I didn't hear about this because I don't read the Sun. It's odd I didn't hear about it. A reporter having to be taken to hospital, attacked out of the blue at a political demonstration in the media capital of Canada - Toronto - and the media collectively ignores it. That's kind of strange, isn't it? Ah, but he's from the Toronto Sun and was attacked by far left protesters. The narrative the media has been embracing is that of the evil Trump and his minions threatening the press. If that had happened you can bet there'd have been major coverage. First I heard of it, though, was in a commentary on the CBC site today. Robyn Urback makes the above point, that the story has largely been ignored because it doesn't fit the proper narrative. Our largely progressive media likes to portray all the political problems as coming from the right side of the political spectrum. The far right are evil. The far left, well, y'know, their hearts are in the right place. I personally take the position the far right and far left are mirror images of each other, and can be collectively described as vermin. And what did the police do, who were watching? They watched. Apparently they had the same sort of orders as the geniuses gave to the cops in Charlottsville last year. Don't intervene, even when you see violence, because that might escalate things by angering the crowd. I'd say whoever gave those orders needs to be removed from any oversight of policing. You don't witness violent attacks and sit back with your arms folded doing nothing. http://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/toronto-sun-rally-1.47839334 points

One has to wonder whether young women who choose to wear face coverings in places like Canada are mainly doing so as a political statement rather than out of religious belief. Perhaps it's become a form of fashionable self-othering? But it also raises the question of whether these women truly understand the Islamist ideology they so openly appear to espouse? The most vocal critic of female Muslim religious wear I ever met was a women with whom I worked when volunteering a couple decades ago who'd fled post-revolutionary Iran. She vociferously criticized fundamentalism and its manifestations as being inherently inhumane. So, the fact that younger women in the West are choosing to adopt these habits, and that self-styled progressives are willing to champion this trend, seems even more problematic than many analysts seem willing to admit. To me it's not a manifestation of "freedom" but instead seems to represent a reactionary form of sentimentalist self-delusion. I guess we're all free to delude ourselves but to assert face covering as amounting to progressive accommodation is so 'unwoke' as to make rational beings cringe.3 points

Yes, the CBC, although often fairly described as exhibiting progressive bias, can at times provide glimmers of objectivity. Neil Macdonald's piece on M-103 is a great example of this. The other side of the point, however, is that the Sun and the chain to which it belongs are often dismissed for assumed ideological bias, including by some on this site. It seems the kind of ideological tribalism that's come to dominate U.S. political discussion has had an impact on this side of the border. I guess it was inevitable.2 points

Notice how they crucify him now.....for stating just the obvious. For almost a decade now, some of us here have been saying that multi-culturalism isn't going to work. People tend to group together. We have to have immigrants who see no problem or conflict integrating into Canadian society, and embracing Canadian values. Progresssives want to point out that Canada was built up by immigrants. Yes, that's true. But, immigrants from where??? I hope Canadians wake up.2 points

No way....seems you are far more interested in what happens in and around Israel....not human rights violations in Canada. Trudeau and his "human rights" agenda are inviting targets given Canada's history and present.2 points

What the left seeks to ignore is Islam. To them, that is some vague silly religious thing that, of course, no one pays much attention to other than a very, very few crazy people. So what it says is of no importance. Oh, it might say a very nasty things, but what can you expect of religions. The old testament says nasty things too, so no biggy. They don't believe in religion so they presume the Muslim world is the same. And any information to the contrary is just 'islamophobes' or 'xenophobes' talking.2 points

Stories of Kamakazi pilots? I assure you they were quite real. Banzai Charges and Death Marches, as well. Japanese soldiers/sailors/pilots would not surrender.2 points

I think the most interesting aspect of Bernier's commentary relates to his assessment that Trudeau is promoting the creation of ethno-racial-religious political tribes that can be bought off with taxpayer dollars and special privileges. In other words, Trudeau is the ultimate political cynic, playing off the interests of varying groups against the broader interests of the Canadian population. And yet he dons a moralistic stance when sonorously condemning anybody who dares to criticize his diversity agenda when the inherent moral flaw is in his own program. The term hypocrisy barely touches on Trudeau's capacity for duplicity.2 points

I was refering to caucasians. The census includes South Asians (India and Pakistan) as visible minorities yet they are caucasian ("white"). Non- "whites" (everyone is brown, just different shades of brown) are black Africans, Chinese / Japanese/ Koreans, etc.1 point

Unfortunately things don't work in a way that even if people elct a government which is very pro-multiculture and when they get fed up with it and elect another government which is not so pro-multiculture and the new government could just unravel the work of the previous government. A harmful government can do a lot of irrepairable damage. There will be elections in Sweden in three weeks time and very anti-immigration Sweden Democrats are tipped to become the largest party with estimated 26-30% of the votes. Even if they become the largest party the other parties are likely to gang up on the SD and keep them out of the government. However, even if SD one day wins an absolute majority and could legislate as they wanted do you think they could just kick out all the foreigners. It just doesn't work that way.1 point

