Not without some costs, as Canada pays directly and indirectly through lost influence, loss of "middle power" status, no "seat at the table", yada, yada, yada. Trudeau struggles even to get a rotating UNSC seat. China has exploited this global affairs weakness, and will continue to do so. The differences were violently defined over 240 years ago.2 points

FDA pushed through scores of inaccurate antibody tests without agency review Since the Trump administration was asleep at the wheel while the US was being infected with Covid19 they hastily tried to let anybody who wanted to make some quick fraudulent cash to put out an antibody test. The Trump administrations solution "everybody take two tests"! can't make this shit up. "guess i wasn't so bad after all" George W Bush1 point

I wrote a couple of articles to a local newspaper two months ago. One got published. One was going to get published but never did. Instead, the journalist I was in touch with switched jobs. Not sure if the article below had anything to do with this. Hopefully not. =========================================================================== CROWN LAND We all have our interpretations of land definitions - private land, crown land, city land, public land and they all conjure up images in our minds. The vision that comes up in my mind, when crown land is mention, is that of forests , mountains and streams teaming with wildlife and fish; undisturbed by any human activity. The secondary image is that of the golden crown on the head of Queen Elizabeth II; not that it really matters whose head the crown is on. We supposedly have unimpeded access to crown land and can use it for recreation; this is where the remaining wildlife is trying to survive. Wildlife are other forms of life very similar to us by having typically two eyes, two ears, a nose, a mouth, four limbs and a tail, something that we lost along the evolutionary curve. They have blood, warm as ours and of the same color; they have the same emotions and can express themselves well within their environment. We can understand them too, if we chose to, but that wasn't to the benefit of the crown so the Queen turned a blind eye on them and called them property. The poor souls did not speak the Queen's language and could not defend themselves in court, so there went all their rights. Hardly a surprise, considering slavery was originally abolished in 1833 but can be argued, still exists today and that racism and discrimination are alive and well around the world (no matter what some might tell us). Land occupied by wildlife became up for grabs. Humans rushed into it with excavators, chopped it to pieces, pushed wildlife away and killed (or humanely euthanized) the rest. With the land cleared they could start building their homes and businesses, thus obliterating the habitat forever and making it useless for any life sustaining functions. There were no trees to absorb and hold up moisture or to produce oxygen and biological material that sustains the cycle of life. However those humans taking residence had their own biological needs , demanding food to be provided to them from the remaining healthy ecosystems that still functioned properly. Demands of course grew. Under the right system which treats people as a commodity, the human population exploded and the disposition of crown land continued in full force. They called it "development", "growing the economy" or "creating jobs". Some of us noticed animals were being wiped out and getting close to extinction, but we would still not recognize and rectify the problem. Foundations were created; non-for profit organizations were started and funds were raised to save species - tigers, lions, salmon, whales, bears, elephants; well of course every species could go on the list for the very basic reasons that they were dispossessed of land, their food was stolen or their waters and air were polluted with toxins. In addition, their environment was filled up with objects posing new threats - ropes, fishing lines, plastic bags and bottles, glass, lead, fast moving vessels, vehicles, trains and airplanes. Wildlife continued to serve as food for us. Their peace and quiet was forever gone. But we would still not rectify the problem. We camouflaged the mayhem behind the sophisticated terminology of "sustainable practices", "environmentally friendly methods", "green" and the "millions of dollars raised" for this or that cause. The uncomfortable truth is that anything raised originated from the pillage and plunder of the land. The even more uncomfortable truth is that crown land does not belong to the crown or to humans only. It is common land that is there to be shared and the only thing that needs to be managed is our numbers, as nature has so far taken care of managing the numbers of anything else. But keep in mind that the government does not collect property taxes from wildlife; neither income taxes, nor GST or PST or carbon tax, or licenses and registration fees. To the government the wilderness is of zero value unless developed and exploited; and here we are in an economy of constantly growing population chasing our tails on the "forest service" roads, servicing the forests and promoting the new destructive project which will turn a healthy forest into a wasteland. Isn't our world run like a giant Ponzi scheme, where new players are needed to sustain the future gains of a few up the pyramid? Those schemes that inevitably fail bringing everyone involved down with them. Poor wildlife and poor us, at least those of us who can realize where we are headed.1 point

