  1. The new poll says 2/3 of Canadians think we have a border crisis with illegal refugees! https://www.huffingtonpost.ca/2018/08/03/canada-border-crossings-poll_a_23494958/ Blair and Goodale came out doing their spin, saying that we are "mis-informed!" Heck, so we don't have a crisis? What do you call it when we're up to our eyeballs in deficit - and we are in a trade war - and here we have to put this steady stream of refugees in hotels, providing them with social benefits! If the government is prepared, as they claim they are........WHY ARE REFUGEES BEING PUT UP IN STUDENT DORMS AND HOTELS??? Why do you have to send people to the USA to explain that the "open invitation," isn't really open - that our Justin was only kidding? Why do you have to put Blair in a new portfolio that's already being handled by Goodale? Heck, how much are those travels and new Blair new position costing us Canadians? Trudeau is abusing Canadian taxpayers by charging everything to what he treats as an unlimited credit card! It may not be a crisis for Liberals ( being the spenders) - but it sure as hell feels such a crisis for the ones who are paying for it! Can we cancel this credit card? F***! We can't! Canadian taxpayers are at the mercy of the Liberals! Yes, they're illegal border crossers! They've already entered the USA as refugee claimants! https://www.nationalreview.com/2018/03/refugees-enter-canada-immigration-laws-not-enforced/ Of course, issuing an open invitation to come to Canada.........makes it a whole lot worse! So, we're "mis-informed?" Blair and Goodale are rubbing salt by practically saying............Canadians are stupid!

  4. Canada has a steel industry that employs Canadians. U.S Steel is one of the players. I realize that you only see the economy in terms of how it serves American interests, and we could have a discussion about how U.S. tariffs on steel will raise business costs in the U.S., just as softwood tariffs raise building costs for home buyers in the U.S. The big issues are this scorch and run policy the U.S. is taking with allies, the environment, and banking/financial services; and being asleep at the wheel on the diplomatic savvy of China, Russian manipulation, and cyber security. Your Jenga puzzle is getting a little tall don’t you think?

  7. Like what, Canadians prefer hockey over football? From my travels I got the impression that people in Toronto are much like those in NY or any big city, people in Vancouver are like people in California and those in Alberta, have similarities to those in the south, specifically Texas. There isn't a valid argument as to why Canadians should considered themselves Canadians, you're all just Americans with some sort of self inflicted allergy of hating America. The reason steel and aluminum tariff got place on Canada was due to steel over production in china and dumping tactics they used to get their products to the US by relabeling Chinese steel as Canadian steel. But as usual Canada over reacted and placed ridiculous retaliatory tariff on things not even related to our trade dispute with china. Canada should have just stayed out of it. Look at this list of silly tariff Canada placed on itself. You're only making life more difficult for everyday Canadians, the list of goods Canada is trying to implement isn't even going to put a dent in the US's economy so why do it in the first place, other than a feel good measure. This only hurt Canada more and un-necessarily brought Canada into a global trade dispute it very well could and should of stayed out of. " Strawberry jam remains on the list of 79 items other than steel and aluminum set to be hit with a 10 per cent tariff starting July 1. The original list, worth a total of $16.6 billion, targeted everything from whiskey, washing machines, steel and aluminum to orange juice, frozen pizza, beer, manicure products, boats, ketchup, coffee, nut butters and jams. Apart from the exempted items, the rest of the list and its value remain the same, Freeland said, and the government is prepared to keep the tariffs in place until U.S. President Donald Trump removes the tariffs of 25 per cent and 10 per cent he placed on Canadian steel and aluminum last month. Items that remain on the list to be hit with tariffs include yogurt, coffee, licorice, chocolate, prepared meals including pizza and quiche, cucumbers, gherkins, soya sauce, ketchup, mayonnaise, flavoured water, whiskies, manicure and pedicure products, shaving products, dish detergent, candles, glue and various types of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides. Also set to be hit with tariffs are plastic bags, toilet paper, serviettes, postcards, cast iron grills, combined fridge-freezers, water heaters, dish washers, household washers and dryers, lawnmowers, inflatable and sailboats, motorboats without outboard motors, wood-framed household furniture, mattresses, sleeping bags, pillows and bedding, playing cards and both ballpoint and felt-tipped pens. 10. That's why we don't like strangers in small towns. Them fake refugees who disappear can stay in the big cities, because, sorry we ain't got no jobs here! I don't think that's it. I for one am pissed off that the government is willing to give a free ride to anybody who crosses the border illegally, and has taken so many in that it will take years to sort it all it. Yet the government has no problem ignoring the plight of homeless Canadians, including children and veterans. Their message is and have always been that this was the best they can do. This situation stinks like ideological bullshit, and that is why people are very upset by this. The answer is not to give them "due process", as there's no reason to accept refugees from the USA. They should not be accepted at all, but immediately turned over to US authorities.

