If there were two people on the street corner chanting the hate and one of them was one of those jihadi types and the other white, you'd say the jihadi guy is subject to deportation but the white guy isn't.  That doesn't sound right...  Doesn't matter what side there's too much political violence and/or hard core ideology from both the left and right, which is to be expected when the US has a president who thrives on creating that division.

I think 'I hate so and so' is free speech. I believe that chanting 'Death to so and so!' crosses the line into hate speech.

But my opinion doesn't count for anything on this matter as it's up to our politicians, or rather those who hold the power, to decide what is or isn't hate speech.

It's kind of a minefield out there. On one hand we can have large crowds(pro-palestinians) chanting 'death to -' without the slightest fear of repercussion from the justice system, and on the other, we have a school board trustee in BC fined a whopping $750 grand for speaking out against transgender ideology.

Are there different rules for different people in Canada?
