https://www.theglobeandmail.com/politics/article-ottawa-renews-equalization-formula-to-remain-in-current-form-to-2024/ Not surprising, Jason Kenney, leader of the United Party of Alberta, is livid. Can't blame him seeing Quebec blocked the energy east project, inflicting economic pain in Alberta. What's amazing is that Quebec, a supposed have-not province, has had balanced budgets for the last number of years and offers a whack of social programs to its citizens. No wonder, since the have provinces are subsidizing those goodies. Did the Liberals losing the recent by-election in Quebec factor in Trudeau's decision to ensure that Quebec continue to reap those billions in equalization. Trudeau knows his name is mud in the West so he must look to Quebec for reelection in 2019. Quebec is laughing all the way to the bank. No wonder federalism is taking a hold in La Belle Province. They know they've got a good thing going.2 points

Re the media. No surprise there. Canadians are so wrapped up in the US media coverage of illegal migrants they're blind to what's going on in their own country.2 points

Nope...I never said I was "non-partisan" and clearly mocked any claims of "hypocrisy" by anybody. I am just to the right of Attila the Hun.2 points

This is the real problem...Congress does not want to deal with these issues, because it is political poison. Trump is just the latest president to walk into the mess, and so will the next president. Voters are getting tired of the games / gridlock.2 points

One has nothing to do with the other. I don't actually condone incarcerating kids and do get that he took a hard line in order to get something done about the situation. I'm pretty sure what Trump wanted was action from Congress meaning the Dems supporting actual legislation. They wouldn't do that, even to help kids because it was better optics for them to not do it, Schumer has proven he prefers using illegal-immigrant children as pawns to score political points rather than actually solve the situation. It still doesn't change the fact that previous administrations did it too but no one cried over it then. As for the play set for the kids (which has nothing to do with Trump and kids) it was over the top and only one item of many which points to Trudeau's sense of entitlement. I seem to remember people going bonkers over a $16.00 glass of OJ tho.2 points

I think political parties should be abolished. every person who claims to represent their constituancy should be doing exactly that. not what their leader tells them to vote for. When someone has a good idea it should be supported. Not oh, thats an ndp idea so you have to vote against it etc. All the persons who are elected can then vote for a leader. Everybody has a say in the budget as it affects everybody. That way no party whips exist. The right of the people to fire for cause no severence. When your term is up thats it no big fat payouts.1 point

I think that many people will turn to the legal stores because there you would know what it is, and that there are no contaminants or pesticides. The advantage of regulation is quality control.1 point

The question that I always keep asking myself is do Canadians really care about Canada at all? Personally, I don't see it nor think that the majority of Canadians give one hoot about what is going on in Canada today. We have well over 25000 illegal immigrants that have entered Canada illegally last and this year and there is no concern about it with them. But they sure do have a lot to say about the American immigration problem that is going on. As you said all they seem to be interested in what the American MSM is reporting about Trump and Trump is not even their President. Trudeau gets a free pass in this country with Canadians. It would appear as though we are all living in an it's all about me country.1 point

Quebec runs and rules the rest of Canada. The only province other than Quebec that are getting screwed in this country are the rest of the provinces in Canada. For Quebec to have a balanced budget while the rest do not only shows that the french are running Ottawa and Ottawa has always been looking out for Quebec and it's interests and concerns only. When Quebec says no to something there is no problem. When another province says no to something they get all kinds of flak from our dear leaders and the liberal MSM. I read a book many decades ago called "Bilingualism Today, French Tomorrow" and how true today as to what the writer wrote in that book that has come true. Quebec is now a french speaking province(nation)only but low and behold the rest of the country has pretty much become bilingual. The book was right on when it said that Quebec would run and rule the country one day. The majority of the employees working for the federal government in Ottawa are french. Liberal Trudeau. Pelltier and Joyal sure did pull off a coup in Ottawa just as the book said they would. Quebec is indeed running all the way to the bank of Quebec but yet the Anglophones in this country still act like all is cool no reason to become alarmed. The Anglophones don't even care or realize that they now have lost their country to the french. I guess that the french really did win the battle on the Plains of Abraham.1 point

I think the issue is overly played. What is relevant is that it took them 2 weeks to verify her re-entry into canada. Absolutely amazing. Equalization usually gets a lot of play in the media - and what have we heard? Nothing....crickets. Even the provinces seem unaware. This government gets just about everything wrong - with a good dollop of arrogance added in.1 point

One ought to refer to mullahcracy as lunacracy.... It is despicable however that some foreign western governments are happy to do business as usuall with these lunatics that are much loathed by the majority of Iranian population....1 point

No more....This resonates a kind of regime that has occupied Iran for 40 years. It uses patriotic fever and similar sentiments to achieve its goals. That is to distract the population from the internal problems and struggle and divert their hatred towards the West. For so many years they have used these scare mongering tactics so that the public anger is directed towards the West and exonerates them from their own failures. People are no longer receptive to these deceptions and where public money is invested in the building the infrastructure of Lebanon, Syria, Iraq and Yemen at the expense of Iranian people who live in poverty. In turn these bunch of lunatic mullahs live quite comfortably with their wealth scattered in various foreign accounts across the globe....1 point