  11. And now back to the topic here. According to a poll reported today, more than two-thirds of Canadians think the migrant issue has become a crisis and almost two-thirds think the numbers entering are higher than Canada can handle. (Link to article about the poll is below.) And Canadians are also upset about the costs associated with the influx, with 58 percent indicating they feel the benefits provided the migrants are too generous. Most also believe that funding should be directed to border security rather than to assisting the migrants. Perhaps most interesting is the news that while the number of illegal/irregular migrants appears to be declining some arrivals are now utilizing other recently arrived illegal/irregular migrants as "anchor relatives" to enter the country legally at official border crossings. Wow! This whole thing is becoming a complete mess and is generating significant political friction for the Trudeau government. I think the only thing the federal government can do at this point is create a fast-track assessment and removal system and shield this from Charter challenges by invoking the notwithstanding clause. Business as usual is no longer possible. https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/influx-of-irregular-refugees-has-reached-crisis-level-for-most-canadians-poll-suggests

  12. Of course it will be. Short term pain, long term gain? How long? Who knows. But the alternative to keep doing the same thing you are doing now, and hoping for a different, better result is not going to work. Question is why now, why after so many years of people warning that doing trade with certain countries are bad trade deals that lead to eventual poverty of your nation, why did they wait until now to take action when it's so late in the game? Perhaps it is a ruse, just as the tariffs are a ruse. Trump does not seem to want tariffs, because of his enthusiasm after the meeting with Junckers. Possibly he sees them as a means to an end. The desired end result is and always has been, US dominance. There are issues at play here that go far deeper than just simple, one-dimensional analysis. I for one would prefer US because it's better than Chinese dominance... Russian dominance... Indian... Pakistani... Malaysian... Mexican... even European. Look at the EU, run by an elite group with no obligation to look after any one group in particular. Instead, they dictate their terms for others to follow. Most people who live under it can't stand it. People want control over their destiny, through self-determination. Hence the reason Americans elected Donald Trump.

  13. Speculation says that these people...including the PM...have a connection. What it is...who knows? But I'd go so far as to speculate they all have connections beyond that, too...Boyle...Khadr...those three other guys w/ big cash payouts...etc. Aga Khan? Sky is the limit if we are left to speculate...

  15. Your descriptions of life in Canada are so off the mark. Our corporate taxes are still lower than yours, though Trump is bringing yours more in line. Our universal health care is a huge savings for companies in terms of health benefits. Cross border shopping comes and goes with the currency exchange. Right now there isn’t much of it. We’re quite happy within our borders thank you. I used to go down a couple of times a year to our Florida place, but I took a pass this summer due to Trump’s mistreatment of Canada.

  16. Yeppers. I'm not judging whether it's right, and technically they are no longer violations if the regulations are removed. But it makes sense to do this if a nation wants to be competitive against countries that have very few pollution and safety regulations in place. In some cases, these self-imposed regs (many pushed through under Obama, or by liberals generally) are excessive, as though trying to make up for other country's lack of commitment. It gets to the point that domestic production has no chance of competing on the world market. Sometimes bureaucrats impose these regulations carte blanche, without any understanding. In some cases, other industries died off due to the fact that third world countries can exploit their workers and environment, without restriction. We know that's happened. Perhaps Trump wants to roll back the clock, get off the Chinese dope. This is something long called for, as a warning to guard against the exploitation. But globalization makes it impossible to resist, without some enforcement. Tariffs come to mind... But at this point, late in the game, change can only come about through a transitional period of pain and suffering. The fact that those countries could own the western economy finally becomes a matter of national security.