Former Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull has written an autobiography, and in it he talks about how Trudeau suddenly backed out of the TPP deal at the last minute, while all the other leaders were waiting for a photo op. It certainly makes a mockery of Trudeau's braggging that 'Canada's back!" on the international scene, and goes some distance to explaining why Canada really doesn't have much in the way of friends anymore. Former Australian prime minster Malcolm Turnbull has accused Justin Trudeau of “humiliating” other world leaders during negotiations for a revamped Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal in 2017. In a just published autobiography, Turnbull said he personally felt let down by Trudeau and upbraided him for embarrassing other world leaders when he failed to show up for a critical meeting. Turnbull said he was scheduled, by coincidence, to meet with Trudeau after the no-show and the Canadian prime minister seemed more interesting in talking about his socks than the previous meeting. “Justin always wore perfectly tailored suits that fitted like a glove, bright socks and on this occasion two-tone shoes,” wrote Turnbull. “‘What do you think of the socks?’ he asked, crossing his legs as he sat down. ‘Justin,’ I said, ‘we’re not here to talk about your socks’.” https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/worried-about-offending-trump-flaky-trudeau-humiliated-fellow-leaders-during-tpp-trade-talks-former-aussie-pm1 point

Canada is not going to lift a finger to do anything, we are perfectly happy with letting someone else do the heavy lifting...until we change our attitude, I say bend them over the table once more BC.... How are we in this again, by standing on the side lines shouting go USA go, we don't live up to the minimum standards set out by NATO, nor do live up to the ABCA and new Zealand, defense pact , so I'm confused if we are in it together then what are we doing about it.1 point

Canada is trying to navigate a changing world with very few options. Canada has no Plan B. China can easily smell the weaknesses and vulnerabilities, engaging in proxy battles without directly confronting the world's reigning superpower. Being a "post national state" may serve political interests in Canada, but America has attracted far more immigrants to a very much American experience with higher risks and opportunity. Coca-Cola is a world brand. Different countries....will do things differently. Canada should do Canada without demanding that Americans do the same.1 point

Agreed, but Canada has been very naive to expect otherwise and depend on a USA that has such domestic and foreign policies. China has exposed Canada to the realities of global competition and power, forced to acknowledge the old "post WW2 order" is breaking down. Trudeau and Freeland are living in a past that no longer exists....America cannot and will not continue the "Grand Bargain" as before. If America diverted military spending to domestic programs instead, it would still be criticized by Canada/NATO/EU. In the end, the U.S. will have to live with its choices, and Canada will have to live with its own. Edited to add: More immigrants still prefer the U.S. over Canada...for over 100 years.1 point

Then maybe some Canadians should stop pretending that "big brother" America is going to attack China with ICBMs. China is a global superpower that is not going away.....has existed for over 5,000 years.1 point

I am no expert on this subject, but I have to ask: since "assault weapons" (and legally, that means nothing) are not the main source of gun violence in Canada, why would you be so bound and determined to even give a damn about them??? Agree, they are in now way "necessary" in some ways, but let me take you down another road that is a lesson learned from our Southern neighbours: the Liberal/liberal growth in Canadian government since Turd.....geez TRUdeau Sr. has been focused on destroying Canada's armed forces and turning them into a social engineering project - seriously compromising our ability to defend ourselves and contribute to the defensive obligations we have to the world and particularly our allies. With the defense of Canadian soil being so highly compromised, taking the basic tools of national defense out of the hands of the public only works for me by returning the DND to a fully funded, non-socially-engineered MILITARY defense force. Until I see that, I am in no mood to tolerate ANY reduction in my personal freedoms whatsoever and ceding them to a national government that has clearly demonstrated it works only to dispense special privilege to its friends - at the expense of its citizens. Now, if we are prepared to be extremely and brutally honest: take a look at WHO commits the bulk of gun crime in Canada. If you want to fix the problem, stop bringing Asian and Caribbean drug dealers and gangs into the country - and send the offenders the FCK BACK to where they came. Our problem is not guns, it is drugs and gang violence that the government seems to cultivate instead of police.1 point