Agreed. But all of this is coming at a cost to us American taxpayers. Hope the rest of the free world wakes up and see this down the road and thank us for once, though i'm not holding my breath. If you look at our recent advances in Afghanistan, even the liberal media is warming to trump's strategy (really it's mattis) . We've kicked the taliban's ass so much that they started attacking "soft target" and their own people are tired of their bull sh*t. "Residents were so incensed by the attack that many of them armed themselves and had to be restrained by police officers from going after the attackers." This article from the NY Times even admitted to this LOL. https://www.nytimes.com/2018/05/09/world/asia/afghanistan-attack-kabul.html Their only real strategy is to wear our patient thin and hope we would pull out again. Not with the new sheriff in town! Liberals asked why after 17 years why we haven't stabilize the area from attacks and Mattis said, "sir if you look at what we stand for in this world, attacks on registration places for election is not something we back down from a fight for".... MURICAH!!!!!!!! Start watching at 25:30 https://www.c-span.org/video/?445190-1/secretary-mattis-general-dunford-testify-defense-budget-request His strategy is working, they(taliban, isis, insurgents, Jimwd etc...) can't attack any of the hard targets so they have to resort to suicide attack and even then the best they can do is alienate their own countrymen against them. Many of the Marines who served under Mattis said that they would go to hell and back for him. Shows you the kind of leadership we have. # NEW WORLD ORDER!1 point

I don't care if everybody acknowledges this...it is clearly true. Is there a topic about Trudeau getting a Nobel prize ? (See what I did there ?) If the U.S. / Trump were not also brought up in unrelated topics all over this forum, perhaps I would reconsider. Oh, and please continue to discuss Trump....I realize he is very entertaining and hard to resist.1 point

Whatever. ----- There is a rumbling in Quebec, like in the rest of Canada (rest of North America? Europe?) and so-called analysts ignore it at their peril. They are wrong to dismiss these rumblings as "racist/backward/nationalistic". Walls? There's a fundamental difference between the Berlin Wall and a prison wall; one is designed to keep ordinary people in and the other is designed to keep bad people out.1 point

I think out of the many qualities that Jimwd professes to love about trump I think his favorite would be the ability to slith...listen. I think that is what makes a great leader, the ability to listen to feedback, good feedback and trump definitely has that ability.1 point

I really do think it boils down to just an element of human biology. No real need to make a big deal of it anymore. It's all genetics - and it should be taught as such - in the proportion that it deserves. To the kids: "you've seen people with red hair.....these people comprise 2% of the population. People with blue eyes? 8% of the population. There are also Gay people who are - through their genetic make-up - attracted to their own sex. Our best estimate is about 5% - or one out of 20. Whether it's red hair - or blue eyes - or being Gay - it's all part of how we are put together. Keep it simple - kids will figure it out.1 point

I think this issue is a non starter because it doesn't solve one fundamental fact. How to reconcile with those you disagree. How can you turn something that is potentially a zero sum game into a win win game. So you have to have leaders willing to do the right thing with feedback and hold them accountable. But that feedback has to be tempered. We all know too well of public hysteria and knee jerk reaction, mob rule essentially. The process for reconciliation start with your core fundamental values, to respect one another (life, liberty, pursuit of happiness etc...). Technology can solve many problems but It can't solve what is essentially a human problem. It's quite obvious to me that a lot of us who debate on this forum seem to have lost a fundamental friendliness to one another. Politicians are subject to the same problem.1 point

Iran should have gone for the win from the start. They had some excellent chances when they went one down. Spain’s big stars still look tired. Must say I was rooting for Morocco in the other Iberian match. Ronaldo excepted, Portugal are a dreary, negative team and a poor ad for soccer esp. after winning the European Championship. I hope they don’t make the last four.1 point

Iranian women in Sport stadium. Asian champion, Iran soccer team may have narrowly lost to 2010 world champion Spain in a tight match however, Iranian women appears to have fought hard and won a long standing struggle to enter sport stadiums. Believe it or not in this 21 century some backward ruling clergy in Iran have banned Iranian women from entering sports stadiums. (the daughters of those who were granted freedom and equality by progressive Pahlavi dynasty who ruled Iran for 50 golden years). https://edition.cnn.com/2018/06/20/football/iran-spain-world-cup-russia-2018-spt-intl/index.html Struggle for total equality for women in all aspects of life will continue and all rights including the right to choose what to wear, who to marry, equal heritage, right to travel without permission, right to divorce, equal division of assets after divorce and equal right to child custody, etc. are just around the corner. Struggle will continue by all Iranians until democracy is achieved in Iran. The thread title says Iran needs some democracy. But Iran nation would settle for nothing short of total democracy and equality for all which would ONLY be achieved by complete and total removal of Islamic regime.1 point

Any speech is hate speech when it starts to pose danger for others. You must prove your claims in legal manners or you must not be allowed to speak. You cant disturb others just because of you dont like somethings. Iraq was invaded based on "unlimited freedom of speech". Britain claimed unreal things and they invaded Iraq together US. After long years and millions of deaths, Britain simply said that the claims were false.0 points