Ha ha, you're so wrong in almost all your points, but I've already explained this many times. We don't do IP theft, nor do we "dump" lumber or other commodities. We have a strong tech sector and sophisticated manufacturing, but you fail to see the whole picture, focusing only on data that supports your argument. From time to time the U.S. goes after us on the sale of some of our resources/commodities primarily because we produce a lot of them to meet high demand, in construction for example. Are you proposing quotas (lol)? Also, don't even try to slam Canada on auto productivity. You're repeating misconceptions again to try to make what you want to be true a reality. We could say a lot about how Trump's actions are creating trade mayhem. He's now trying to rally a boycott against Harley Davidson because it is trying to maintain its market share in the E.U. AFTER TRUMP CAUSED A TARIFF TRADE WAR WITH EUROPE. Trump is interfering with business. The more he engages in this practice of escalating barriers, the more his policies will be questioned. American farmers are getting anxious. Trump is one guy. If he screws up, he will be replaced. Same goes for Trudeau. With regard to Canada, suffice it to say that businesses and consumers decide which businesses to patronize based on the factors that they deem to be important. Canada is overall quite competitive. If we weren't, most businesses in Canada would suffer. Some businesses flourish and others fail because either they successfully meet demand or they don't. That's how business works. Consumers have many choices. In a free market economy, their decisions take precedence over what one or a handful of people in government think people should want. Below is an interesting old article regarding what happened to the most productive auto plant in North America. Being productive is obviously just one factor businesses have to consider. Doomed GM plant is most productive Rankings show GM plant slated to close takes least time of any in North America to assemble a car. By Chris Isidore, CNNMoney.com senior writer May 31 2007: 3:59 PM EDT NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The most productive auto plant in North America is doomed - it's on the list of plants that General Motors is closing as the world's largest automaker slashes capacity in a bid to stem losses. The annual ranking of auto plant productivity by Harbour Consulting found GM's Oshawa No. 2 plant is the most productive in the North American auto industry. GM narrowed the productivity gap with its Japanese rivals in 2006, according to a study released Thursday, but its most productivity plant is slated to close next year. That plant is among the plants that GM (Charts, Fortune 500) plans to close in coming years as it seeks to get capacity closer in line with demand. The Ontario plant, which makes the Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick LaCrosse and Allure, took only 15.68 hours on average to build a vehicle in 2006. That's an improvement from the 16.08 hours it took in 2005, and is better than the 16.34 hours it takes to build a vehicle at the neighboring Oshawa No. 1 GM assembly line.1 point

Betsy is trying her best to equate Trudeau to this .. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/apr/26/saudi-arabia-criticised-over-executions-for-drug-offences But hey at least the women are free now to drive in Saudi Arabia. And women got their chance to vote FINALLY after all the years back 2015. Good thing Betsy is in Canada. or she would be jailed for even posting what she posts on this forum. If she was allowed on the Internet, and if Saudi Arabia did not block this site. https://www.cnn.com/2017/09/27/middleeast/saudi-women-still-cant-do-this/index.html1 point

Political Islam is essentially this: 1. Big Mo decides he is the next Moses or Abraham...whatever...The Prophet...and the final one...to boot. 2. He informs the Jews. They say thanks...but no thanks. 3. Disgruntled by having sand kicked on him by Jewish bullies, he goes to the gym and does the mega-muscle program...with steroids. 4. He returns to the beach...err...desert...and gets his revenge. 5. Impressed by how quickly he dispatched the "bullies", he takes the whole show on the road looking for more folks that disagree with him.1 point

We were at WAR with Japan and there was a great deal of fear, because we were largely unarmed due to people like you, that we would be invaded. Small likelyhood there'd be fear of local Japanese cooperating. Especially given the lack of sophistication of the people at that time. Nor can the Japanese be used to dismiss concerns about the Muslims. There never were very many of the Japanese around. Even today they're something like a quarter of a percentage of the population. More Muslims come into Canada fresh from the middle east every single year.1 point

This is the part the liberals seek to ignore- these people have already declared war on us. Certainly the Wahhabists have. Look at the mocking cartoon they published in their hyper-aggressive response to Canada's pathetic tweets about human rights. This was published by a social media branch of the official Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.1 point

I have many doubts about the Liberal basic income program, the biggest being that it would certainly encourage able bodied people to not work for themselves and encourage lifelong dependency. Here's a perfect example of what would have happened with large numbers of people in Ontario had this program continued. https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-taxpayers-shouldnt-be-paying-for-free-rides I do get that those with physical or mental issues do need help and should get some kind of assistance, but I draw the line for those who don't want to contribute and just freeload off the system.1 point

Hamas and the PLO are STILL fighting the Six Day War...just adding several decades to the number. Take a moment to read-up on the 1967 Arab League meeting which gave us the Khartoum Resolution with its infamous "Three Noes". It happened the September after the Six Day War (June). That's the playbook they are using... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khartoum_Resolution Almost everybody else involved in the Six Day War has made peace with Israel. The notable miscreants are the PLO/Hamas (etc) and Syria. Syria...being practically a former Warsaw Pact member that never saw the Berlin Wall fall. Russia's baby...1 point