You do know that Adam Schiff [Demmie] is the Chair of the House Intel Comittee, right? Do you think that the Dems lack access to intel?1 point

When you see these kind of statements about a group of people why are you surprised of the reaction (Trump's election, far right rising) ? When you talk down to people from a moral high ground you think they will invite you over for tea to exchange ideas ? No, people become radicalized because of people like you. Start looking at yourself first before you lecture other people, you are no better than those "pigheaded yahoos". As a matter of fact you need each other to still be relevant.1 point

can you cite something? no, of course you can't.1 point

"Dutch intensive care doctor Jan Bakker is working in New York through the coronavirus crisis. He is exasperated by the American healthcare system and the inequality it highlights. "What this crisis has made clear is that the US healthcare system is pretty much the worst system we know in the developed world. It is best if you have money and want to get every possible treatment until your last breath. But if you're broke, you're screwed," Bakker said in an interview with Het Parool." https://nltimes.nl/2020/04/28/dutch-icu-doc-exasperated-new-york-youre-broke-youre-screwed1 point

Unlike with Oil demand is still there. Millions of people aren't working right now. I've saw on TV that it's a packaging issue. These suppliers are used to selling things in bulk and not to grocery stores. People don't want to buy 50 lbs of flour, they need to buy 10 lbs of flour. They don't need an entire sub-primal they needs a 3 lb roast. That's the adjustment that needs to be made. I understand why it's cheaper to throw food away than to package, distribute and then donate it. But as society we need to find a way to facilitate that somehow.1 point

Not being able to keep food in the stores is the first step to a destruction in civilization. That's why I never got the panic buying. If it every comes to a point where Toilet Paper isn't being made, you'll have bigger problems then buying toilet paper. I don't suspect we'll starve in North America, I just find it interesting/perplexing that we can't get this food to market. It's being made and because it can't get processed or it can't go to its intended source at a restaurant, it's more economical to throw it away. That's crazy!1 point

? Why are you stating the above? The issues raised regard the intersection and coexistence of all homo sapiens with wildlife not just some homo sapiens. You want to start a thread blaming natives for failed government policies or being stinkers, start one. Also start one dividing who pollutes the earth based on their religious, ethnic, political, and sex preference. Knock yourself out. Crown land was not a concept created by natives, it was created in spite of natives. You miss that irony.1 point

You may have heard there is a major extinction event happening in the world now. Headlines like this can be found, but you must google for it specifically. World Leaders, Media Ignore Biodiversity Report Detailing Mass Extinction Event Now Underway (May 24, 2019) We don't give a crap about species extinction, it means gone forever. No more re-spawns. We don't talk about it because the solution does not appeal to us. It means less wonderful technological conveniences. So carry on raping the environment and playing video games, and bitching about your politics, all we fucking stupid apes.1 point

I agree, the future for Canada should be to protect its still-vast boreal forests and natural places. I dislike the term "resources", as though they are there only for the market. Same as I dislike using the term "Human Resources". It needs to be protected all the more so now, both land and water, because of the huge industrial demand by the tech industry, and Canada doing trade with huge countries, and Canada has no real industry of its own. In Canada, the industry is the Boreal forest. That threatens to consume all this nature, the technological society desires to turn the forest and all the richness that it has, all the life and beauty, into a cell phone.1 point
