Liberal set to drop nuclear bomb

What Issues are most important to you?
Canuck E Stan replied to Timetrvlr's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Why is voting for the Liberals not a gamble,it was for the last 4 elections. Each time we the voters lost. Isn't it time to stop kidding ourselves that these guys care, that to them it's only words to get elected and after the election is over it won't matter anymore? Where are their strong values, every day in this election the values and principles change in their platform just to try to please the voter in order to get votes. I'll give the odds to the other guy this time. -

And I can only look at what we have had to endure for the last 13 years with cuts in healthcare, education and military. The same promises made and broken, election after election and each time with assurances they will kept this time. Each paycheck means tightening the belt a little more because the standard of living hasn't improved in twenty years. Costs keep going up,and the government is acting like some corporation proudly presenting surpluses like they were in the business to make money. Meanwhile the homeless population grow, two incomes in a family are a necessity, families are out of touch with each other because the parents can't be home with the kids. Places like Value Villiage are booming, crime is increasing, and the country in general is going nowhere fast. I'll take my chances,I'll gamble, what's a few years on the road to improvement. My kids have the rest of their lives, maybe getting a taste of what good government of the people might be all about will make sure something like the last thirteen won't happen again. -
Eureka Melanie At 650,000 spaces, where are the provinces going to get the supplement money to pay for all these centres, and the daycare workers high wages, benefits, pension plans, health costs. Ontario's 25,000 daycare spots are costing Ontario $44,000 each. How is this going to cost less than the Conservative plan?

Economist says Tories gave him incomplete platform
Canuck E Stan replied to mar's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Where are those figures on the Liberal Warehouse daycare plan? Ontario's cost for the 25,000 daycare spots is presently costing Ontario taxpayers -$44,000 per spot. How much will 650,000 spots cost with the Liberals plan? Another gun registry? No,something even more expensive. -

For me it's Democratic Deficit. Among the changes I would like to see are powers removed from the all too powerful Prime Minister, A fixed election date. An elected Senate would begin the process of the provinces being able to decide who represents them. I would also like the Senate to be a 6 year term and not a lifetime position. Rules about a person's crossing the floor, made to be independent until the constituents vote and say it's ok. A government that's accountability would also be right up there. It would be refreshing to have government that actually asks Canadians and not tells Canadians. Hopefully Harper has heard the message, if not, the line forms behind me to vote him out. -
Tory growth will keep Bloc down, says Lapierre Lapierre seems to agree with Harper on this.

Congress of Aboriginal Peoples You are right about off-reserve aboriginals-from their site: "Representing off reserve Indians and Metis people living in urban, rural and remote areas throughout Canada" The Liberals were the only party that didn't respond to the letter. Somebody wasn't doing their homework at Liberal headquarters on this one.

A little bit thick on the hour or two to their place of enployement.I'm sure most Canadians don't spend that much time. And if they did they would have to leave even earier to get the kids to the daycare. Does taking them to a daycare not require dressing them up? Parents would love to take their kids to a daycare at work instead of driving across town in a mad rush to a daycare. They could still interact periodically with their kids during the day and have them when work is done to head straight home instead of driving to the daycare before closing.

Confused and Concerned
Canuck E Stan replied to ProudCanadian1191's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
I'm not going to question the Caledon credibility but I was hoping to see a comparision to the Consrvative plan and to the Liberal and NDP plan.I've read it three times and all I found was why the Conservative plan wasn't any good.Where is the comparison to the other parties.Apples to Apples. I did see some numbers that were interesting from the report. So I guess the first question is, if they had compared, apples to apples, to the other parties what would the advantage be to the parent of these different income groups by going to each party plan, based on a weekly or monthly cost. The second question is in regards to the study being done without knowing what most families use or how much it is costing them. The study to me is incomplete if they don't have the numbers for private child care that they say MOST families use(ranges from modest for some family based care to expensive for nannies and designer child care centres) and who's COST THEY DON'T KNOW. This is where most of the families use daycare and it should be a known in making judgements in this study. Without these two questions answered I don't believe a judgement can be made that the Conservative program isn't any good. I would want a comparision to be between all the parties and done including the figures for the majority of childcare users. Then there is the question of lack of access that even Quebec's $7.00 a child per day has for a lot of families. How would that be resoved by the Liberals and NDP? Just looking for answers. -
Just thought of a good slogan for the NDP. Public Health Care- "Can't save your life,if your money depended on it."

Canada is a country of immigrants. Immigrants don't think Warehouse kidcare. They think one parent stays at home to take care of the kids. They believe in raising their own kids, just as their parents did in the old country. Dad may work two jobs,Mom stays home.Mom works cleaning offices at night,Dad stays home . Has anybody done a analysis on who uses daycare? Bet the majority of users aren't immigrants or new Canadians. I would say most of these people would rather raise their kids at home because that's the way they believe it should be. The hardship these people endure with language problems and just trying to adapt in coming to a new country tells me $100 will be more appreciative in helping raise their kids than Warehouse kidcare.

It is asburd to suggest this missle shield will accomplish anything useful. It is basically a make work project for the US military industrial complex funded by US taxpayers. That said, Canada should sign on because it does not hurt us (the US is not asking for us to pay for anything) and it would win us some friends in Washington. And win us some money in building it. We have tons of techonolgy and manufacturing firms that would love to jump all over this, create some high-tech high paying jobs. I can't really see any reason to oppose this, especially since it will happen regardless if we agree or not. Canadian companies lobby for missile shield contracts You're right, it would bring lots of work on this side of the border if we agreed with the Yanks.

Biblio Bibuli, At the rate things are going I probably still am conservative(cautiously optimistic). Either way I think we know the outcome(cautiously optimistic). Layton's appeal to Liberals to get some representation and forget about this bunch (and work on the new Liberal party) and vote for the NDP,made me think some Liberals in Quebec will do the same and vote Conservative in order to get some representation and cabinet seats on the government side of the House. In any event Jan 23 will tell the tale. -CES -You're on!

Eureka Kimmy I think your right Kimmy, there will be much written on the blogs that have affected the election. The soldiers in the street ad that was pulled but made its rounds in the blogs for all to see before MSM did. Jounalist are now quoting Bloggers and using them for source information. Look what Dan Rather went through with his expose a few years back and the bloggers burned his story. Bloggers have played an important part of this election and have become a source of checking the MSM stories that are presented in limited space or limited time. Blogs don't have editors cutting parts of the whole story, and don't worry about what their audience thinks. In Klander's case, should have. Bloggers will be important for the next government to watch because blogs will be our eyes and ears on how they perform.

Eureka, You're a hasbeen. A pompus know-it-all who at one time in his life was involved is a fringe party that went nowhere. You tried to convince people you had a better answer to Liberal government back then, to no avail. Then you moved on to the NDP, which until recently didn't suit you, and now you're defending the same government you tried to change with your fringe party. You are the one sad case.
