyment or operation of property. I know it surprises a lot of people that we have laws in Canada, and that breaking them has consequences.

Capital Gains Tax on Primary Residences
dialamah replied to ExFlyer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Solution is creating a system where people aren't reduced to begging on the street. This would require considerable political will and the support of Canadians. Right now, the government considers around $1200 per month enough to support someone who is unable to work - in a country where finding a bedroom in a shared house is $600 or more. Government could cut many unnecessary expenses, starting with MPs and Senators inflated salaries and pensions. They could implement tax policies that forced multimillionaires and billionaires to contribute to the fellow citizens well-being, stop subsidizing industry. I'm not suggesting that people who can't work, or seniors, need an income that keeps them on easy street - but enough for housing, food and medication should be guaranteed basics. I'm especially hurt when I see seniors, in wheelchairs and walkers, begging at stores and bus stations. In a country as rich as Canada, nobody should be reduced to that through no fault of their own. The problem isn't that we can't afford it, it's because there aren't enough of these people to be heard at election time, or over the sound of money changing hands between politicians and rich people and corporations. And of course, the people who are comfortable enough financially to say "We can't help everybody", when the truth is they don't want to help. -

This attitude is what I hate most about the Conservative ideology. -
As do immigrants; they aren't even eligible for social programs for something like two after arrival. Refugees get support, but they are a different class. And most of them are working after five years.

It's internet, but not high speed. It's probably cheaper to do that then ensure people aren't on the verge of starvation every month. Why shouldn't taxes pay for alleviating some of the discrepancy among earners? For example, my coworker, a single parent, and I have government jobs - we make below "middle class" wages. I'm doing ok, because I have a partner and no kids. But she's trying to raise her daughter on the same wage. She can't afford to buy so she rents - in metro Vancouver. She can't afford a car so she uses transit. I don't think she's bought herself anything new to wear in 5 years - all her money goes to living expenses and her daughter. Why shouldn't she get a hand? The adage "get an education for a better job" results in highly educated people working poor paying jobs because poor paying jobs are a lot more plentiful than high paying jobs. And someone has to do those jobs, too. There are many things gov spends money on that I disagree with. But I support programs that help those who cannot work, or who worked all their lives and now find themselves living in poverty. Neither group should have to find themselves out begging at the end of the month. I support programs that help even out the huge disparity in incomes between most of us and the top 10% (although not to the extent that there is no difference.) Spending that helps people is more important than spending that helps institutions like NATO or the military or corporations, imo. -

This makes no sense; It's not like only 10 Canadians are working, and the other 37+ million are getting handouts. Most Canadians work and pay taxes, so it's not like they're getting "free stuff", even if they get a tax break or something subsidized. The only people who are given "free stuff" (ie they don't pay taxes) are people who are unable to work, either permanently or temporarily. If the government really wanted to fill their coffers, they'd focus on corporations, not workers. -
This is what immigrants do: they come to Canada, become Canadians and raise more Canadians. Children of immigrant families become indistinguishable from their non-immigrant peers in terms of their cultural attitudes and beliefs - that is, they become integrated. If they're white, you'd never guess their parents/grandparents were from a different country. This is what happened in your family, just as it happens in virtually every immigrant's family.

I was completely unaware of it till I arrived on this site in 2015. I liked Harper well enough to vote for him; what turned me against him was when he withdrew funding for third world clinics that provided abortion services. His attempt to limit the ability of scientists to speak out was also not a good look. I voted for Trudeau once, and will not again. I'd vote conservative again, if there was a candidate I could get behind - so far no luck. It might be a case of holding my nose to vote. Keep in mind that just because so many on here are fanatically partisan, it doesn't mean everyone is.

It's stupid because real dictatorships have leaders with names like Kim Jong Un and Putin --- but you seem to think expressing yourself freely on the internet without being jailed or "disappeared" and being able to protest on the streets without being shot outright is equal to such places. It's utterly stupid and you deserve to be mocked.
-
The other day I read on this forum that Trudeau is one of the movers and shakers for the NWO, leading the international community as directed by the WEF. Today he's an international joke. Sure wish the conspiracy lovers on here could come together to form a coherent conspiracy.

Yeah, some places are reducing hours because they can't get enough staff.

There's been no proof of a concerted and deliberate attempt to misinform across all of mainstream media. There have been "got'cha" moments about which you folks crow, but which prove nothing more than incompetence.

Trudeau Gets Slammed At NATO Meeting

The hit to the economy might explain the lack of interest. IMO our Western society has grown too big and divided to really get together on anything. -

Masking is a tiny issue, something that is easily taken on as a cause. Laundering 130 billion dollars is a huge issue, too hard to take on. -
When was the last time you were beaten with no legal recourse? Last time you were raped and could do nothing because you were his property? Last time you weren't allowed money, were fed just enough to keep you alive, had your children taken from you. Never? That's what I figured. Slavery sn't a government you happen to dislike.

Do you think paying taxes is "stealing"? Or is it only stealing if it helps people who are disadvantaged in some way?
